There is a truck stop in a small town called Grosse Tete, on I-10 near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which uses a live tiger as a gimmick to try and get passing motorists to stop. The tiger is living in very bad conditions and animal welfare groups want it to

A few days ago Tony's cage was emptied out of everything except him. A reporter from the Advocate out of Lafayette called sandlin about it. He said nothing was going on. A day or two later, the whole area was roped off and people were looking around, as if inspecting it. Apparently it was the Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries. A call to Maria Davidson by Sky got the response of basically ' I don't know anything about it. It's not us'. Was it the USDA, or who?

Now for part two. Big Cat Rescue found a web article today, from July 20, posted by some local paper called the Plaquemine Post South. It said the USDA was there last month, and gave sandlin a new license. Also it says the parish council is ready to give him his permit as soon as he gets his state permit. Apparently, everyone has been avoided and lied to all along by the parish council members, and the USDA and state WLF has cooperated in this secrecy.

If the USDA had already been there a month before July 20, and the council had already okayed it as of July 20, then who was there doing an inspection a couple days ago? It HAD TO BE the state WLF people. So Davidson lied.

Now, she could okay sandlin's state permit any day; maybe has already. In case she hasn't yet, I hope you will all join me in reminding her that being a hypocrite is not good for her future as a public official. I say hypocrite because just recently, on July 6 of this year, Davidson and her agency went to Yogi and Friends private zoo in Shreveport and wrote them up on some stuff:
" ...a ring of concrete be added at ground level around the perimeter to ensure the big cats' fenced enclosures are secured to the ground." (no concrete embedded fence at tiger truckstop)
" ...extend the fencing up to 16 feet to replace the current setup that includes 12-feet vertical and 4-feet overhang" (fence at tigertruckstop is 8 feet high with no overhang)
Not to mention the state law about this subject, Title 69, which says among other things that the perimeter fence must be at least 5 feet from the cage. It is not.

So what excuse is there to pass this place and issue a state permit? Favoritism, corruption...payoffs maybe? If she does, it can easily be compared to the Yogi place and favoritism will be glaring for all to see.

So please, remind her of Yogi and ask her to be fair and unbiased in her decisions.

here is the Yogi story:

here is the new story about the parish permit:

LA State WIldlife & FIsheries Dept.
Please write to Maria Davidson and ask her to not issue a permit to this truck stop. It is the last hope for this languishing tiger.

TIP: concentrate on legal more than moral arguments

Remember- time is of the essence, so please email her right now, and include the Yogi link. Ask her to be as strict with sandlin as she was with them. It is Tony's last hope of a good life at a sanctuary.
