Because Republicanís have refused to compromise on revenue enhancements, $1.2 trillion in across-the-board cuts are scheduled to take effect in January, weighted heavily toward cuts in defense spending. Thatís an anathema to Republicans, because defense contractors, who want to keep producing outdated weapons systems that were appropriate for the cold war, but are not needed today, are a key Republican constituency. So Ryan and his minions want YOU to BEND OVER instead.

This sorry excuse is certifiable. I'd be very happy to see him carted off in a straight jacket to a rubber room.

What else can we expect form Ayn Rand's adoring baby boy. Look East, Ryan. Look at Europe today. Ryan you can be replaced. The 99% have a lot more power than your outdated defense contractors et. all.

The GOP and it's handmaiden Ryan is a malignant cancer on America.

sickening to even consdier the fact that about half of the people in the US might vote for GOP candidates....they have so gotten away from the idea that whats good for one in this country is good for the Ryan and his fellow GOPers its social darwinism....with survival of the fittest replaced by survival of the lucky born....

"... But they stake out Republicansí negotiating stance on replacing $1.2 trillion ..." --- Now that's rich. The word 'negotiating' being used in conjunction with Republican/Teabaggers! I wonder how much 'negotiating' they will do as Jan 1 approaches and they realise that their precious defense budget is going to be shaved by $54.7billion per year? I wonder how they will balance the needs of the uber wealthy to not be taxed with the needs of the military industrial complex and their rapacious appetite for wars to fight?

Of bigger concern is the damage done by cuts to social programmes, programmes that help the least powerful survive. I know people who durvive here in Vancouver on $14,000/yr and are seniors. Were they no in government subsidised assisted living, they might not survive. Yet, in the US where there are costs that our seniors don't have to contend with, like expensive medications, food stamps and social security can literally make the difference between life and death.

I think that Ryan, and indeed all the GOP war mongerers, should be compelled to live on social security and food stamps for one month. Live in an SRO, take only the clothes on their backs (not cell phones etc), no contact with their families. Find out how 'easy' it is to survive. A BC politician did exactly this very recently. He had to sell his backpack for something to eat and bus fare home to the suburbs. He lost 30 pounds during that month. He is in his 40's but it gave him a new appreciation. But what about those that know they won't get out in 30 days? What about those that have no hope for breaking this cycle of poverty? What about those who only hear that the Republican/Teabaggers want to take away more so that their rich friends can have better mansions, more caviar and foie gras?

Paul Ryan, the devil incarnate if you ask me, needs to have his butt whooped!

Every Republican/Teabagger in office is one too many! Vote Democrat 2012!!!!! Vote Obama/Biden 2012!!!!!

Ryan makes me ill every time I hear him speak. It amazes me that so many people think he is intelligent.

I completely agree with Lynn - and am amazed that a BC politician actually tried living at a subsistence level for a month - here many years ago Edwina Currie tried it for a week - which was laughable! Edith - surely you have to be thicker than Ryan to think him intelligent....?! Obviously you aren't!

We must organise and argue and never give up contesting for the rights of the ordinary people against the billionaires and the arms dealers!

LOL Dottie......I cannot write what I'd like to do to the POS...him, Boner Boehner, TurtleMan McConnell, Buttwad Cantor....the whole Fascist lot of them up there on that Ivory Towered Hill......But I can fantasize all I want to....they can't take that from me.....yet.

Someone needs to inform Sieg Heil Ryan that his Goddess Rand ended up on Social Security when she was old and she didn't refuse it. His Idol had clay feet.

Look to the is what we need to do come November.

Let's see....$350 billion cut from social programs OR... 350 Billion cut from the military? Hmmmmm ORRRRR these moronic selfish pea brains could simply cut the tax breaks for the wealthy. JUST HOW STUPID or IMMORAL are these jerks????? Do these clueless bastards thinks the poor should just eat cake???? This whole thing is like a twisted Twilight zone episode. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

I have a hard time understanding how voters in Ohio-Boehner,Kentucky-McConnell,Virginia-Cantor,and Wisconsin-Ryan elect these (expletive)to represent them after witnessing their adolescent, ignorant self serving behavior. Hopefully in November a majority of these voters will reconsider putting them back in office.

Edith B - apologies - I should have written 'one' not 'you'; ie 'one has to be thick to think Ryan intelligent' - it has been observed to me by a kind friend that if one does not know me one might misconstrue what I wrote!

(Now this one is going to take her multi-day migraine and go back to her one bed!).

I just read a perceptive article posted by Lynn. Some of it could be applied to Ryan.

Ryan is a perfect example of how little right wingers know about the world.

So true, Tom, I wish 10% of Americans were as well informed about US politics as that Canadian.

I wish 1/10 of a percent of Americans were as well informed on fiscal matters as Alexis Tsipras of Greece. Will the land from which came the valiant 300 Spartans lead us all to freedom again?
