I live over a restaurant, and we had 3 feral sisters who lived out back and visited quite regularly for meals - one used to climb onto the roof to visit my cat thru the window. They were relocated to a farmhouse - which is a whole 'nother story - but the vet who caught and treated them explained to me that the notches in their ears were to indicate to rescue people that they had already been treated and spayed. All that was to say, that it's good to live in an area where stray cats have guardian angels.
