Yesterday the Republican sequester was welcomed by a cacophony of cheers from Republican politicians, despite their hypocrisy of blaming Obama at the same time. Perhaps, if the sequester was going to harm billionaires and corporate criminals, Republicans would not be cheering, but at least in the short term, the ones harmed will be the most vulnerable.

One would think that after losing two federal elections this nitwits would wise up and end their partisan crap but I guess their jobs ..working for ALL Americans..are less important than the funding/per$onal Corporate benifit$ they've already aquired. Thus,I'm thinking it will not be such a shock to any of them when they aren't re-elected in their up coming elections. That will be their end results of this issue........in my opinion :-) .

I share your opinion, Jae, and Tom, too - obviously, these people are found wanting in the important areas, like compassion, intelligence, and awareness. At this point in time, I'd vote for a rock before I'd vote for any GOP - come to think of it, that might be an improvement.

"Note that there would not have been a sequester if Republicans had not walked away from the negotiating table, because they thought they could get it all without negotiating by winning the election, that would, according to the Republicans, decide the issue. The people chose to reject what Republicans want, but Republicans do not care about the election now, because elections count only when they win. They do not care how much suffering they cause, as long as the protect welfare for the 1%. The people, whom the sequester will hurt most do not include billionaires and corporate criminals.Note that there would not have been a sequester if Republicans had not walked away from the negotiating table, because they thought they could get it all without negotiating by winning the election, that would, according to the Republicans, decide the issue. I simply could not have phrased it better - thanks TC.

Well they are all fat and happy and enjoying their 3 day weekend. All puffed up and proud I guess. I hope it bites them in 2014 and 2016. They obviously have not learned their lesson as they cotinue to march on catering to their corporate pimps and getting into our personal business on how we choose to live our lives.

I did send a couple of them, including Boner, a short note that simply said, "BOO HISS". Of course, I'm sure they will be struck sensitive all of sudden (not) but it made me feel better. What I'd really like to do is send them the contents of the litter box.

if it doesn't affect them ,and all they have had lately are defeats...than their money becomes their agenda, all the more...all they have left .......the regular joe republicans won't be cheering for long

another sad part is that the GOP pols I've heard bad-talking sequester are often only concerned about the cuts to the defense (military and civilian) budgets, but not anything else.......

when will the US be for ALL THE PEOPLE????? the GOP obviously only wants it for the wealthy......

The Republican Party has become a terrorist organization ruled by terrorists. Would like to think we could vote them all out, but they are covering themselves by voter suppression tactics. We've always known whose interests they protect, certainly not the majority of us.

I am enjoying the idea that Arielle suggested about the litter box! As long as we're imagining, gee wouldn't it be nice if we the people who pay the politicians' salaries/benefits (including all those wonderful vacation days) would get to see the meetings that now go on behind the scenes with Obama and Boehner. Anything regarding the budget should not be secretive and it would be entertaining viewing at the least.

Naaaaaaaaaa, Judy, you had it right the first time. :)

Carlene....not only bite them.....I hope it devours them. I would love to see the end of the Rethuglican/Bagger/CONservative party.....they need to go the way of the Whigs......or the dinosaurs....either one would thrill me. Then maybe we can stop this headlong rush into Fascism and get back to OF, BY and FOR the PEOPLE....ALL the people. Ya know, that little thang known as Republic....because I do not think we will ever have a true democracy in this nation.

Why does the Speaker insist on the President
"leading" and then, when he does, the Speaker
behaves like a petulant child?
Yes, that's a rhetorical question.........

It is as much Obama's sequester as it is the Republicans. We have a 2 party system. The problem is, both parties belong to the elite, even though "we the people" pay the bills! There is a better solution! Please sign;

The Requester was a law already put into effect if no decision could be reached, the Republicans would not budge and unemployment, our children and our economy will fall even worse, I can see the stock market falling already as well. If our President had to follow the law, so do not understand some of the comments above.

Unfortunately this is not the least accurate. It is the Obama Sequester; he came up with the idea and he failed to deliver as he promised, he owns it, it is all his. The Republicans did all that could be expected and he was not willing to make any moves from his position; it is all Obama.

I am still not so sure that BOTH parties didn't get what they wanted. Afterall, Obama has made 1.2 TRILLION (I think that's the number ?)in cuts already. Gov spending is DOWN, way down by comparisons. We seem to have survived this already BUT the REVENUE side of this MUST follow suit. REVENUE MUST INCRESE !!! Taking away from only us "little folk" (the majority) isn't just unfair it is UNETHICAL. Oh wait, I'm talking about politicians so that becomes an oxymoron...heavy on the MORON.
And... I still do not understand how the corporations and the rich intend to still make profits if NO ONE has any money to SPEND !!!!!!

Beverly no one but a few Republicans can, that till you ask them to tell you the way of doing this.

Linda The Republicans did all that could be expected. sorry but the Republicans just sat on their backsides not willing to help people like you, and still you stand up for them, I do feel so so sorry for you.

The only excuse for voting Republican is having gone more than 5 minutes without oxygen to the brain. There just isn't any other reasonable excuse for doing so. And I say this as a former 8 year Republican precinct captain back in the days before the extinction ot rational thinking and honor in the party.

When I met Reagan during the '80 campaign he scared me so badly I voted for John Anderson that year. I told everyone I suspected he had Alzheimer's, and sadly I was right. He just hadn't progressed far enough at that time for anyone around him to either suspect it or else act on it. It was obvious to me that he had no idea what he was talking about if it weren't one of his talking points, and he had never been accused of being stupid, so to me, it was obvious.

The Republicans did NOTHING linda, except obstruct. If you remember, when the sequester was first proposed Boehner boasted that he got "98% of everything I wanted." 100% of our economic problems are a result of conservative policy. Sadly, Clinton was a conservative Democrat, or corporatist, and passed the Republican NAFTA and CAFTA proposals and failed to veto the repeal of Glass Steagall and the passage of Gramm Leach Bliley, the 2 things that caused, along with the Reagan/Bush tax cuts, the economic disaster we now face and every single Republican action since 1981 has been the problem.

Yes, a few Democrats have gone along with these measures, but Democratic measures would fix all the problems if not for the stupidity or greed, whichever, of the Republican party.

Thanks to Tom Cat and Jae A. I couldn't have put it any better. I also think the contents of the litter box is perfect for them. I also think that all the single mothers who are on the WIC program should take all their children down to Boner's office and the like and have them babysit. Maybe they could take all of them to the cafeteria as well so the babies could have a decent meal.

Beverly said"... I still do not understand how the corporations and the rich intend to still make profits if NO ONE has any money to SPEND !!!!!!" But Corporations & the rich HAVE SO MUCH more money to spend since the Bu$h Tax Cuts that they can & do buy MORE Corporations & MORE RepubliCON Politicians..oh, and don't forget "journalists" (those seem to be a dime a dozen these days!;)
Trolls, I mean RepubliCONs, are here to stay - they won't go away until they're run out of town on a rail. But they are doing "all they can" to Provoke another repeat of History - the 1960's! :(

Arielle S: Ha Ha! A rock wouldn't need a big paycheck or vacations, and would never vote against the good of the people. Maybe we could even convince a rock to vote for a tax increase--at least there would be a possibility, which does not exist now.

I agree with many here....the GOP has signed its death certificate with this one. When people begin to see just who's being hurt, and feel it in their pocketbooks....that snowball will gain enough speed to become an avalanche. They may be up on their high horses now, but the fall is going to be long and painful. Hopefully, it will be enough to crush them completely. At some point, that pendulum has to start swinging back toward sensibility and compassion.

Look at all the CONS who voted for this thing; I think it was 174...PLUS Bonehead said (at that time) the he got '98 % of what he wanted'...how the HELL can this be 100% the fault of the President? PLUS who the hell left town for 9 days and decided not to work on this problem? Bonehead and the Cons!!
I think THEIR pay should be cut; they don't do a damn thing!!

Laura love the post, but sorry to say you could cut all their pay, would that hurt them, well no as they have move outside money to fall back on.
Lois has the GOP signed its death certificate, NO as there are still fools that will vote for them.

I have been amazed at how many Americans don't know what a 'sequester' is and don't know what is going on in Washington over the sequestration. I heard a news item that said 50% of Americans do not know about nor understand the sequestration.

Sequester = confiscate, appropriate, seize, impound, requisition

That means that the Republican/Teabaggers, authors of and chief cheerleaders for sequestration are going to confiscate the money for the WIC programme that benefits women, infants and children. That means that the Republican/Teabaggers, authors of and chief cheerleaders for sequestration are going to seize money for unemployment benefits for approximately 38.1% of the unemployed. That means that the Republican/Teabaggers, authors of and chief cheerleaders for sequestration are going to impound funds that would otherwise be used for a myriad of other smaller social programmes. All these programmes will suffer greatly because of Republican/Teabagger sedition. The least able of the American people are going to be tossed aside while the wealthiest and corporate entities, still get their welfare.

Does anybody not understand sequester now?

"Why are the Republicans so happy when they should be ashamed? "

Because they are egocentric, self absorbed idiots that think they have the right to do as they please. Because they see themselves as working for the wealthiest people and corporations, not every American. This is an act of sedition that should not go unanswered.

Texans said for years, and maybe still do, "Remember the Alamo!" Well I say "Remember the Republican/Teabagger sequester of 2013!" especially during the mid term elections in 2014.

Thanks to most. Needless to say the trolls are out , desperate to prevent America from understanding that, when Republicans demanded that we guarantee spending cuts by law, before they agreed to pay the nation's bills, that is what a sequester is. Their sedition caused a drop in the US credit rating. Now the deficit is 40% less than it was when Obama took office, so he has done a credible job, since the debt was incurred during the Bush Regime.

Hi DavidC, nice to see you, too.

The bills will get paid, TomCat. They always do. What you seem to believe is that spending cuts aren't necessary. Now, that's scary. Also, when you call a Care 2 member a "troll" on a public forum where you place your articles, I find that childish. If you believe that only liberals should comment on your articles keep them on Politics Plus or start your own political group on Care 2 and block all republicans from joining.

You have no control over who posts here.

BRET BAIER, HOST: Could somebody explain to me why Congress, why the president just doesn't say tomorrow, ďFine, transfer authority? Pentagon, you have transfer authority. You can do priorities. Take out of the conferences. I mean, you don't have to go to the stupid conference to do XYX. Save the personnel. Don't have the child care problem. Donít have the XYZ problem. Have transfer authority for these agencies and don't make it an issue.Ē Why doesnít, why donít they pass a bill tomorrow?

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: And that is precisely why this is the most ridiculously hyped Armageddon since the Mayan calendar. In fact, itís made, it looks worse than the Mayan disaster. Look, this as you say can be solved in a day in an hour by allowing a transfer of funds. Itís incredibly soluble, easily soluble. And the president is the one who ought to propose it. He won't of course because he is looking for a fight and not a solution.

But secondly, look at this in perspective. In terms of the Gross Domestic Product of our economy this is .03 of the, itís three, itís a third of 1% of our domestic economy. On the domestic side, well overall , itís 2.5 cents on the dollar, and overall on the non-defense side, itís a penny and a half on the dollar of reductions.

Here we are with a debt of $16 trillion and the argument today is that if we cut a penny and a half on non-defense spending in one year it's going to be the end of the world. If so, then we are hopelessly in debt or weíre going to end up like Greece.

obama and reid put this together they own it. if obama had of make cuts instead of trying to get more tax increases without spending cuts this wouldn't have happened. obama moved the goalposts and now he can own what he put in place. it's not like it's 50% of the budget it's 2.7%. the american tax payers have had to take more than that in cuts over the last 5 years. it's time for the fed to suck it up and clean up their bloated mess.
