Although I covered the tax cut fight yesterday, it has, to a large extent, dominated the news since. As expected, Willard Romney and the Republican party have been making ludicrous assertions, and its important that you know what they are and how to debunk them. For example, Barack Obama is not raising taxes, as Republicans falsely claim. The expiration of the Bush tax cuts in January, 2011 was originally built into the law itself, before Congress passed a two year extension. To blame Obama for the expiration of a law that passed before he took office is absurd.

From the very first time I heard Nick Hanauer speak on "job creators" last year, he has made so much sense, and he still does. Put money in the hands of those who will spend it and thereby create jobs that's the middle class. A feedback loop. Anybody should be able to understand that, even Republican/Teabaggers. The trouble is, the GOP don't want to understand it because it doesn't serve their purpose to not raise taxes on the wealthy. The GOP is caught in the "can't raise taxes on the wealthy" rut ! And you know what a 'rut' is don't you? a grave with the ends knocked out!

My natural inclination is to be collegial, a consensus maker when at all possible. But I also recognise that there are times when even a collegial person has to be a non collegial hard-ass. That time has come for Mr Obama. He can't lose sight of the larger, long term picture by caving to the Republican/Teabaggers. The GOP are economic domestic terrorists and it is time they were put out of business.

if the 1% were the job creators why doesn't Mr. Mitt take all his overseas money and invest it in jobs in the US rather than "keep it for myself" funds elsewhere??????

Just my lil ol 2/100ths here but.........I would love to see it made into law that one looses their citizenship if they house their ill gotten gains in offshore banks....especially if they run for the presidency.

Way pass time for the rich to start paying their fair share, The middle class are the job creators if they have no money to buy things then there is no need to make things,I agree with Terrie about the offshore banks.

What freaks me out is how blatantly they lie, and how their followers still follow them much to their own demise. What is this? They have really crossed the lines of decency and are running with scissors toward us! They are insane, or is it us who are insane for allowing them to get this far?! Seriously, is this really America? Are the American people this stupid?
Why are the American people not rioting in the streets by now?

The rich aren't the job creators, that's just a bunch of malarcky they scream whenever they're in danger of having to (gasp!) pay their fair share. They either scream that or try to rile people up by screaming about class warfare. The truth is they're a bunch of money grubbing, anti-99%, pro-corporate elitists that get their jollies from riding around on their high horses while the rest of us are left to shovel out the stables. What a sad lot they are. Thanks Tom.

The wealthy own our Congress and as long as that is a reality, we cannot expect them to care about the middle class. Until the American voters wake up and start thinking for themselves, we will have nothing better.

I assume that one day we will get the real deal about all of this money. Pension funds and milking the system to their advantage.... They are just finishing what they begun years ago..They are finishing us off.

Who cares about Mtt, aka Willard,'s money! I don't care about Obama's either. What I would like is adult leadership and neither will provide that...or know how.

Yes Tom we are! I wonder where are the self made rugged individuals with all the potential money in green energy, that is something to support, that will help us unhook from the Matrix.
