I recently watched Earthlings and cried the whole way through. There has to be something I can do to reduce all of the suffering of the animals we use as food, I thought. And then I read THE CHINA STUDY and was shocked to learn how unhealthy the Standard

wow, how offensive. i've done countless hours of charity work and i just adopted a elderly, blind, diabetic dog that not one single, god-fearing capitalist would help. vegans aren't any more immoral, socialistic, or extreme than anyone else. veganism is just the end stage (for those who can do it) of a deep concern for animals.

Hi Catherine,
I am the writer of the above post, and it is satire. I am a vegan, and I was spoofing Mark Bittman's Vegan Before 6, in case you didn't see that at the end of the post.

I adopted a diabetic greyhound who went blind (and we replaced her lenses) and now, unfortunately, she is half-blind again (at least!). Her name is Violet Rays and she eats vegan food as does her "brother" greyhound, Charles. If I may, I must disagree that veganism is an end stage. I think it's a beginning. But that's me.

Satire is a powerful way to make a statement; it makes you realize how absurd something is. I'll take your criticism as a compliment, but please realize there was a final paragraph that explained the joke.

i just wrote a quick explanation of my reaction at the site. his writing required your folllow-up, which speaks to his skills. and veganism is the end stage in terms of personal use of animals. i would agree that sharing your thoughts and experiences in order to help animals is on-going.

I've heard that animals like dogs cannot eat a vegetable diet, esp. a vegan one. I wiouldn't try to compromise an animal's health like that. Make sure to check with a vet before you try nonsensical diets on poor dogs.
