A rare Amur (Siberian) tiger was killed this week by poachers near Vladivostok, in the Russian Far East. The tiger was discovered by an IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) anti-poaching patrol in the Khasan district of Primorye Province.

Ahh we need to get to the core of the problem. The idiots that see value in animal parts. So sad to hear of this unnecessary tragedy. Thanks for sharing this.

Noted Simone. I for one am eagerly awaiting the outciome from this tiger summit and hoping that this is the beginning of a new era for all tigers(ever the optimist), I hope that this summit can bring something new to the table and that the participating countries can ALL implement a rescue plan that is best for the tigers and tough on the poachers.

Buddhism affirms the unity of all living beings, all equally posses the Buddha-nature, and all have the potential to become Buddhas, that is, to become fully and perfectly enlightened. Among the sentient, there are no second-class citizens. According to Buddhist teaching, human beings do not have a privileged, special place above and beyond that of the rest of life. The world is not a creation specifically for the benefit and pleasure of human beings. Furthermore, in some circumstances according with their karma, humans can be reborn as humans and animals can be reborn as humans.

In Buddhism the most fundamental guideline for conduct is ahimsa-the prohibition against the bringing of harm and/or death to any living being.

There would be less poachers if people were better informed about what they buy because the skins, bones, skulls and penises of these magnificent animals are used for traditional Chinese medicines, decorations and good luck charms. Dokters need to tell that these old medicines can be replaced with modern medicine that are far more efficient and do not contain parts of endangered animals ! Tiger products should be banned in the first place !

WE MUST NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!!! LET'S SPEAK FOR THEM!!!!!!!!!! LET'S ROAR TOGETHER WITH THEM!!!!!!!
SO THAT THEIR ROARS CAN BE HEARD BY OUR CHILDREN and GRANDCHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET'S DO WHATEVER WE CAN TO SAVE WILDLIFE: FOR THE ANIMALS THEMSELVES, FOR OUR PLANET, and FOR OUR CHILDREN and GRANDCHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The REAL problem for WILDLIFE is THAT on this Earth. THERE ARE MEN .........
Therefore MONEY MONEY MONEY & GREED as PRIMARY CONCERNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I saw just 3 days ago a Documentary (a NAT GEO WILD or National Geographic one) stating that CHINA IS THE BIGGEST MARKET in the WORLD FOR BIG CATS PARTS TRADE: for FURS and BONES!!!!!!!! TERRIBLE: THEY USE TIGER BONES ALSO FOR PRODUCING WINE!!!!!!!!!! DIFFERENT PRICES ACCORDING HOW OLD THOSE WINES ARE, PRESENTED IN A TIGER-SHAPED BOTTLE!!!!!!! BONES WERE TAKEN IN BARRELS, COMPLETE WITH THE ANIMALS' SKULLS.
I ALREADY KNEW THAT CHINESE USE TIGER BONES FOR.....PRODUCING THEIR TRADITIONAL MEDICINES, LIKE THE TIGER BALM (in CHINA and SINGAPORE YOU COULD FIND IT SOLD EVERYWHERE) BUT I DIDN'T KNOW OF TIGER BONE PRODUCED WINE..........!!!!!!!! ENTIRE SNOW LEOPARD FURS BEING SOLD FOR 3000 US $!! THERE IS A TOWN IN CHINA CALLED THE "FUR CITY" BECAUSE IT'S ITS PRINCIPAL ACTIVITY: ENTIRE LEOPARDS, SNOW LEOPARD, TIGERS, and other SERIOUSLY ENDANGERED ANIMALS FURS HANGING FROM THE SHELVES OF SHOPS ALL AROUND!!!!!!!!! OR SOLD IN PIECES for the TAYLOR INDUSTRY! IN TIBET BIG CAT FURS ARE STILL USED FOR ADORNING THEIR TRADITIONAL FEASTS COSTUMES, LESS IN THE BIG TOWNS BUT MUCH MORE IN THE ISOLATED PARTS OF TIBET. THIS IS WHY IT IS FORBIDDEN and because of the POSITIVE ACTION BY THE DALAI LAMA: WHO ASKED TIBETANS NOT TO WEAR SUCH BIG CAT FURS EMBELLISHED COSTUMES DURING TRADITIONAL FEASTS.........

How can you educate a whole culture of the irrationality of using the tiger's body part for silly things like good luck charms or supposed medicinals? This, I think is the challenge....reeducating the Asian populace.

noted and everyone needs to stop this....that means that when the public buys anything that supports the killing of endangered species, we are also responsible for killing those animals....we need to work together...

They are magnificent creatures, they exude majesty, so beautiful, so overwhelmingly beautiful!!!. If nations are getting together to discus this issue, that may well mean, that some how they are listening to the people asking for the tiger's conservation. Let hope and pray for them to put compassion at work, and the criminals away.
