Álvaro Múnera was once "El Pilarico" the star bullfighter. Then in 1984, he was gored by a bull which left him confined to a wheelchair. Today he's a staunch animal rights defender and works to have bullfighting banned.

I am glad that Munera had a change of heart and is now an animal advocate.

This is unique story. I new more people who were punished for their animal cruelty. I believe this guy is changed and now he is the real fighter against animal cruelty..

Alvaro Munera is now an animal activist very, very involved. Hes worked in animal rights bills, trying to pass his message with a loud voice.
He is the proof that everyone can change for good. His ex- bullfighting followers say they are ashamed of him, but he now has many more good friends in the animal rights movement in Colombia.
Thanks Simone for sharing the story!

So, he made that change, thumb-up for him!

It is so sad it took Alvaro's injuries to bring him to this decision.
I hope with all my heart that Spain stops bullfighting.

Giving good example. Too bad he is in a wheelchair. To ban this is going to take a long time. But, we won't stop.

Not very often this kind of thing happens. This man, this matador, was badly injured by one of the bulls he was tormenting, which left him paralyzed, and as a result he reviewed his previous life and beliefs. Actually, this is rather like fiction, a story in a novel. Quite marvellous, really.

He felt the pain, but how many bulls had he caused pain before he stopped.

Too bad he didn't "awaken" before, Why does it always take a tradegy with humans?

I read about this guy several months ago in a newsletter from WSPA. Apparently, he never gave a thought to torturing bulls until he sought treatment for his injuries and witnessed the reactions of people who asked him how he was injured. Torture is not entertainment

Nothing like a good bull goring to change your mind about the torture you've inflicted on animals.

After all the pian he caused bulls, it is so good to know he now defends them. That's a great story Simone, thanks.

He is in a wheelchair - he can use his VOICE to stand up against the SUFFERING of the BULLS.

It is a shame that this is what had to happen to Munera before he had a change of heart. Bullfighting should have been banned long ago.

He had to suffer before he realized the folly of his actions. I hope more Bullfighters will wake up against the cruelty they commit.

So glad he has turned his life around. He is more whole now than when he could walk. Pity the rest don't get gored and have a change of heart.

I am glad he is now an advocate for the bulls- maybe he can get other macho men to stop torturing animals as well.
