Quietly, globally, billions of bees are dying, threatening our crops and food. But a global ban of one group of pesticides could save bees from extinction.

It saddens me not being able to see these beautiful creatures which played among the flowers in my Garden. The many pesticides that farmers are using have wreaked havoc with the destruction of these caring creatures. Many of the habitats are being destroyed and those that tended to these honey-givers, are no longer. So the production of honey for our tables, have fallen away. If we don't take the time and stand up for these creatures, our world will be in a very sad shape.

Honey, is a very healthy food, and the loss of it, puts one more notch to self substainability, toward the mark of the beast and total dependance on the machine!
With out the ability to live off of the land, we are doomed to suckle off of mother beast instead off of Mother nature!

Save our Bees!!!!
Bees are vital to life on earth -- every year pollinating plants and crops with an estimated $40bn value, over one third of the food supply in many countries. Without immediate action to save bees we could end up with no fruit, no vegetables, no nuts, no oils and no cotton.

Recent years have seen a steep and disturbing global decline in bee populations and scientists have been scrambling for answers. Some studies claim the decline may be due to a combination of factors including disease, habitat loss and toxic chemicals. But new leading independent research has produced strong evidence blaming neonicotinoid pesticides. France, Italy, Slovenia and even Germany, where the main manufacturer Bayer is based, have banned one of these bee killers. But, Bayer continues to export its poison across the world, and the US is one of its biggest markets.

This lethal issue is now coming to a boil as major new studies have confirmed the shocking scale of this problem. It is urgent that we get the government to act, but it won’t be easy. A leaked document shows that the EPA already knew about the pesticide’s dangers, and ignored them. The document says Bayer’s "highly toxic" product is a "major risk concern to non target insects [honey bees]". already signed, Thanks:)

694,747 signatures. I signed last week, and do think I should sign again, as actually last week I signed twice cause I wasn't sure the first time it took. I will check to see if I circulated it to all my friend list, and hope everyone else will also. They need 100,000 signatures and if on Facebook and Twitter it should happen.
They do keep lists of environmental advocates these days.
The noose is tightening as the Justice Department just asked for the lists and personal information and contacts of people who are registered on WikiLeaks.
I just watched "Sir, No Sir" on Link TV www.linktv.org about the Vietnam War and was astounded with how the protest evolved, and how massive the protests were. Even the press had more published than I realized, but when you live in a small town you don't get much such news. My point is that it feels like they have more controls now. I can google my name and get a list of many petitions that I signed and it includes my comments!
They do have environmental activists as potential terrorists is the reason I bring this up.
If you can watch the LinkTV 1 1/2 hr movie I just mentioned you will learn many things that I never read, like some units in Vietnam were killing their commanding officers because they were being ordered to go on suicide missions, etc.

Guess I need to learn to stay on topic. I am glad I did not discourage anyone from signing and writing. We all need to do our part at home about saving the bees. DO NOT BUY ANY Pesticides or hebicides for you own yard. You may think that a small area will not hurt but it does. It is all cumulative and we can pull weeds by hand, or let them grown, and we can spray our roses with a fine mist ofdish soap and water to rid aphids, and not spray when the roses will be cold at night as that causes mildew which we do not need to treat either. Generally does not kill the plants. Please pass up this junk that they sell at all the stores, all the stores anymore. Just walk into a Home Depot and inhale around the pesticide department, it is obnoxious and it is killing our insects. Feed the birds and let them kill the insects. Really a small yard treated with this junk will kill bees and even birds. We must all do our part. Tell your friends and family not to use this junk either. So what if your grass is not weed free. Pulling weeds after watering is effective. I have done it for years.

Good post Judith
We have 4 acres at thye end of a road, so it is not law that we mow it, we will mow a path around it for we can get to the wild strawberries in the spring, black berries in the summer, grapes, persimmons, garlic, golden seal...we can eat from our yard all season long! The wild flowers are beautiful, and change with the season, and the bird seed grows freely, and we have a variety of birds year around! Sice we live in a meadow in a valley, we don;t even want the polution from a lawn mower clogging our fresh air!
Nature is beautiful, yet people spend a fortune on avoiding it!

Thank you. Keep reminding us how critical this issue is and I'll keep writing that for the last few years I had to pollinate our tomatoes myself using a paintbrush! There is the proof of the problem in one sentence!

I use natural pest control methods and I plant flowers that are attractive to bees and other insects in the hope that the few around will know my flowerbed is a pesticide free, organic area and come and help me grow healthy food!

We have a dwindling bee population here in Bermuda too. I wonder if it also has to do with this pesticide. I'm going to call around to gardening places and see if it's sold here!

No flippin agency is going to 'take care' of this unless WE move our own butts!!!!! EVERYthing on this planet is critical for the survival of ALL, including US! I am highly allergic to bee sting but yes, I can't even hang up my washing early morning because of all the bees around - life is BEAUTIFUL! And do we have weeds in our garden? OF COURSE, we are inundated - but I LOVE it, I have thousands of 'friends' greeting me each and every day! But yes, we keep the front 'clinical green lawn and border flowers' for other people's eyes so they don't complain too much - little do they know that when the water sprays the lawn and flowers every morning, that's when the little birdies come out to play and shower - AND talk to us!

Better late than never I guess. Honeybees have been disappearing for years. The last 2 years I have planted Texas Rose rose in the little area that I have to plant anything to attract bees. It works and every little bit helps. Bees are just trying to get something to eat. Honeybees are not at all aggressive. If you get stung by a honeybee, it is not the fault of the bee.

I talked to a guy at the local honey farm about the honey bee problem, and he streight up told me that the numbers have been fudged because the hives in question are placed by fields of GMO crops, and the bees are not interested in pollinatingthis abomanation of a crop and just move the hive elsewhere!
There is no bee shortage, just another agency trying to get our money and power!
Thank god!

Signed and gladly forwarded Betsy. The Chemical producers must be held morally responsible for the products they make available, and take every conceivable step to insure that those products are environmentally safe. Making Profits is fine, so long as the products leave us a world in which to enjoy them. Right now, that's not the case. The Profits are growing, but the World is shrinking because of it, and that MUST change or we all, rich and poor alike, suffer the consequences, which isn't a pretty picture.

Yes, I signed. I wasn't aware of this problem. I thought the major problem was with killer bees coming up from South America to the States. I haven't heard anything more on that threat for a while now. Anyone know about that situation?

I'm no great fan of bees, but we need them as pollinators. Idiotic to use pesticides that kill off those needed for the crops to prosper.
