In the campaign of 1956, I wore an “I Like Ike” button, but I was only eight years old. I actually understood many of the issues four years later, and I was the only member of my family to support Kennedy. Now I have followed over half a century of campaigns and have seen plenty of zingers in that time, but I have never seen a campaign where a party’s entire effort was based on deception, until now.

don't like Romney, but I really don't like Ryan - I've heard people call him Eddie Munster grown up but for me, he's more like Eddie Haskell - smarmy, dishonest, and kind of creepy.

Thanks TomCat. I was 10 in 1956 and I too wore an "I Like Ike" button but that was the last time I "supported" a Republican candidate and as far as I know I'm still the only Democrat on my Dad's side of the family. But back to the topic at hand. The GOP was just a three ring parody of political intelligence with lies, misrepresentation of facts and rewriting the history of the last 12 years. Read and agreeably noted.

I don't know if Paul Ryan is capable of telling the truth, some people are just habitual liars. He even lied about his marathon running time.
Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan says he didn't run a marathon in less than three hours as he claimed in a nationally broadcast interview.
The candidate acknowledged Saturday he had misstated his marathon time by more than an hour.
He released a statement correcting the record after Runner's World magazine found evidence he had completed one marathon and finished in just over four hours.
Ryan told radio host Hugh Hewitt last month he had run a "two hour and fifty-something" marathon. That's a pace of less than 7 minutes per mile for the 26.2 mile course - extremely fast for recreational runners.
Ryan said he should have rounded his marathon time to four hours, not three
If Runner's World magazine had not called him on this lie would he have admitted to it? Draw your own conclusion

I certainly hope that the public is now seeing this "terrible ticket" for what it is. A very ugly pair of unethical, immoral and selfish men who are rich and think they are so entitled it does not matter what they say. I hope that Obama takes a big clue here and TELLS THE TRUTH at the DNC. He and everyone who speaks there needs to be very very honest and dispel the lies of the Repukelicans. We certainly do not want the media ripping him like it did the RNC. A stark comparison would be a real boost to the campaign, and, even though Obama owns the middle class, it would be nice to put R&R away despite the big buck criminal donors!

Let's hope there are SOME people of intelligence within that Party and they cross over "into the light." There will always be SHEEP who would vote for HITLER if he were Republican.

When did people stop caring about the truth? Telling the truth is a measure of a person's integrity, and voters who don't insist upon being afforded that measure of dignity, i.e., being treated with honesty and respect, and who allow themselves to believe what they'd LIKE to believe, will only get what they deserve. Unfortunately, they drag the rest of us down with them because we all have to live with the candidate who gets 270 electoral votes. It's not fair to those of us who love our country enough to spend hour upon hour reading, researching, and investigating the facts in order to make an informed choice in the voting booth.

Sadly, many will believe the lies they hear repeatedly from the Republicans because they are too lazy to try to find the truth. I gave up on ever hearing anything honest from them when the Supreme court gave dubya the election over Gore. McConnell promised they would concentrate on seeing that Mr. Obama did not have a second term, that is all they have done, to the detriment of our country.

Edith, I'm afraid that PART of the problem is our schools quit teaching CIVICS....there's no real education on how to think criticially or what responsibilities of citizenship entail.
Sp, as you say, we have a lazy electorate who will vote Republican because they're TOLD to do so!...even the women!

Green star to Edwin - tried to give green stars to Maggie S and Susanne - but that dratted computer foiled me again!
On the subject of Lyin' Ryan's marathon times - according to what I read elsewhere on this site, he not only lied about the time in the first place (reducing over four hours to two hours fifty something) but then lied about the lying - saying he would have rounded the time up differently if he had been lying... Is there ANYTHING straightforward and honest about this man (no, don't answer that - there isn't).
As Mark Twain said - "If you cannot trust a man in small things, you cannot trust him in large things."
I completely agree with your commentary about the Democratic ads too - exemplary.

It's one thing to hate liars and quite another to love them. You help them out quite often by posting the fabricated, hateful and sometimes even racist information they spread through their "emails gone viral" --and when you're called on it, you don't even bother to respond or defend what you've posted. I'm guessing that you just want to get that information out there and don't particularly care whether or not it's true. If you did, you'd do a little research to verify its authenticity --especially after you've been called on it.

There's a big difference between loving liars and hating them. You continue to post comments from "emails gone viral" that contain information that is taken out of context, fabricated, and sometimes even racist --and you never defend what you've posted when you're called on it. If you believed what you posted, you'd defend it.

I remember posting this yesterday, but now it is gone. Nothing deep but ...
I think most politicians lie or at least stretch the truth. Some would call it parsing the language. But when the entire campaign is built solely on lies and innuendo, that is taking things way over the top. I know your momma wanted an over achiever, but I don't think this is what she had in mind!

I just found out that Lyin' Ryan is coming to MY town on Tuesday! I may do some protesting outside the rec center-it is going to depend how my 15 1/2 year old doggie is feeling. In the last 10 days she has been to the emergency vet once and my vet 3 times. She comes first!

Obama has not done all he said he would do however...many promises were broken on the backs of the rethuglicans in Congress who have fought him at each and every turn. The only job they care about is Obama's. Wrongmey and Lyin' Ryan are running a campaign built on lies and deceit and even when called on it often won't back down. Honestly, I'm surprised Ryan admitted he lied about the marathon. I'm with Maggie on this and hope Obama calls them out on their lies. No more "Mr Nice Guy" Obama, games up, times up, pin them to wall where they belong.

The lies are off the charts crazy. The only ones who could pissibly vote for these creeps are the wealthy elite who eant to maintain the trend of stealing from the poor to feed the rich. Clint Eastwood....must be senile....i will be campaigning in Iowa, and working hatd to make sure Obama wins, john, you are a lost soul my friend. I hope you just stay home on election day.
