BLM is actually accelerating the pace of wild horse removals, with 12,000 horses targeted for capture from our public lands in Fiscal Year 2010 alone. The majority of these horses will be sent to government holding facilities, where they will join the

2010: The Year to end Horse Slaughter
Dear Deborah,
Actors Kelly Carlson and Wendie Malick, both horse lovers and supporters of The HSUS, are joining me, members of Congress, and other advocates at a press conference today on Capitol Hill to support the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 503/S. 727). In 2009, more than 90,000 American horses were exported for slaughter -- mostly to Mexico.

Congress holds the fate of our American horses in its hands. Call your U.S. Representative ( Shelley Berkley (202) 225-5965 ) and urge support for this bill. You can say: "Please co-sponsor and push for the passage of H.R. 503/S. 727, The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act." After you make your call, send a follow up message. Thanks for all you do for animals.

Emails sent - again. I have yet to receive a reply from anyone! It is so frustrating that our own government is ignoring our crys and doing this to "our" horses.

Death count up to 26 in Nevada wild horse roundup

Updated: Jan 29, 2010 4:20 PM PST

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Wild-horse advocates have criticized federal land managers after the deaths of 26 mustangs so far in a government roundup on the range north of Reno - up from nine deaths a week ago.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management today reported four more deaths stemming from its roundup in the Calico Mountain Complex.

Agency spokeswoman JoLynn Worley says three horses have died at the roundup site and 23 have died at a Fallon holding facility where the horses have been taken since the two-month roundup began Dec. 28.

Activists say the BLM's roundup methods are "brutal" and violate the intent of a 1971 law Congress enacted to protect the horses.

Worley says the agency has 40 years of experience of conducting roundups and has learned the safest way to conduct them.
