To pinpoint the exact population of wild Bengal tigers and to combat poaching, Nepal will start "fingerprinting" its big cats from this fall, marking a switchover to hi-tech DNA profiling from the current tiger censuses conducted the old-fashioned way

I want to know what "fingerprinting" tigers means.

Can't you just let them the H! alone?

THATS SO WHEN THERE ARE NO MORE, WE WILL HAVE THEIR PRINTS TO PROVE THEY WERE HERE ON THE EARTH AT 1 TIME.. LEAVE THESE AIMALS ALONE, AND FIND THE POACHERS WHO WANT TO KILL ALL!!!!Sandy

Thanks simone. Wanting DNA sounds a little scary. It implies they'll be able to identify confiscated remains.
Let's hope they have a good plan to put into place, and it's not my imagination running wild. When it comes to mankind, I can think the worst - all of us can.
I agree with Sandra G - use every and any means available to find and get rid of the poachers FOR GOOD.

Nothing else seems to stop these idiots from killing these beautiful animals, so maybe knowing their remains will be identified & prosecution carried out will do the trick. I don't understand how anyone can think,"What a cool animal! Let's kill it & make a rug out of it." Just knowing they share this planet with me makes me happy. I don't need his fur to prove anything. It would have the opposite effect, to be honest. The days of the Great Hunter are over.

Poachers will only kill animals if there is a market for their products!!

What a great idea! I hope it will spread throughout the world. Super! I hope they succeed!

That is all very well, but how will that protect these most marvellous creatures from being murdered by poachers or trophy hunters?

@ Julia P. - "I don't understand how anyone can think,"What a cool animal! Let's kill it & make a rug out of it." Just knowing they share this planet with me makes me happy. I don't need his fur to prove anything. It would have the opposite effect, to be honest."

Well said! I totally agree with you, Julia.

I hope this helps to save them from extinction rather than targeting them for killing.
