Here is the twenty-third article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), aka Bought Bitch Mitch. He is being honored for a pile of BS deep enough to drown every race horse in Kentucky.

The video of Chris Hayes' program tells it loud and clear: Mitch McConnell is a hypocrite and a liar. And this is just a start, because Chris Hayes concentrated on the Violence Against Women Act, which McConnell has made part of his new campaign to lure women voters. And the worst thing is, the voters may hear about this, but they'll ignore it, won't believe it or just don't care.

Scary as it is, most voters (around the world) make a choice on first impressions and personal attraction or just go along with what family, friends and (church) community say. Only very few actually take an interest in WHAT the politician has to say and what his record is.

I caught this when Chris Hayes presented it, and I'm not surprised. Lona is correct in saying most voters will just vote for the name they recognize or the person supported by their pastor and other church members.

Mitch is facing a re-election challenge in the form of a bright young woman, also a republican but with some new ideas about how to handle this Senate chair. Currently, she seems to be a moderate and one must wonder if a moderate can actually win an election.

I hope the voters look just at the one issue of blatant and uncompromising lies, if McConnell had his way there would still be no renewal of the VAWA. That alone should hold his lying feet to the fire.
Thanks TC

This reminds me of the turtle we saw today trying to cross the road - we moved him to safety just before a big semi came barreling down the road. If Mitch Turtle were crossing the road, I'd surely hesitate when the semi came....

Mitch McConnell is the WORST of them all! Let's hope the KY voters are as tired of his BS as we all are! I have a feeling he's on the way out! Without his obstructionism, the USA could've done so much more for the people of this country! He doesn't deserve re-election!

Mitch goes with the tea bagger flow. It's good to watch their party disintegrate before our eyes.

Vote every republican out of office in every state at every opportunity.

McConnell accused Grimes of adopting “the Barack Obama playbook to try to divide people with gender based attacks. We have seen that all too often and some of it has started already. But look, this campaign is about what kind of America do we want to have and what kind of Kentucky do we want to have.”

In my opinion, be it ever so humble, McTurtle does not show commitment to the kind of America and the kind of Kentucky that voters need and want. In fact, he shows no tangible indication that he even knows what the voters want. He is too wrapped up in Republicanus/Teabagger rhetoric and deceipt!

McTurtle, you can RUN for office again, but you cannot HIDE from your record! Tell us again how you have supported women with your vote! If anyone is trying to divide people, it is McTurtle with his lies!

In 2014 and beyond, the only good Republicanus/Teabagger is an unemployed Republicanus/Teabagger!

@ Kit --- "Mitch is facing a re-election challenge in the form of a bright young woman, also a republican ..." Alison Lundergan Grimes is the favoured Democrat candidate and the current Secretary of State for Kentucky, while Matt Bevin is the Teabagger that is most likely to give McTurtle a run for his money in the Republicanus/Teabagger primary.

I doubt that Mr. McConnell would ever have been re-elected if people truly had paid attention to his shenanigans. Unfortunately, most people are too busy trying to live their lives and keep their heads above water to devote a lot of time to politics, and thus men like McConnell continue to make people's lives worse while themselves reaping great benefits.

"Mitch McConnell’s re-election campaign is touting his support for the Violence Against Women Act — even though the Republican Senate minority leader has a consistent record of voting against the anti-domestic violence legislation."

I saw this somewhere else and was just flabbergasted. This sob is actually taking credit for something he has NEVER supported. And no one calls him on it? It is just okay to flat out lie? I mean, I know politics is a dirty business having read just a bit of Mark Twain and Will Rogers, and well, the newspaper all of my life, but gawd. It isn't like the "good guys" don't get caught with their pants down sometimes too, but the gop makes a freaking business practice of it, saying one thing and doing another, with no shame whatsoever. These are supposed to be the religious ones and they have 10 simple rules to follow but can't even manage them. Thous shalt not bear false witness. Maybe it is the arcane language that confuses them? It actually means, DO NOT LIE. Ever. Tell the truth all the time to everyone. You may not be liked but you will be at least honest and that counts for something, or should.

This actually is part of a rant I've had going on in an email exchange. Someone sent me this:

"Just thought you should know...

The year was 1947. Some of you will recall that on July 8, 1947, a little more than 65 years ago, numerous witnesses claim that an Unidentified Flying Object, (UFO), with five aliens aboard, crashed onto a sheep and mule ranch just outside
Roswell, New Mexico .

This is a well-known incident that many say has long been covered-up by the U.S. Air Force, as well as other Federal Agencies and Organizations .

However, what you may NOT know is that in the month of April, year 1948, nine months after the historic day, the following people were born:

Barack Obama Sr.
Albert A. Gore, Jr.
Hilary Rodham
William J. Clinton
John F. Kerry
Howard Dean
Nancy Pelosi
Dianne Feinstein
Charles E. Schumer
Barbara Boxer
Joe Biden "

Now, I wasn't born yesterday, in fact I was born in 1949, and I KNEW a lot of those people were a LOT older than me. So I checked the actual birth dates, not ONE was born in April 1948, Al Gore came close at 3/31/48, but the range on the others began with 1932. And, if you can believe it, a flame war started over this piece of nonsense. Obviously someone thought it would be funny to imply all those Democrats were of alien birth. It was so obviously a joke, that I was amazed at the number of people who got VERY angry when I pointed out the actual birth dates. It is like they don't even want their lies challenged.

What a world we live in. Everyone lies to everyone else all the time. Okay not everyone, but a lot of people do and the trouble that has caused through history is staggering. If everyone told the truth all the time to everyone, there'd be no lies to have to remember, the truth would set us free and we could actually do something about the real problems we face instead of fact-checking every thing everyone says because not enough people from country size to individual is telling the truth. About anything.

You can take any instance and see how horribly things can go wrong from a single lie. Syria. Someone loose ricin gas on the Syrian public. No one is admitting the truth. About who did it, where they got it, what the consequences are, who to fight with about it. We are now saying, I read, that if America does NOT kill some Syrians over this, then other terrorists will realize that, they too can gas people with impunity. THAT is the reason we are going to bomb Syria weeks after the fact. Though we stand virtually alone in this. And it is all because first someone did a horrible thing and since everyone, everywhere has lied about it. In the grand scheme of things? Mitch is a liar. And should be whipped soundly in his campaign for who he is. But who he is, is a microcosm of what the world is. Al Franken, one of my Senators, wrote a book called, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. But he was only talking about Faux noise for the most part, when in truth, the title covers the entire freaking world. What a mess humanity is. Or at least a lot of it. Is that Ice Age here yet? Because, I'm thinking we are beyond hope.
