ABBEVILLE, S.C. -- An Abbeville man pleaded guilty Tuesday to impregnating a girl when she was 9 years old.

In January 2006, William Edward Ronca, who was 26 at the time, pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Ronca was arrested after the girl was found to be seven to eight months pregnant. A school guidance counselor told the girl's mother that the child was acting withdrawn and was not participating at school. The girl was taken to Abbeville County Memorial Hospital, where the pregnancy was confirmed.

Arrest warrants said that Ronca had been having sex with the girl for more than a year, and told her not to tell anyone.

At the time of the arrest, the mother told a newspaper that she did not know her daughter was pregnant.

In emotional testimony, the girl's biological father said instead of enjoying her childhood, his 10-year-old daughter had to undergo a Caesarean section delivery.

He said his daughter will never be a child again -- that every time she undresses and sees the stretch marks and scars from the surgery, she is reminded about what happened. The father cried as he said how difficult it was for him to watch his daughter giving birth and having a C-section at such a young age.

Both of the child's grandmothers spoke. One of them called the girl her "little angel." She asked the judge for justice in the case.

The girl has since given birth. Her biological parents decided to put the child up for adoption.

Ronca's family, mother, cousin and uncle were in the courtroom for the proceedings and spoke on his behalf. His mother told the court that she did not condone what he did but she will love him and support him.

She said he's had a hard life and she still loves him. She also told the court that she, too, suffered sexual abuse at a young age. The cousin, a 14-year-old girl, told the court that Ronca used to baby sit her and that he never did anything wrong to her.

Ronca then read a letter out loud in the courtroom that he wrote to the judge while incarcerated. In it, he admitted his guilt and expressed condolences to the family and the victim and asked for forgiveness from God and leniency from the court.

He also admitted that the sexual relations with the child had been going on once or twice a week for about two years.

Judge Gary Hill sentenced Ronca to 25 years in prison. He had faced a maximum sentence of 30 years. Hill gave him a lesser sentence for time served and because he apologized to the family and admitted his guilt, but he required him to complete at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

Hill also required Ronca to see a mental health specialist as part of his sentence.

In this case.....grrrrrr....he should have gotten the max and been castrated.
Sorry folks, but their is NO excuse for this whatsoever!
No one made him do this.So he had a hard life.Hav'nt alot of us in one way or another?
The "hard life" story is used by murderer's,rapists, school shooters, molesters.
Whether one has had a hard life or has choices in life.Tell me a 26 year does not know the difference from right and wrong and cannot excersise his right to choose which path to take.

He thinks he had a hard life?
He should of thought about the life this little girl is going to have......grrrrrrr.

Sometimes pregnancy doesn't seem so evident. I think making her deliver the baby was the right thing to do considering the advanced stage of pregnancy, not having the baby might have been as traumathic or more.

Take a look at this:

I understand what ur saying Iron Queen, but this man abused her for 2 yrs!! No one knew?? Don't her parents notice a difference when all this started or even when she got pregnant?? I'm sure her attitude changed when all this started and no one took notice!! There are many signs to pregnancy.. I'm sure u know what they are.. Parents don't think to take her to the DR??? Or emergency room if they don't have a dr.. This just pains me, even ur new about a 5 yr old! I'm sorry it just BEYOND sick!! I have 2 children..3 if u count my Husband..LOL.. I know their moods/attitudes as soon as they open their eyes in the am! Child abuse/molesting is a HORRIBLE add Pregnancy & delivering & giving AWAY the baby to all that!!! I don't think 21-25 yrs for this man is enough!!!

Well I think the parents should be held accountable too. I mean how did this man get her alone or maybe I am the only one who does not let anyone keep my daughter.

Why are our little girls becoming physically able to become pregnant in the first place?. There are so many reaching Puberty so soon, because of the hormones from the meat. Parents must be vigilant, more than ever, and though I can understand they might not have caught some sign that their little one was in trouble, they should have been aware that her personality was different. It had to have been, and if attention was paid she would have had developing breasts. That alone should have rung some warning bells. In 1966, my next door neighbor's 8 almost 9 yr old had started her period. That mom was freaking out, but that is about the time hormones started getting into our food chain. The vitamins also help to develop ahead of schedule. Some of the older boys at school found out and they were dogs after a bitch in heat, it was just sickening, and all the boys parents just laughed and "boys will be boys" Parents teach your children well, not tomorrow! Yesterday! Both boys and girls! Sex education is a necessity, now more than ever, and those people who say they will do the teaching are failing. So it must start when they are young.

My God what is this world coming to ,a baby having a baby. My heart goes out to the child and her parents. And as far as the guy well, he should rot in hell for doing that to her and the baby that was conceived. Sex is to open today and to much on tv . That little girl should be playing with dolls and thinking about what she will do when she grows up.

He should get life in jail because he basically took the girls life away. She will never be the same again! And the fact that he got five years taken off for admitting to the crime is also insane considering he was having sex with her for over a year.

Predator= 26 years old, sentence= 25 years, he is highly unlikely to actually serve out the entire sentence, so he will be released back into society to prey on more children. Does that seem WRONG to anyone else?
We MUST DEMAND stronger laws to protect our children.

JUSTICE????? It hardly seems right to get only 25 years considering she will have to live with this for much longer. WHAT A Degenerate PIG (not to insult pigs), he sounds SO sincere --his croc tears worked this time, I am confident he will be back out destroying innocent lives again, it is sad he doesn't realize how sick he really is.

"Her father said the pregnancy and Caesarean section means the victim can never enjoy her childhood again because every time she dresses she can see the stretch marks and surgical scars."
If this is the only thing that bothers her father, I'm even more sorry for the girl. What about the emotional scars from being sexually abused for over a year? For her whole life, relationships with men are going to be polluted by this experience.

Oh, so sorry I raped you, made you loose your childhood, F*ed up your life....yeah, that's makes it all better. Makes me want to puke! Someone needs to kick that stupid judge in HIS ASS TOO!
NOTICE here it says the MAXIMUM SENTENCE the judge could have given him under the law is still only 30 years. PROOF that the laws need to be change. This offence SHOULD, but does not qualify the offender for a life sentence. Which if true justice was to be served, is what all sex offenders, child molestors and hate crime offenders would be sentenced to, LIFE without parole. (I take acception to cases of 'statutory rape', as in consentual relations with two partners of similar 18 yr old and their 17 yr old partner, for instance.)

That's what I keep asking?? Where were her parents??? Why didn't they FIGHT for a stiffer sentence??? The Judge must be an offender ya think?? Why would he be so soft on this guy?? He only has to serve 85%??? WTF!!! NO ONE is thinking of this little girl!! Well said Melinda !! That's how I feel ! I keep thinking of her, which is why I keep getting angry! LOL .. No amount of therapy is gonna get her thru this completely.. and you don't even see a mention of how they are going to HELP this little girl!!! Pathetic!!! All of them!!! *Sigh** I'm ranting again ..LOL...
