My expectations for Barack Obama’s speech yesterday were guarded at best, given the deficits in his transparency to date. I was pleasantly surprised. To begin, here is the complete video of the speech, or, if you prefer, the complete text of the speech is here.

Am I wrong – or is this the Obama we thought would be in power before he was first elected? It does give me hope.

Typical knee jerk republican response but on the whole I thought it a great speech. Haven't been many presidents who have proposed limitations on their own power. This, much of it, will affect future presidents perhaps more so than he, but what he proposed is reasonable, necessary and appropriate. We cannot and should not remain on a "war" footing forever. We have real and present needs here we must take care of and we are fully capable of defending our nation should it come under attack. I liked it.

just heard replays of post-Obama speech interviews with Senators McCain and Graham....a) boy do they sound old, b) boy do they continue to be scared, and c) they once again say "The President has to be willing to work with us"??????

I have never wavered in my support for Obama. I believe he will be one of the best, if not THE best, president in history. To face what he has faced, with the adversity of such obstructionism (not for the good of the people but because they hate Obama) is mind boggling. I imagine what this country would now be like if only he received the SUPPORT of Congress for his phenomenal leadership. This is the WORST Congress in history...they are despicably shameful in the way they do NOT do their job...elected by the people, for the people...some have done nothing but obstruct to the detriment of their country! It makes he sick! This speech needed to be seen and heard by the whole country.
The respect with which Obama treated his heckler was not a surprise...it is his way! She should've been heckling Congress - not Obama, who has been trying to close Gitmo since he first became President.

Ty Tom. . .

. . .think what he and "we" could be doing without the ridiculous GOP whiner-bullies' "Operation 24/7 Sabotage " running constant interference [the only plays they know.] Quite remarkable what he's manage to do in spite of the malice and malversation. . .especially given the vast sums of misinformation that the "sabotagers" feed the public each and every day. We don't get to hear even a fraction of what he and crew do and have done. . .no time for it in bought and paid for "infotainment" broadcasting schedules. . .

You know, the guy may not make the best president but his psychological acumen might solve some of the "get along" problems of the nations. I know, he's supposed to use that acumen in his presidency but let's face it, the hardest country he has to get along with is our vociferous USA.

Me, he does one thing and I feel ready to support "MY PRESIDENT".

Then, he does another thing and it might not be sensible to express .............. I do not like him.

He is courageous. I mean, one or two people slur me and I'm upset. Thousands of people slur him and.....
he let's it slide. Like with the woman, loud, rude (the way I feel sometimes) and he calls her "Ma'm and says something positive about her, But how dare he risk our freedom's?

It's a bi-polar world.

Or is it just me?

Drone Strikes — I detest the use of drones, but I detest even more traditional bombing and military attacks that would, in my mind, kill even more people. We must also remember that today's combatants in Afghanistan etc move among the civilian population and are the ones putting those civilian populations at risk.

Rep Ellison — I thinnk he has more hope than I do when it comes to the Republican/Teabaggers coming to bipartisan solutions. Leopards do not change their spots. The GOP are obstructionists and I think they will continue to be so. But the midterms will hopefully change that.

I was impressed with the way Mr Obama handled the heckler by not making a joke etc but firmly telling her to sit down and let him finish.
