If the Republican leadership follows their current path, the US government will shut down on Monday night at Midnight EDT. Like spoiled brats, it they can’t have their way, despite heavy opposition from the American people, they will resort to terrorism and harm the people we pay them to represent. They are saying that Obama and the Democrats are at fault, but that’s a lie. Neither Democrats nor Obama are at fault for the poison pill they put in their continuing resolution (CR).

There are plenty of republicans who will suffer during the shutdown. Don't forget they talk a big talk but they don't walk a good walk.

Please God the GOP/TP cave – they are only making their own ludicrous situation worse – and hurting innocents. Don't they realise that those they are hurting will realise that it is the GOP/TP who are responsible and will hate them forever? It seems to me that all the GOP/TP are brainwashed – they cannot hear anything but their own programming.

Hours to go and they are still saying it will be Obama's fault and their sheeple are believing that to be true. With the Senate convening later today I hope they shove it back to Congress and then Agent Orange will be on the ropes from both the few sane rethugs and the teatards. Reminds me of a sinking ship, think Titanic, with Cruz at the front, at least that how I'd like to have it end.

Terrie Williams (763)

Teatards.....I like that word.!!!!!

I'd like to know just how many American Teatard Fascist lemmings have called their offices and demanded a shutdown.......a 'majority'.....I seriously, SERIOUSLY doubt that lie.

Trying to brainwash the rest of the public with the usual lie that it's all Obama (the half-black man) and the Democrats fault is not flying this time and they surely must know that. We ain't buying that hog, Agent Orange Boner.

I read on HuffPost that the House could vote on a clean bill (no riders) when it comes down from the Senate (hopefully that way, clean!) and it COULD all be over – WHEN that would happen they didn't say.

Having been educated well these past few months, I've been trying to explain what's happening in congress to my husband... and failed miserably. The whole idea of one or two parties holding a budget hostage and letting democracy of an entire country fall flat on its face is so alien to us, we just can't grasp it. If this would happen in any European country the government would topple and new elections would be next. It is a far from perfect system, but the chance that a country is held hostage by a few extremists who try to undo a law that is already passed and kick democracy in the family jewels at the same time is negligible.

Yes, these T-publicans are the lunatics running amok in the House of Representatives. They need to be removed from their seats at first opportunity before the achieve their goal of destroying this country and all of us with it. They didn't arm themselves to the hilt without reason. They are just playground bullies and we are their victims. They despise us so much that they don't even want us to have Health Care. What kind of people does it take to do that to us? They think we should just die and not be able to have medical attention when we are sick? What a disgusting bunch of worms. (sorry worms, I know you are better than them)

I am amazed that this sort of thing can happen and Repug voters can't see through them. I mean, how graphic can you get that the GOP prefers shutting down the government to not getting their way. They are traitors of the worst kind. They are stupid, selfish, and dangerous. It's about time they were cast aside like so much garbage and some of the decent independent candidates given a chance.

The Repugs are on a VERY slippery slope!
My friends and I are on the same Medicare supplement plan. We are a mixed bunch politically. My best friend is a staunch REPUG. THis morning we all got a letter that our UHC pol was being discontinued and we had to pick new ins. She said she wished the government would stay out of our lives...I just laughed and said "Honey, without the gov't, you wouldn't even be getting Medicare OR your SS benefits!!! She didn't say much after that!

Imbreeding at its finest. See what happens when the gene pool is super shallow?
Treason and terror, and they call the Islamic terrorists bad?! The Teapublicans must suffer worse than the poorest people living in the States. Soon too they will be keeping company with them because they screwed themselves into the wall. Bring back the stocks and shakles so we can throw these idiots into the dungeons of hell which is where they will be for committing treason against the government of the USA and the President whom is their target anyhow because they vowed to ensure his failure as President.
Please feel free to hop on one foot when you begin shooting yourselves. With any hope the Republicans will be so dishevled and so disorganized they will not have a hope in hell of even running in the next federal election.
Thanks from the rest of the world for making yourselves look like the idiots we all knew you are! SEE YA!

Quite a few Republicans seem to be in politics mostly for their own entertainment. Given they treat America as their play-thing, and perhaps Republican voters have mistaken their cavalier attitude to it as a refreshing informality that humanises serious men who have a profound sense of duty that they can crap on the poor from ever greater heights. I suspect America has not shaken off a deference that borders on masochism, and which allows Republicans to hold a country to ransom over something that would benefit so many people. Still, t seems a shallow observation, but… the Republicans senators and congressmen are not an attractive lot, are they? I mean, if all those people were born in the same village, you'd blame pollution, wouldn't you?

There are a lot of hateful comments and personal attacks here. How about looking at the legislation? If legislation comes up that is unconstitutional, the people who block said legislation are patriots. It is not constitutional to mandate that all of us participate in something involuntarily. This was intended to be a free country.

The problem is that health insurance and care cost too much in this country because of the way big pharmaceutical companies and regulators are so "involved" in it. Talk to a doctor or hospital employee about all the pressure on them and the red tape involved with a simple procedure these days. If you travel to a country like Mexico or Thailand for a surgery instead, you pay much less. This means the problem is where you are having the surgery, not the real cost of the surgery itself. This legislation does not address the underlying problem, it just serves to further centralize power and control (which has been proven time and time again to be a bad thing.)

Between John Boehner's dithering and Ted Cruz blathering there is no chance we will find a compromise before midnight. It does irritate them that Obama care (ACA) is fully constitutional and has passed the final acid test of the Supreme Court. If that were the only thing attached to this bill, it alone would be enough to have the Senate reject it, but no there is so much more. The demands are completely unconscionable:

Prevent women from insured access to birth control
The Keystone Pipeline
Removing all regulations on banking and energy companies
End the consumer protection laws

The list is long and it is a complete anathema to the majority of the American people.

I hate to see a shut-down but have read that the republicans believe that by shutting down the government they will force Obama to concede to all of their demands.

"The only personal attacks here are toward public citizens, politicians are by their own choice open game. I do not see republicans or the tea bags ever showing an inkling of respect toward our president. " So, that makes it right, Kit? Stooping to such a low level?

Something else that bears considering is the wall we will all be hitting when all our government's borrowing days come to an end. We are all liable for what they do, and the massive amount owed to other countries. Why should the debt ceiling be raised? So that we owe even more and so that everything in this country will eventually be owned by foreigners? Remember what happened to Germany when they were made to pay what other countries were owed after World War I. There is no magic pile of money for us to draw from to give everyone free stuff. Borrowing has consequences. It just doesn't seem like it because the U.S. credit card hasn't been declined yet.

Sara, if the law is unconstitutional?
Well, then, what about ALL the unconstitutional laws passed to block voting rights, abortion rights, gay marriage, and so on, by these very same patriots.
they are fighting Obamacare only because the GOP is still owned by the Insurance industry, and then there is big Pharma.
For whom do you really think Medicare Part D was really passed, certainly not for that congressman's grandmother...but for the big Pharma folks...who gave him a 3.2 million $ sign-on bonus when he left congress for a job in big Pharma.
These people do not give a rotten rat's ass for the constitution, just follow the money.

Yes, I most certainly agree we must vote Republicans out of office.
But, on the lighter note, I just went back to school, Penn Foster Career College. Did you, TomCat, know that there is some one there that has an avatar that looks just like yours??? I accidently ran across the person once, but could not re-find them.

In reading the list of some of the federal employees and others that would be affected by the shut down, I notice there was no mention of politicians and political staffers. Tut! Tut! So much for leading by example. Those that create the problems not subject to the effects of their actions? Well I think that it is time for these politicians to put their wallets where their mouth is!

I like the idea presented in the following Care2 petition: Petition: Amend the 27th Amendment

Introduction. The primary function of Congress is to create and approve the Budget for the United States Government. Therefore, the members of Congress from the Several States have not earned their salaries until and unless there is a functioning budget for the United States. So be it Resolved that the 27th Amendment to this Constitution is Amended as follows:

Article 1. On October 1 of every year, or other date as amended by Statute, if a Budget for the Government of the United States has not been approved by the Congress and signed by the President, the following effects are automatically triggered:

A.) All Congressional salaries are suspended until such a Budget has been approved by Congress and signed by the President.

B) The Salaries of all Congressional and Congressional Committee staffs shall be halved until such a Budget is approved.

C) Congress Shall Not Recess nor take up any other Business untill such a Budget shall have been approved.

Article 2. In the Absence of Such Budget, the President shall have the authority to:

A) Continue all functions of Government as He or She shall deem Necessary and Proper until such a Budget is sent to His or Her Office for Signature or Veto.

B) If the President shall Veto such a Budget submitted by Congress, the Salary of the President and all Cabinet officers Shall be Suspended until such a Budget shall have been passed over the Presidential Veto or a different Budget acceptable to the President shall have been signed.

Article 3. This proposed Amendment shall not expire until and shall be available to the Legislatures or Constitutional Conventions of the Several States until Ratified.

In business, compensation is supposed to be on a meritocratic basis. Well I sure don't see anything meritorious in the actions of politicians who hold the nation hostage, like common criminals, terrorists to be sure, and all for their own benefit. To paraphrase an expression from the French Revolution, "Off with their wallets!"

And as to the term "Republican leadership", that is an oxymoron if ever there was one. Boehner can't control his own rabid caucus.

Sara V. the Debt Ceiling needs to be raised to pay for bills our country has already incurred or rung up. Raising the Debt Ceiling is NOT for new or future bills. Payment is due for the Iraq War. It's not like that is paid off and it sure wasn't free. If you have a credit card and get monthly statements, you would notice there is interest tacked on. Spending trillions on the Iraq War means billions in interest. Remember, the warning that our grandchildren would still be paying off the Iraqi War...We have just begun.

Now the GOP Deadbeat Party refuses to pay their bills for the war that they wanted. That IS the majority of the debt. Remember Dick Cheney said deficits do not matter. Well, he means it doesn't matter when the GOP is in charge and they spend like it's a whirlwind spending spree and leave a mess for the Dems to clean up.

Roseann D. (178)
Monday September 30, 2013, 9:58 pm
Yep, we've all earned the right to call the GOP and TeaBaggers *sswipes. The government shutdown will add billions to the deficit and lower our credit rating resulting in higher interests. So much for the Bags claims to be fiscally conservative. NOT! But they are *sswipes!

Thanks to all but one and kudos to a whole bunch.

Sara V. Thou shalt not commit TEAbuggery!! ;-) Seriously, your "facts" are based on well debunked Republican lies. The Republican dominated Supreme Court has found that ObamaCare IS Constitutional, and the deficit is the lowest percentage of GDP that it has been since Clinton balanced the budget. The Debt Limit needs to be raised to pay the bills for what this Republican House already spent.

Sara/ That's another issue. Meaning.. I don't care what remedy is applied the greedy always find a way to within that system; find away to cheat the people and yet increase their profits. But we are talking about holding the country hostage over things already resolved.

My beef is this party for 5 years straight.. at least, has held this country hostage ands we are reeling from it..
No one is interested in giving up any guns under these conditions, ever.

Not only that; civil war may have to happen, to get relief from this bunch. Because there are NO laws that can put them in check. The are like a runaway train and a wild bull or a horse with no bit in it's mouth.

States can't make their budgets; making do with less to do more. Things falling down cause they can't afford to keep repairs up or have he right amount of staff. Things slipping thru he cracks and resulting in lawsuits.
Schemes to cheat people out of their due and benefits. then with the streamlining.. re funneling those monies to their pet projects.. while those put out suffer.
Then ..that has it's own domino affect.
Government cutbacks increases crime and makes more have-nots and murders, home invasion, thefts of the elderly and break ins in the homes of the rich, or anybody. That makes me angry.

I am really pissed.. Corporate media wants a compromise. Of course they do. Gov. Christie says if it were him he'd flex his muscle.
How charming. what he means is cave. again so this can go away. I remember how he fought for Katrina funds for his..
People fight for where their interest are. Politicians fight for their next election win. May the rich man win; cause who is fighting for the 98% of us to win?

Republicans and supporters have no vision to know that what they won't do is hurting this country. It is hurting Americans..
I have had enough of Obama caving and giving our stuff away and people wanting him to cave continually while they live fat off the hog and talk crazy to the press and insult our intelligence.

They didn't correct anything from the sequester and now right back here with this. Time for a voodoo dolls. I say this in jest but I am pissed.

Another thing; we talk about our "Great" America but we don't budget as if we are great... We act just like what we are.. bumbling idiots looking for the next war and some young people to fight them. anything having to do with life and civilization is; foreign unknown un teachable .. language. Our word don't mean a thing and we are not dependable. Ask the Republicans; they are the ring leaders. No.. they are the RINGMASTERS..
