As campaign season rolls along, Republicans everywhere have been using dog whistle language, and sometimes direct statements, to demean minorities. Republicans seem unable to function without the politics of fear and hate. One Republican candidate for the US Senate faced a terrible dilemma. He could not attack black people, because Michigan has such a large black population, so he went after Asians instead.

Old style politics or just the same old play on a racist mentality that does and has existed in the US since the time of the founding of this country. This stupid, immoral belief that something inexplicable about WHITE people is somehow cleaner and better then any other race is what makes this sort of political ad appealing to those who don't even acknowledge their own racist bias. This isn't just dirty politics, this is roll in the mud, grasping for the limelight low class, insipid filth.

Don't buy into the Fear-mongering of the RepublicanTs and Tea-buggers.

It's one thing to fear-monger, but it is something even worse to do so while outright lying to the voters about your own responsibility in our national debt.
Pete Hoekster should be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. At the very least, he should be sued by the American people for having violated the truth in advertising laws and thrown in jail for fraud.

I have been subjected to racism on both sides of the coin --- my mother's father walked my brother and I to the corner store in Buffalo NY when we were children. When we were near the store, there were a lot of blacks hanging around and my grandfather grabbed me harshly by the shoulder and pulled me close to him saying "Get over here girl or the n. . .rs are going to get you!" He demonised the blacks in such a way that I still remember it over 50 years later as if it were yesterday. I never respected my grandfather after that and couldn't wait to get back to Canada. The other side of the coin came when I was in my last year of highschool. I was asked to go out to a Christmas party with the cousin of my best friend. He was from Jamaica and we would sit together etc at school talking. I liked this fellow until after the Christmas party when I overheard he and a group of friends talking. He said he only took me out to see how far he could get with a little white girl! Well he didn't get very far at all and I wanted nothing to do with him ever again.

Why is it that humans cannot see the beauty in each soul? Why cannot people see that, in the words of the Moor in Kevin Costner's Robin Hood, "Allah loves wondrous variety."

We all bleed red when cut. We all put our pants on one leg at a time (well except firemen who slide down a pole into bothboots with pants attached!). We all cry when we're hurt. We all mourn the loss of friends and family. We all have a voice to communicate. We all have two arms with which to hug another. We all need food and water to survive physically and love to survive emotionally. Why then do we insist on shooting ourselves in the foot with racism and greed?

Hoekstra reminds me of the Boers, the Afrikaans of South Africa in the past. What's worse, not only is he a racist, but he lies such that I don't think he knows what the truth is. For that matter, how many other Republican/Teabaggers know the truth? The Republican/Teabagger politicians too often are sheeple too --- they believe the lies and self interests of their corporate masters! And those that do get a glimmer of understanding but deny it are complicit in this theft of America from the American people.

I think I better stop flapping my jaws now before they become the jaw bones of a jackass.

The political process needs to be liberated from the gutter in which the elites have cast it.

I agree it was a crappy thing to say. On the other hand what makes you any better? You say Republicans hate Asians, you don't know me so quit answering for me. I notice several of you call names ...Teabaggers.
Seriously, how is that better? I don't hate anybody.

Oh, Am I glad my dear departed Republican Father is not alive to see this. Last election,he thoroughly disagreed with Obama's policy, but defended his right to run for office.

The Republican Party continues to use race baiting for political gains. This does not create political capital. It only serves to isolate them from the main stream. This Primitive way of thinking has no place in society. It is sad to see that none of its members take a stance against this issue. A political party that refuses to embrace all members of society is doomed to failure. I hope that in my life time a genuine third party emerge. The so call tea party is certainly not the answer. Their extremist views are synonymous with Republican Party.

Thanks to all. For the record, I never said that all Republicans hate Asians or anybody else. Many in the Republican rank and file are decent people. When I talk about hatred as a Republican trait, I'm talking about the politicians and pundits, because whether or not they are haters themselves, they pander to hate for political advantage. What amazes me is that many decent rank and file Republicans have not left a party that misrepresents them.

Ad agencies have no allegiances --they'll take any side in order to make money --although his particular agency might rank a few notches below the rest. I wasn't surprised to learn this same agency created ads to help salvage the campaign of Christine O'Donnell. We all know how well that worked.

Pete Hoekstra is defending his insensitive and racist ad by claiming that "liberals" always cry "racism." However, the Asian-American population is also crying racism, and rightfully so. Even if Mr. Hoekstra truly (albeit wrongfully) believes that "liberals"don't have the right to point out an obvious racial injustice, he can't deny the fact that Asian-Americans --who were targeted, exploited, stereotyped and victimized in his desperate attempt to drum up votes-- have every right to!

Thanks for posting this one, Tom! Exasperating, but important!
