Here is the fifteenth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Mark Kessler, for the manner in which he typifies Republican decency, gentleness, and tolerance.

"Don’t forget. This guy is an elected Republican government official and self-proclaimed member of the Tea Party. When he shot himself, he was off duty and embroiled in a bar fight. Those are the last circumstances in which any sane individual would use a gun. Despite his intense love for guns, he displayed typical Republican competence by shooting himself. He represents the best the Republican Party has to offer."
Sorry TC but if he was a great Republican he would have missed when shooting himself

Gloria, while metaphorically I agree about the intolerance
let's not called them mass murderers just yet!
although the thinking is parallel, just the gop don't have the ability to put the poor in camps.
especially since 90% of the teaparty would fall into that category....(white trash)
I'm happy this guy is not a democrat. I have been unfortunate enough to have seen one of his videos and don't wish to subject myself to another round. There is a reason I don't tune in to Rush or FOX. If you are interested there is new book that seems a wonderful look(with some humor) at the decay and corruption of Washington DC, Mark Liebovich, "This Town". Not the decay of the city but the human once entering as an elected or appointed official.

The man has no class, he swears for lack of better words and the way he handles his gun suggests a lack of manhood as well. The next time he shoots himself, I hope he makes it count.

"He represents the best the Republican Party has to offer."
Well if not the best then certainly the essence. There is a man who should not be allowed to play with cameras, guns OR people. I wonder when the NRA will have his poster out, I sort of expected them to be doing an annual calendar by now filled with fools like this one. I'm sure all of their "four million" fools would buy it. Think of the bonus Wayne could get for that increase in revenue. Dang, I'm close to using profanity myself...

Such extreme desperation ...telling liberals they can copycat the disturbing GOP lead and go stick their heads in their own azzes en masse so that liberals too will have s_ _ t for brains. Obviously the "azz-hatters" have not come up with a cure for their terminal disease. . .and are seeking company in their deep misery. Kessler, w/GOP & Assoc. et al, could serve the nation and planet well by taking permanent vacations in active lava flows...thus participating in an admirable recycling effort. They too would benefit greatly ... the environmental education would be invaluable. . . Note: They would also do well to rename their party to...The Grand Old Chaos*. . . [*from the greek Khaos the "gaping void" before creation took place. . .]
Still believe John Dean covered this phenomena best:
"Authoritarianism is not well understood and seldom discussed in the context of American government and politics, yet it now constitutes the prevailing thinking and behavior among conservatives."
"Empirical studies reveal that authoritarians are frequently enemies of freedom, anti-democratic, anti-equality, highly prejudiced, mean-spirited, power hungry, Machiavellian, and amoral. They are also often conservatives without conscience."
“Social conservatism and neo-conservatism have revived authoritarian conservatism, and not for the better of conservatism or American democracy. True conservatism is cautious and prudent. Authoritarianism is rash and radical. American democracy has benefited from true conservatism, but authoritarianism offers potentially serious trouble for any democracy.”
"Today's conservatives - especially social conservatives, as opposed to intellectuals and the more thoughtful politicians - define themselves by what they oppose, which is anything and everything they perceive to be liberal. That category includes everyone from Democrats to anyone with whom they disagree, and can, therefore, automatically be labeled a liberal." ―John Wesley Dean, III, Fmr. White House Counsel to U.S. Pres. Richard Nixon
"Our 'neoconservatives' are neither new nor conservative, but old as Babylon and evil as Hell.” ― Edward Abbey

That is what I was thinking, Jim. The news banner did say "coal region news". I found this other youtube video from a different kind of cop ... he gets to the root of our issues ... why are people so violent in this country? ... in a "sane" way. Not sure if I agree with him on everything, but he does speak some truth. Here is the link if anyone wants to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbnwA1v_5No

But, tomcat, those virtues are just ANATHEMA to the GOPers: Decency, gentleness and tolerance. Can you imagine some dude walking up to John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, or the head of the RNC and saying "I wnat to run for office, because i want to bring decency, gentleness and, most of all, tolerance to American politics?"
He'd be labeled a Communist, immediately.
The message for these clowns comes from a very ancient source, brought to us by Care2, today:
"If you pursue good with labor, the labor passes away but the good remains; if you pursue evil with pleasure, the pleasure passes away and the evil remains."

Sock it to 'em Elle!
Jim P., that is just the kind of question that haunts me, too. I would have to guess the answer id that these were scared, people whose fear would bring them to vote for ANY authoritarian (as Elle points out) loud mouth, the louder the better, for them. Altogether known to me as #####$$&&***in idiots.

(Sorry if this double-posts - tried refreshing twice without seeing it show up...)
Posted before reading, silly me a few comments on a solid wall of good posts:
Chris C. - windbag - from one end or another - applies too!
Hi, tasunka m.,
I fear that I must venture to disagree with something you said.
The party that approves of people dying of curable illness/injury from lack of health care and wishes to prevent the less affluent from having any; the party that wishes to deny workers, jobs, a living wage and safety protections; the desperate, social programs; the starving, even food stamps; that promotes increased pollution and endless cetera - things that sicken/injure/kill millions - are, indeed, mass murderers and should be identified as such...
Elle B. - thanks for a particularly fabulous post!
Mitchel D. nailed it - as is typical with psychopaths, Republican despise all human virtues and delight in the pain of others...

Those close to this guy should call him out on his behavior. When they refuse to do the right thing they are nothing but enablers. Which means that he will be encouraged to do and say even more outrageous things.

I think one could easily make a case for locking this nutcase away in an institution for the criminally insane, and I think it needs to be done now! . . . and please throw away the key for everybody's safety.
Interestingly enough, this police chief of a small town (pop 762) in coal country Pennsylvania seems to have the mayor wrapped around his little finger — in my estimation, she is either afraid of him or just plain unintelligent. Here is more from Politicus USA Remove Chief Mark Kessler
Very scary idiot that will cause severe trouble before too long.

Found and signed everyone of those petitions, Jim. Thanks! I hope they do what they're supposed to even if this moron manages to get his 15 minutes on Faux Noise, he is not of the temperament required of a law enforcement officer. Not even in Barney Fifeville.
