A United Nations committee has ruled that the Japanese Government repeatedly breached human rights guarantees in pursuit of two Greenpeace whistleblowers who exposed an illegal trade in whale meat. The finding is seen as an embarrassment for Japan before

If the law does not come down hard on the Japanese, there will be no peace from them, they will continue to steal what they want and there biggest commercal industry is "FISH!"

And they are taking it anywhere they can....

I hope every country is aware and takes the necessary steps to stop it abuse!

Japan is an embarrassment to itself.

Absolutely right Pat Prest! Most countries seem to be just sitting by while the whalers illegally decimate the life in the oceans they aren't supposed to be fishing/ whaling in at all. Now hopefully the whalers that rammed the Ady Gil and tried to wash the crew into the freezing water with firehoses will be dealt with.

I think "saving face" went away when they discovered that stuffing their pockets with Yen made them feel better! A people that I once had great respect for has joined the other sadistic and disgusting greedy people from other countries. I would think their ancesters are freaking out!

The Japanese are an embarassment on the world stage when it comes to their whaling endeavours.

I spent time in Asia and believe me, they do not think about animals the way Western society does. They think nothing of eating rats, dogs and cats. In the Philippines, they have wonderful open markets that sell cats and dogs to your liking. These poor animals are caged and treated very poorly, even before they become a meal. In South Korea, they take their family dog on a picnic and then proceed to hang it. They believe that the more the animals suffers and struggles not to die, it becomes more tastier and tender. In China, they use parts of animals for cures and aphrodisiacs (bear gall bladder, ground elephant tusks, etc.). In India, everyone celebrates when the rat catcher come to a village or town. That means everyone will be chowing down on as many rats the guy can catch. It is a cultural thing. They believe Westerners are nuts the way we pamper our pets.

However, if the Japanese are breaking the law and committing attempted murder, they should be dealt with as harshly as the law allows. There needs to be examples made here so this does not continue.

Noted! Wow - just commented re: the need for an official complaint to the UN & World Court re: the Yuskin Maru's ramming of the "Bob Barker" Sea Sheperd watch vessel. Now here we see that our public pressure has actually generated a pro-Greenpeace decision from the UN. Readers: This shows the IMPACT THAT WE ARE HAVING! Time to jack up the pressure and demand SANCTIONS for the fishing industry moguls within Japan's ruling class. RIGHT ON GREENPEACE!

This was good to read about - but what happens now? What sanctions can the U.N. deliver to the Japanese for their actions? And what is happening in regard to the ramming of Greenpeace ships?

Really if this is a beginning for Japan to change it's policy of fishing....i have big doughts!the young generation in japan has to educate their own people for a change ,this will take time and many more battles with seasheperds and greenpeace and many more people defending wildlife.

Asians do have odd views on animals, they don't abide by Western standards and seem to think by eating these animals they gain mystical powers. That is why so many species are endangered now because of their odd beliefs. I hope young people in Japan throw out these arcaic views of the elders, educate the young Japanese, etc. to respect animals and learn that there is no aphrodesiac in tiger's parts, etc.

I with the Japanese were more than embarrassed... I wish they'd STOP! This after just reading about the crash into the Sea Shepards Bob Barker because it stood in the way of the Nishan Maru on it's dastardly course. It is ILLEGAL for these people to be doing this but no one seems able to stop them. Do not buy Japanese cars, japanese electronics, anything made by these whale killing monsters. All they care about is money and whale fat. They must be stopped but as long as the world is beholden to their trinkets and cars, they rule. Think about this before spending your money. You can change the world with your wallet, remember that.,
