This is a complete laugh at the justice system. When on Earth are these disgraceful, disgusting examples of people ..and I say people because I cant use the swear word I want to..get the punishments they deserve !! Makes my blood boil..Scum thats what they are Scum.

EDGEMERE, Md. -- Baltimore County police said three men have been charged in a case where a cat was repeatedly tortured before it was killed.

A man who called police last Sunday said he'd just returned home from a vacation and that while he was gone he got a call from 18-year-old Scott McDowell, who had told him his cat was dead.

"(McDowell) was invited by a friend, Kevin Abel, over to a house to play cards. Abel was house-sitting for someone in the neighborhood. McDowell got there and found Abel in the house, as well as another man, Rioux. Rioux was abusing -- torturing -- this cat," said Baltimore County police spokesman Bill Toohey.

According to court documents, McDowell told police that Richard Rioux, 25, of White Marsh, tortured the cat in several ways, including putting it in a dryer and microwave and tying it by its tail to a ceiling fan before turning it on.

The cat eventually was put into a plastic bag with rocks and dumped into Lynch Point, documents showed.

"This is something I've never seen before," Toohey said.

McDowell was unavailable for comment on Friday.

Court documents showed that when McDowell was asked why he didn't help, he said he didn't stop the abuse of the cat because, "Mr. Rioux had a box cutter in hand. He state that he, Mr. Rioux and Mr. Abel were all intoxicated."

All three men have been charged with at least two counts of animal cruelty and petty theft. McDowell was also charged with possession of marijuana.

All three men could get 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

McDowell and Abel were released from custody. Rioux is being held on $50,000 bond.

90 days and a thousand dollar fine?! That is ridiculous!!! What I wouldn't do to be able to put these scums through just a little of the pain and horror this poor kitten felt before he died! OMG!!!! Time for these judges to WAKE UP and do the right thing for these evil monsters that do such horrific things to these poor animals! I am so angry!!!

-MY COMMENTS:As someone who worked in animal rights since I was a child I HAVE never seen anything like what was done to this cat and have long believed that the lax and deficient laws are useless to discourage these assaults on animals. If this were your cat would you expect that 90 days are enough?
