One might think that, given their disastrous fate on Tuesday, Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians would back off their continuous stream of hatred toward and encouragement of violence against LGBT people. Sadly, if one did think that, one would be wrong.

The words acceptance, moderation or love of fellow humans is missing in their vocabulary.

I think the big word missing is God LOVE to all people!

They talk of an all-loving God - then in the name of that same God they practice vilest hate and discrimination. Boys and girls, can you say "whited sepulcher"? Bugnuts like the National Organization of Marriage are the reason I am not a Christian - and never will be one.

Your first comment Tom, agree. There is a segment of my family that are RWNJS, Evangelical. They of course chose to vote for a Mormon cultist.

It's all very sad to me.
We have one Mother Earth and we are all connected. We have much more in common then there are differences.
The hate, fear, propaganda, and lies turn the world into a dark place. It really doesn't have to be this way.

Thanks Tom for the post NOM will peddle the homophobia not matter what country and no matter the lives that they put in danger.

"Human beings are the only creatures on earth that claim a God and the only thing that behaves like it hasn't got one." - Hunter S. Thompson

A truly spiritual person does not kill or hurt others for what they believe.

I want to preface my comment with two things:1) I am a practicing Christian, NOT a Republican supply-side pseudo Christian; and 2) I am not under any circumstances trying to convert anyone to Christianity (I do not believe in that). For me, this an intellectual exercise.

Etymology of the word "Christian" taken from Wikipedia — The Greek word Χριστιανός (Christianos)—meaning "follower of Christ" —comes from Χριστός (Christos)—meaning "anointed one"]—with an adjectival ending borrowed from Latin to denote adhering to, or even belonging to, as in slave ownership. In the Greek Septuagint, christos was used to translate the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Mašíaḥ, messiah), meaning "[one who is] anointed."

As noted above, the term "Christian" literally means follower of Christ. So I would expect that one who professes to be a Christian would actually follow the teachings of Christ. And like most people, Christians don't always read the directions or they unintentionally misunderstand directions and screw up. But they keep trying to follow Christ and his teachings. But when one reads the directions and puts their own spin on it, intentionally twisting details and meanings, those people are supply-side pseudo Christians, not real Christians.

Here is how Matthew (22 : 35-40) records a question put to Jesus the Christ about the greatest commandment and how he answered:

"Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

I find it interesting in a rather odd way, that these Republican supply-side pseudo Christians even bother to call themselves "Christians" because they certainly are not! In the passage above, Jesus says to love God with all your heart, soul and mind. Yet how can these pseudo Christians do that when their hearts are so filled with HATE for other ethnicities, other religious beliefs, other emotional orientations (LGBT) etc. Is there any room left for God? I doubt it! And the second part, Jesus says to love your neighbour as yourself. Based on the continued hatred of LGBT peoples around the globe, and on the targeting them for deliberate violence, these pseudo Christians must really HATE themselves.

These people feed on and espouse HATRED, not the LOVE taught by Jesus. As such, they should not call themselves Christians. To be openly inciting violence against others, in this case the LGBT community, these pseudo Christians should be declared a hate group, but lots of luck getting that designation when there is so much misunderstanding about the use of the word "Christian".

The Republican supply-side pseudo Christians are the ones that give you Michele Bachmann and her despicable outbursts against the LGBT community and Muslims; the Akins and Mourdocks and their views of women, rape, and abortion; Beck; NOM; Operation Rescue; and the many, many others that line up behind them cheering.

EXactly Lynn - that is how I try and live my life - by Matthew 22 35-40; I do wonder why these Far Right 'Christians' don't have slaves or that they eat pork or shellfish, or that they don't sell their daughters into arranged marriages. (Mind you, some of us may wonder that the Far Right are trying to reintroduce slavery with their APPALLING pay rates, their hatred of good working conditions and health care for their workers.)

You cannot currently send a star to Lynn because you have done so within the last week. Dang!

If you are a REAL Christian, more power to you! If you are a Buddhist, more power to you! If you are REAL Muslim, more power to ya! And, even if you are of the Jewish faith, more power to ya. BUT, (yeah, here's my big, agnostic butt observing something not mentioned much)... IF you are of your faith and truly believe in a 'God' or his 'Son' then would you not follow the NEW Testiment and NOT the Old, which is essentually the TORAH and of the Jewish religion? Just asking because that is really where the American Taliban (aka Religious Right) get ALL of their extreme idiology. JMO. And going solely by the Old Testament, would they not be considered Jews and NOT Christians?

Something to ponder and I am just asking. Just seems to me if one considers themself Christian then one would have to follow the New Testiment and not the Old which is what Jesus broke with to bring a NEW WORD.

THIS is one of the many reasons I left Christianity long ago!

Far too many of them CLAIM to love their "gentle Jesus" but use him as a whip to punish anyone who dares to disagree with their ever-so-enlightened interpretation of words allegedly spoken by an alleged man/god who allegedly lived decades (or even centuries) before those words were allegedly written as "gospel."

Then, other factions will "pooh-pooh" the actions of the first group and claim that they, and ONLY they, know the "real Jesus."

Then, sharing my views will often result in someone writing me a private message telling me that ALL I NEED IS THE WILL TO BELIEVE!

Right.

When people pray they are expressing their feelings and emotions to their god however, when god is talking to them, it called schizophrenia.

When I read comments about how god makes the choices for each life, I really wish I could afford mental health for these people. Even as a child I was told, "god helps those who help themselves". That is not an indictment of those in poverty, it's the once important issue of religion, use some guiding principles of how to treat yourself and by extension your fellow man. Do the best you can while on this earth, give your concern and love to all, and your life will filled with accomplishment far beyond the reward of money.

The New Testament is based in Christianity being in secular society (Greco-Roman). It is worth noting that there was homosexuality and abortion and what not in the Roman Empire but the emphasis was on saving souls, not changing laws....

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) plans to expand its campaign to stoke homophobia abroad to undermine pro-equality American companies, according to audio of a conference call obtained by The American Independent. When asked during the call about Starbucks, which had spoken out against anti-gay ballot referenda, NOM President Brian Brown suggested his organization planned to intensify its campaign against Starbucks and other similar companies in countries where homophobia is pervasive:

Their international outreach is where we can have the most effect…So for example, in Qatar, in the Middle East, we’ve begun working to make sure that there’s some price to be paid for this. These are not countries that look kindly on same-sex marriage. And this is where Starbucks wants to expand, as well as India. So we have done some of this; we’ve got to do a lot more.

This strategy is incredibly irresponsible: by associating Starbucks with gay rights in homophobic countries, NOM is singling out Starbucks employees for anti-gay abuse and more generally stoking anger towards LGBT people. The broader Middle East is home to three out of the five countries in the world where homosexuality is punishable by death. Though Qatar specifically isn’t one of them, its government defends other countries’ right to execute LGBT persons and, according to the State Department, “there was an underlying pattern of discrimination towards LGBT persons based on conservative cultural and religious values prevalent in the society.”…
====================================
"This strategy is incredibly irresponsible: by associating Starbucks with gay rights in homophobic countries, NOM is singling out Starbucks employees for anti-gay abuse"...
This STRATEGY, is DELIBERATELY playing on the extremist Muslim tendency towards fomenting MASS VIOLENCE - in other words, not just targeting those local people in those countries who choose to work for Starbucks; but, targeting the STARBUCKS BUSINESSES THEMSELVES for RIOTS, demonstrations that have every possibility for turning violently destructive and even murderous.

Of course, the idea of NOM is to "punish" Starbucks for their support of LGBT Rights, by making it TOO DANGEROUS and therefore impossible for them to open new businesses in those areas.
But NOM DELIBERATELY, and "with Malice aforethought", INTENDS MURDER - MURDER! OF HUMAN BEINGS - who may or may NOT be Gay, may just be employees of Starbucks, or, as in many violent conflicts, just be people caught in the wrong place at the wrong time...

NOM, the NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MARRIAGE, IS PLANNING - PLANNING! - ON MURDER - MURDER! - TO OBTAIN ITS OBJECTIVES. PLANNING. ON. MURDER.
Of course, they will use "Muslims" as their "cat's paw" to accomplish this MURDER.
But, they are DELIBERATELY INCITING THE MUSLIMS, AND INCITING THE MURDERS - THAT WILL TAKE PLACE.

SORRY, but it seems to me that you guys on this thread, are "stroking yourselves", making YOURSELVES "FEEL GOOD" about HOW ENLIGHTENED YOU ARE - which is FINE! nothing wrong with that - and how awful the Far-Right "Xians" are, not at all like YOU Enlightened Ones!
While you are "debating" and discussing the merits of your various religious beliefs -

The NOM is openly hatching its IRRESPONSIBLE PLANS OF MURDER AND VIOLENCE.

Sorry, Guys, Sorry Sorry Sorry you are all my Friends {STILL, I HOPE!} -
BUT I CAN'T HELP THINKING YOU ARE DRASTICALLY MISSING THE POINT HERE!!!!! [SHOUT, SCREAM!]

The point being, that what the NOM and its related "Christian" groups INTENDS, in Muslim countries and in parts of Africa, too, which are nominally "Christian" -
IS NOTHING LESS THAN GENOCIDE. GENOCIDE AGAINST GAYS.
GENOCIDE MEANING, THEY INTEND TO WIPE OUT ALL GAYS AND "GAYNESS" FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH. BY PHYSICALLY KILLING ALL THE GAY PEOPLE.
Look up the CURRENT Definitions of "Genocide". The CURRENT Definitions include, actions against "Cultural groups". In other words, not necessarily a "Race" or Ethnic group...
It may be "physically impossible" to kill all the Gay people, as it was to kill all the Jews, but by gosh, they're sure going to GIVE IT A GOOD TRY... and how many will actually DIE in the process? The killings have ALREADY BEGUN...

It seems to me, that CONSCIOUSNESS-RAISING, as well as ACTION, eventually on an INTERNATIONAL LEVEL, is what is called for.
My friends, my friends, my friends - STOP "STROKING YOURSELVES" for being SOOOOOOOO "Enlightened" - tho there is nothing WRONG with that! - it is mostly, here & now, a Waste of Time!!!!!!!!!!

These NOM "Christian" types, are CROSSING BORDERS AND BREAKING INTERNATIONAL LAW, I think it can be found that they are!!!
This is NO DIFFERENT, from those FAR-RIGHT GROUPS, that SPONSORED that moronic anti-Islam Porn film, titled "Innocence of Muslims" - again, with the INTENT of DELIBERATELY STIRRING UP RIOTS - which they were certainly SUCCESSFUL AT - and MANY WERE KILLED IN SEVERAL COUNTRIES, because of the riots! HOORAY! The Far-right got its wish!!! They WANTED to make trouble for the Obama administration abroad... and they did!

So now we see, BEFORE IT ACTUALLY HAPPENS, the NOM "Christian" PLANS FOR RIOTS TAKING PLACE AROUND STARBUCKS OPENINGS IN VARIOUS COUNTRIES. Believe me, they are BUSILY USING PROPAGANDA TO STIR UP THE MUSLIMS RIGHT NOW. Against good ol' Starbucks...
The Muslims of course, don't realize they are BEING USED...

Start thinking, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH GENOCIDE...
[rather than debating various theologies, O.T. vs. N.T., all that has really been SETTLED here on Care2, except for the trolls, and they DON'T COUNT...!]
Git outta yer IVORY TOWERS OF SAFETY....!!!!! My friends!!!

The NOM, is publicizing MAPS {on the Internet} in Muslim countries, MAPS showing THE LOCATION OF EACH STARBUCKS.
This is INTENDED to PUT IN DANGER: NOT merely Gay people, who probably patronize Starbucks in numbers no more or no less than other people do.
This is INTENDED to STRIKE FEAR into: Starbucks EMPLOYEES, and anyone CONTEMPLATING employment at Starbucks in these countries; Starbucks MANAGERS, to get them to "think twice" about opening franchises; and potential Starbucks CUSTOMERS, who might not want to be "stigmatized as Gay" or "Gay-supporters", or, for that matter, to be caught in a Starbucks when a RIOT breaks out!

[Of course, this has nothing whatsoever to do, with me and others sortof disapproving of FRANCHISES like Starbucks, replacing local coffee shops, both here and abroad!]
[Also, we can note, that it is physically impossible to "get rid of all the Gays", because NEW ones are constantly being BORN - to Straight parents! But, the Far Right "Christians" pay no mind to this in their PLANS...]

The Far Right "Christians", are TAKING THEIR BATTLE - and it IS a battle, to the Death - against Gays, abroad, because they are losing it here at home - which is only "temporary", according to their view of things.
After their "SUCCESSES" abroad, where they are receiving more sympathetic hearing - they intend, according to THEIR OWN WRITINGS, to return STRONGER THAN EVER, to re-introduce their "anti-Gay Crusade" back here again into the U.S.!!!
So, WE HAVE NOT HEARD THE LAST OF THEM, IN THIS COUNTRY...
The plans of NOM et al, go WAY BEYOND just this one Election.....
They are planning for a very, very long term. Believe it.

[You WON'T combat them successfully, by telling yourselves and other people, how "un-Christian" they are...
they are AN EXTREMELY WELL-ORGANIZED, EXTREMELY WELL-FUNDED, POLITICAL FORCE...
"disliking" them on perfectly wonderful Theological grounds, is NOT THE POINT...!!!]
