American- style beauty pageants which border on child abuse are being introduced in Australia. Let's make it clear that we do not want this. Beauty pageants are cruel, demeaning, and sexualising. Children need to be playing with their friends and family

This picture says it all -- sexualizing children for the egos of their demented parents (usually Mums). We have this plague in the U.S. and it is dismissed as an aberration of the Southern Culture (one of many). I'd like to see in-depth interviews with adult women graduates of these freak shows and hear how the experience has affected them.

Signed in a thrice! Noted.

My comments:
This is blatant child abuse! It is quite despicable and it is unethical of parents to force their little girls to ape adult women, sexualizing these girls many years before they have (or should have) any idea what this primping, posturing, painting and flaunting of their bodies is actually about. The whole thing is both vile and profoundly immoral!

What with all the Bisphenol A making girls go through puberty earlier, all the stupid magazines, and idiot mothers making their little girls engage in ridiculous activities such as this, the poor little kids won't have any childhood! Stop this now! Signed, noted, thanks Simone.

These girls are portrayed as adult woman, plastered with makeup, and usually have catwalk routines that border on stripping. From what I have watched, it is often the parents living their dreams of beauty or stardom through their children! It should be outlawed ~ just digusting. Signed and noted.

Too much of this type exposure can end tragically .Remember Jon Bonet Ramsey. Let the child enjoy being a child. They'll learn to ebrace superficial tendancies soon enough!

You Bet I signed this. Any Adult that has a mental problem cause they want their little Darling to look like the Queen of the universe is a sick person. Children are children and not Adult Barbie Dolls. Thank you Dotti. People should of learned from the jon Bonet Ramsey case that's still a mistery just like poor Caylee and her mother got off scott free of murdering her.

signed and noted, but it saddens me that we have got to the point as a society in Australia that when we come it comes to children, we need to ban this type of affair. Parents should no better. When you need a law or ban for something like this it doesn't say much for our society in Australia. We should not better!

Gladly signed. This should never be happening - it is just a way of making money out of children who have no say in the matter. Why are we following America - because that is where it all got started.....with JonBenet - the murdered 6 year old forced into the horrible charade of so called 'beauty pagentry. This sort of things encourages the paedophiles the world over to gratify their immoral urges.

Joy is right. We should start a petition to ban
child beauty pageants.
100 years from now, future societies will look
back on us and we will be judged harshly for
our lack of reasonable laws.

This is not a game. These parents are giving these children a twisted comception of life. They are building a foundation not on education, personality, ability to interact socially and appreciate people for their individuality and what they have to offer. They will live life only for personal beauty which eventually fades and then they will have nothing to offer or fall back on and will distort life for their own children.

Thank you Simone for this post - noted, signed and shared on FB. EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN - absolutely shocking - parents are either using their children for monetary gain or trying to fulfill something that was missing in their younger lives - which I find IMHO so SAD!!! Children are not given to us to use, abuse, exploit - they are A GIFT TO US -
