The Governor and the NJ Legislature are considering legislation that will let shelters euthanize their animals before the 7 day waiting period has expired, letting them do it in 24 hours JUST TO SAVE MONEY!! This is insane and beyond cruel!

If they do this, they should be forced to also hang a banner/sign on the front that changes it's name from shelter to Murder Factory. Let's call it what it REALLY is. 7 days is already too short, they obviously have no intention of trying to adopt them out.

Noted and signed. TY Simone.
If a cat or dog gets lost, we all know t can take more than a day to reunite owners with their pets. I agree with Katie R - they have no intention of getting pets home or adopting them into homes. What a bunch of a**h***s.

I totally disagree with this! It is unfair to the animals and doesn't even give them a chance to overcome their unfortunate situations. I recently went to a shelter and it broke my heart how many cute animals were in line to be killed with simply not enough people o possibly adopt them all, its insanely cruel. Do we kill orphaned babies because nobody will adopt them of course not they are living beings, not comparing animals to people but they are living being as well!

"Shelter" for LESS THAN 7 DAYS, then death. How minimal. If it were you who had ony 7 days to live and maybe, just maybe, someone could reverse that end result given a little more time and investment (like advertised 2-week adoption offering or 2-week hold and transfer to one of the no-kill shelters), tell me you wouldn't be for that. Regain your humanity and adjust your thinking on this matter.

There are far more kill shelters in NJ than non-kill. I work in a non-kill. Presently, we have 45 cats in the shelter, and over 40 in foster homes. We have 10 dogs in the shelter, and over 20 in foster homes.
It's heartbreaking when you get a call from someone who has a litter of kittens or puppies that need adoption -as well as adult animals, and we have to turn them away as we do not have anymore room at this time. Their only other option is to call animal control, who will put them down.
Every county in NJ should have a non-kill shelter.

I wish we could encourage NJ to become no-kill and never euthanize pets. Time limits are terrible and too many adoptable pets are euthanized unjustly.
