Is there really that much difference between a kitten and a calf?

Or a bull and a dog?

Science is discovering that animals are people too!

There's really not that much difference between an animal and a human.

I'm glad I don't eat flesh.

Some people think there's nothing wrong with crap like this, that having a festival like this is acceptable. Look at the cruel way these animals are treated before they are eaten. I wonder what these same people would think of a People Eating Festival? I wonder how they'd feel about their friends & family members being held down in water so they can drown & their loved ones being skinned, cooked & eaten? How about holding the people down who kill these animals & doing everything to them that they do to these animals? Let's see how fast that would get shut down.

If anyone who knows of a petition (s) on this travesty, then please post them on here, thanks. If these people can see that the world community is united against this horror, then maybe the residents will stop this lunacy!

In response to Frank's request, I was able to locate a Facebook page dedicated to this cause. The link to the page and the petitions provided on that page appear below. I apologize if they don't show up, but if you can access the FB page, you'll be able to click on the petition links:

prohíba el consumo de gatos en el festival Curruñao

Parar la tortura en contra de los gatitos en la Quebrada Peru

No al sacrificio de gatos en Cañete, Lima-Perú

This is truly horrific! Thanks for posting this, Frank! My apoogies to Desanka if they are duplicates of the petitions for which she provided links. I don't speak Spanish and had difficulty differentiating them.

For the people who don't under stand the difference between the dog/ cat eating festivals, and regular cow/ sheep consumption: the dogs and cats are usually INTENTIONALLY AND PURPOSEFULLY made to suffer before being killed. That being said, it is not fair to tell someone not to eat a cat, and then go eat a bacon cheeseburger- that is why I have been a vegetarian for over 30 years, and a 98% vegan for over a year.

I just hope the ban is indefinite; if not, then I think those petitions must continue to keep the pressure on, and make the ban permanent!

There are 124,000 land animals killed per second... each and every second of the day, each and every day. Plus quite a bit more than that number of sea animals.

There is some 20,000 chickens killed for every one dog, and there are more dogs than cats killed.

Just wanted there to be some perspective on this.

Signed and shared - Thank you for signing the petition "Alcadesa de San Luis de Cañete Perú: prohíba el consumo de gatos en el festival Curruñao "

I don't know how we stop this but things like this can not be acceptable, not because of culture or traditions.

Have signed the peititions. I cannot believe that in modern day Peru, that such a despicable practice could take place. ON one hand you have the Bolivians passing a law to respect the rights of mother Nature, and next door in Peru, you have the exact opposite.
I trust that the majority of the Peruvians would be horrified if they knew such a festival and practice existed.Ugh..

Thanks for the link Frank and others who posted them. This makes me sick and the judge banning it is good news. So tired of animals being tortured and abused in the name of "tradition". We used to burn witches at the stake, throw Christians to the lions, yet it has stopped. When it comes to animals, there is no compassion from these horrible people.

Have been through the list and found two I hadn't signed before! Very many thanks and blessings to all who helped by posting lists of petitions to sign - I wrote this on the last Care2 one
"This 'festival' is based on cruelty to animals and is regarded by 99.9999% of the world's population with revulsion and horror. Please stop it now - unless you want to get very bad publicity which will stop almost all tourism to your area. Torturing innocent animals to death is vile."

Thanks Frank. So glad there's been a sane decision on this.

The whole cat eating thing was European... obviously the inhabitants ate perfectly well (actually, they didn't rely on meat and would never have resorted to eating cats), but the European invaders decided to decimate the local population instead of trying to learn from them!!! Shame that the cats have been paying the price for that all these years...
