This won't be the first time a governmental agency had culled the population of one animal to stem the diminution of another. The Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia have each killed multiple wolf packs to save mountain caribou. Sea lions,

Dear Friends of the Animals:
I encourage all of us to get involved with the law-making process. Our petitions are valuable & useful, but the muscle of all proposals resides in the law. Please sign the petition to stop this inhumane and barbaric practice that causes suffering and allows the perpetrators to avoid hands-on responsibility and questions of conscience. After signing the petition research your State as to what that policy & practice is; and if you don't like what your State is doing, TAKE ACTION! CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE! TAKE ACTION!
Thanking you,
AnimalActionUSA

Oh Canada, how can you be so cruel to so many animals.

Only man seems to think he can "fix" the problem by killing one thing to save another. Sadly, man has created as many problems as he has solved over the long term. Leave the old growth forest alone (what's left of it), and stop killing any animal or bird that doesn't fit in with man's idea of God's creation.

Humans, keep out of this; nature will do the deciding. All you do is stick your love-to-kill nose in where it doesn't belong.

I believe that the human race interferes too much in the behaviour and wellbeing of wildlife in general, and finishes up doing more harm to it than anything approaching a reliable and sustainable outcome which should be the reason for this approach.
The continual destruction of the natural habitat, Worldwide, in order to accomodate an ever increasing human population would preclude any benefits which this cull is supposed to bring to another species, an increase which is, in itself unwarranted and unsustainable in a rather suspect rational and intelligent species such as ours.

This is a hard issue to really come to a decision as to whether this is really as barbric as it sounds, or if there really is NO other way of making sure that the little owls will not be totally wiped out.Nature can be very cruel even when there is plenty of habitat and everything is in balance, but now, that some many natural habitats have been destroyed, there are going to be more and more decisions like this one, or we will lose many more species. Obviously these agressive owls could wipe out the others very quickly, by the sound of it. Sometimes, like it or not, culling is necessary to preserve a whole species. I am against killing of any animals, but there are times when your head has to rule your heart. In this instance, I just hope that another way of solving this problem can be found.Man has messed nature up and so it is not always possible to employ natural ways to bablance it again!

How stupid.
If people keep their destructivness and greed away from nature it will regulate itself! This way another imbalance is created - or it this called: job creation?

Shirley H obviously didn't read the story before passing her self righteous judgement!! This murder spree is planned for Washington, Oregon and California!! I do believe that's in the U.S. last time I checked!! I wouldn't pass judgements on other countries unless yours is kill free. I doubt Shirley's is. We have Barred Owls in our yard here in BC. The only time they dive bomb you is if you have a pony tail in your hair. The owls think it's a squirrel tail. I wonder if that's what happened to the lady in the story? Thanks Simone!

Just not right. We need to figure out a way to co-exist.
