Here is the sixteenth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Ted Cruz (R-TX), for his absurd statement on shutting down the federal government, in addition to being a master of TEAbuggery.

Well what scares me, is that they think they are the real Americans...The America I know and love does not include robe wearing, crazy racist ranting, and ignorant fools, who claim they love life and Jesus, yet want to starve the poor and old citizens of our Country and ensure the life of a Child before it's born, then doesn't want to give money to the babies Mother so she can fed, the Child, or get Health Care when the baby gets sick...The America they love and want to live in, I want no part of...

Speaks volumes when even the GOP Governors object and express concerns about how harmful it is. I wonder whether we are seeing a vocabulary shift before our eyes that Mirriam Webster will later confirm by added definitions of terms like when "bad" developed a new one that was a synonym for "good."

Let's see if your mother is an American citizen and you were born in Hawaii you are NOT eligible to run for President, but if your mother is an American citizen and you were born in Canada - well that is just peachy keen???? Every bad thing ever thought, joked or complaint registered about the down side of politics, has found a nesting place in Ted Cruz. That boy is just below the pond scum. Even his voice sounds like finger nails on a chalk board. The old stories about stealing from widows and orphans - that's no joke, it's Ted Cruz.

There are some stupid enough to follow this pied piper and they deserve exactly what he would give.

Pam, I think it's less about just the republican party and more about the congealing of radical Christians and the extreme right wingers that have taken over. This ain't your grandpa's Republican party.

This is CRAZY! That someone in the Democratic Party ... someone who has a LOT of power to command TV time and who might just act a bit indignant that our country is being stolen from us .... does not call these people out for who they truly are ... for what they are actually doing to this country ... without sarcasm ... without any joking ... without being Mr. Nice Guy ... ... in front of the entire Nation ... is absolutely INSANE. I am so sick of the lies that these people are ALLOWED to perpetuate. Yeah ... the government shuts down every weekend so it is no big deal if we just shut down, temporarily, the not really needed aspects of government. What a jerk! Yes ... let's cut out Congress completely and send them all packing. Obviously, we don't need them. And we certainly don't need to be paying them wages for doing nothing.

""Sen. Cruz is part of a few extreme people in the Senate when it comes to this subject. Calling for shutting down the government of the United States, even shutting down the American economy to make his political point, that’s not the right way to go," Durbin said on NBC's "Meet the Press.""

"…he asserted that the term "shut down is a misnomer; what it in fact is is a partial, temporary shut down" where "nonessential government functions are temporarily suspended…"

Well, the first place to start is with Congressional salaries. For all that Republicanus/Teabaggers accomplish and the money they waste (think Obamacare repeal votes amongst other things), they should be considered non-essential and therefore not paid. After all, where else can you work for 9 days in a month and get paid an exorbitant salary?

Cruz, and idiots of his ilk, have no understanding of the ramifications of a government shut down on global markets etc, let alone domestic markets. Or perhaps it is better said that they know but they don't give a rat's ass!

And this idea of not funding Obamacare is, in my mind seditious because it is the law of the land and such actions encourage open revolt on both sides. But then, when has that ever mattered to these thugs?

Cruz Out-of-Control!

I am beginning to think Republican really means anarchist except when needing to have a large military and ability to destroy....people, the country, the world......

So many good comments!
thank you TomCat.
But, you know, Dave, they do not want anarchy, they want Plutocracy, Government of the rich, by the rich, for the rich, and screw the rest of you.
Oh, and by the way, once we have that, we'll create our own American Theocracy, and tell you how THIS is what the Bible was really all about.

Going back and looking at how this Government and our elected representatives have acted since it's inception, I am amazed that the people have not had not more than the one civil war. But then, the Civil War was over economics and not really human rights. Though that is what it'll be remembered for.

I sent a star to Michael Carney, I think he is exactly right. I also think that Cruz, along with Mitch and Michelle, is an idiot. I worry about the people who have the mentality to vote for these clowns.

From my latest lesson in American politics through your postings, TomCat, I0ve now learned that America takes it weekend bloody serious, it actually shuts down government during the weekend because... well, its weekend I suppose.
I think Cruz' statement is very true... certainly for the Republican part of the government. And now they're on holiday, which is also a little longer than the average American's I'm led to believe.

I'd love a job in your government: without doubt well paid, a few days a week, a few weeks a year, doing whatever you like, no responsibility and not accountable to anyone and above all not giving a **it about what the people who voted you in would like you to do, least of all what the majority would like you to do.

Thanks all.

Republicans love vacation so much that GW Bush stated ob vacation in TX three days, instead of attending to New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina.
