The comments "scary" and "sickening" and "I want to cry" - makes me wonder who these people are?
The people who killed this elephant need to be publically put to death. They care NOTHING for animals - wild or not. For this not to be taken up with the Government there shows that this sort of reporting means nothing.
Comments like this mean NOTHING - get hold of the authorities - get EVERYONE involved. Don't let it be forgotten by next week.

I agree with you Jill. We all need to keep this going and alert this government that the entire world is against this cruel treatment of a baby elephant. This is just like the canning of the lions!!!!! No more killing of animals that should be protected.

That this happened just one day after India declared elephants an official heritage animal says a great deal. The people of the village are retaliating against elephants by poisoning them and beating them to death and seem to be flaunting the new heritage designation. The poor baby elephant was found injured and people with compassion would have the decency to help him especially since he had lost his herd. Maybe they decided he was even more defenceless. Whatever really happened the fact that someone was making a video of it, that the police and ranger standing by did nothing to help the elephant, and that it has received such international attention shows that people will not stand by to witness acts of terror and brutality on innocent animals without demanding some kind of intervention be done. The only bright side to this story is that this elephant did not have to suffer from long years of misery being captive in a circus beaten with sticks and bullhooks and that his agony was relatively short-lived (one report said an hour...which does seem excessive but not as long as a lifetime). Only people inflict this kind of cruelty and pain on animals that they kill.

This is so Sick...if people would stop taking things from the Aniamls then they would not have to be like this. We can live together it is soooo Possible. I know this, and these people should be whipped to see how they like it!

I could not watch, I am still crying over just the news. What can we do, nothing, I wish we could teach these monsters not to do this kind of thing, on pain of death. It was a baby for GOD's sake...

If you want to really make an impact, do these three things:
1. Sign the petition and let as many friends know as soon as possible that they need to create a account and sign the petition regarding the tragic barbarism that ended this baby's life.
2. Write a letter to the Governor of Assam India ASAP expressing your outrage at this incident and a demand for the prosecution of the villagers and police officers that allowed this crime to take place. His address is:
Governor Assam, India
Shri Janaki Ballav Patnaik
The Chancellor
Gauhati University
Gopinath Bordoloi Nagar
Guwahati 781014
Assam, India
FAX: 91-361-2700311 (GU)
3. Contact and make a donation to the WSPA, Fund For Animals, PETA, Animals Asia, and PAWS, all of which are at the forefront of protecting animals world wide.
