California has been up to their elbows in Chihuahuas! All over California, Chihuahuas have been abandoned at shelters at an alarming rate. In the last 12 months, animal shelters in the city of Los Angeles have taken in 4,700 Chihuahuas, 1,000

They are cute and then everybody buys a pair to breed and make money, but no one cares about these doggies at all. Because Paris Hilton and Britney have Chihuahua's, then they all want the same. If you love dogs/animals, you will enjoy having a "pavement special" too.

Think "child stars" when you think of these dogs: they're in vogue right now, everybody wants them, but in a few short years, they'll be out on the streets, to fend for themselves, which is a shame.

This is the end of a fashion where people no longer want a chihuahua in their Prada bag. Unfortunately, they have been replaced by Pygmy African hedgehogs (which are very cute) but are even less qualified to sit in a handbag. They come in several browny colours and just need some cat food!

I just adopted one at the shelter a couple months ago. She is the sweetest dog. They found her on the street, skinny full of fleas and a skin condition. Now she looks great. She's about 4 yrs. I have been noticing the last few months more chihuahuas in our local shelter. It's great to see rescues working together. Thanks for post.

Also, I don't watch tv too often but I think Katherine Heigl has a really big heart funding the 1st chihuahua rescue.

This is so very sad, through 62 years I've had Chihuahuas as pets and they're the best little friends you can have, they can also alert you to anything going on any where ---- hope they all found GREAT homes! Thanks for posting for us!
