Animals  (tags: veal calves, brutually abused, mistreated, killed, slaughtered, laws, protection, legalisation )

Veal calves are brutally treated their whole lives, long before they reach a slaughter house like Bushway. Veal calves are those male calves that are unwanted and removed from their mothers immediately after birth; they are confined often by tethers

You can help stop at least this cruelty. These animals should be humanely euthanized. Call on the Secretary of the USDA, Tom Vilsack (1) to amend the regulations to ban slaughter of downed veal calves, (2) enforce the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act which requires no animal should be slaughtered while conscious. The Humane Society of the United States is also calling for an overhaul of the USDA inspection program. No inspector should stand by and allow such cruelty. HSUS is calling as well for a ban on transport of veal calves that are less than 10 days old.

I looked everywhere for an email address for Tom Vilsack, but could not find one on the USDA website. However, they have a 'contact us' form you can use. For subject matter, write: FAO Mr Tom Vilsack, Agricultural Secretary'. *******************************************You can find the link at http://www.usda.gov/wps/portal/!ut/p/_s.7_0_A/7_0_1OB?edeployment_action=changenav&navid=ASK_EXPERT

protect downed calves from cruelty? why are we trying to protect them from cruel methods of slaughter?

WE SHOULD BE FIGHTING FOR THEM NOT TO BE USED FOR FOOD PERIOD. WHY ARE WE CONTINUEING TO CONDONE THE USE OF ANIMALS FOR FOOD? WHY ARE POEPLE CONSTANTLY TRYING TO MAKE THE LIVES OF INNOCENT ANIMALS MORE HUMANE YET CONTINUE TO EAT THEM?

START FIGHTING FOR ANIMALS TO BE BANNED FOR FOOD TOTALY. NOT JUST THIER LIVES TO BE MORE BEARABLE UNTIL THEY DIE.

A USDA inspector is said to have stood by and allowed the owner of the plant and its employees mercilessly drag, shove, beat, kick, and use electric prods, sometimes with water to make it worse, on calves that could not stand on their own.

Now why does that not surprise me?
