I'm not American, but nothing stopped me from answering the questions to find out where I would be placed. And guess what; I ended up in the exact same spot as you did, TomCat. That was unexpected, wasn't it? ;-)
However, I rather object to being called a bleeding heart, it is not the same as being compassionate. And I would never call myself a liberal. On the Dutch scales the Republicans are liberals or rightist, the Democrats would be in the Dutch Centre (in the past two decades we have seen a general shift to the right as most western countries have) and you and I would be socialist/socio-democrats and leftists.

By now it has become clear that for your government it is back to business as usual until January 15, which means that the Republicans/Teabaggers are blocking and blaming Obama again and in the meantime will try to out-scream and out-lie everyone in the hope that much of the blame gets diverted. They will also use the time to regroup and come up with plan B to make the next shut down and default unavoidable but this time with Obama to take all the blame. So the house better get cracking and get amendment 368 repealed.

The world is far from convinced it is all over, that it is not such a victory for the Democrats as they make it out to be, and that everything will start from scratch again. So one Chinese credit evaluator has already taken America's credit status a notch down. We'll have to see if others follow in the next few weeks.

Excuse me, is this where the "bleeding hearts" meet? :) How utterly crooked for the teabagging republicans to slip in a rule to override the ability of any congressman to call for a vote. They certainly do not represent the true idea of a Fair Democracy.

We bleeding hearts are only 10%? Can't be so. At least we are in good company. And I have one of those pieces of crap that goose-stepped with the others... I will be letting him know that's just what he is....

I took that test yesterday. Didn't need to. I already know that I am a bleeding heart Liberal and proud of it.

Another bleeding heart liberal here. Interesting though, because I don't consider myself that far to the left generally. But the alternative answers which I didn't choose reminded me that the more extreme that the conservative right has gotten, the more firmly liberal I have become. So am wearing the bleeding heart label with pride!

Have you noticed how often when you want to write to a rep or senator, you can't because you are not in their district? (of course, I just find their zip code and write anyway) Doesn't it seem that if they get taxpayer money from all of us, they should be open to comment from all of us?

I took that test on Facebook and of course my heart bleeds, what a surprise. I posted Andy again yesterday and his take on Rand Paul is so funny I may have choked, the Onion's take on a busted sewer pipe in Congress did make me spew my coffee. Feces, urine and used TP on Ted Cruz and it's not even a stretch to create that mental image. When we stopped laughing at the absurdities then we are in real trouble. If Congress is not absurd than nothing is, so yeah, Congress is absurd.

As much as we do not like career politicians, just look at what we have now with these "new kids on the block" they haven't a clue about how a government functions.

God bless Congressman Van Hollen – fascinating clip – he got the weaselly Chair to admit it several times (even though he didn't want to) that they had changed the rules and only the Speaker or his designate could end the shut-down. Bunch of ….. well I know some choice phrases in French that describe them – and any one of them would send those sad apologies for humanity home crying for their mothers!

How on earth did they manage to do this without a vote in the whole house with everyone being present? They have already shown us that they have the practice of gerrymandering down to a fine art – but this gross undermining of democracy is quite shocking!

loved the quiz, love being in the minority 10%..."bleeding heart liberals"... Chris Van Hollen is great!

Huh. "Bleeding heart liberal'? I can live with it, I've been called worse. I'd rather be a 'bleeding heart liberal' than, say, a brain-dead son of a TeaBagger.

I'd hate it if blood didn't exit my heart--and that would prevent brain oxygenation, too. Very different description of "middle" than in past periods of history (remember the descriptor "middle of the road?"). What I found most illuminating was how the "middle" self-perception of political identity differed from the results of their position. making me curious whether it is a problem with the scale or the result of misinformation/disinformation of what the Tea Party/ conservatives and/or liberals beliefs and policy positions are.

Over 6 minutes, but I got a phone call while solving which I needed to take.

100% certified bleeding heart. But I think of myself as a Progressive rather than a Liberal.

With reference to a previous Andy, I feel there is something to be said for large birds of prey which fly off with their victims, disembowel them alive in mid air, and then drop them.

Yes, guess I'm in the 10% of the bleeding hearts, though I agree with Lona; it would be more appropriate to call it compassionate. And if we all end up there, it must be much more than 10%. Loved the cartoon. Rep Chris Van Hollen was excellent. Made it very clear who screwed us and put us on the downhill slide. And what a pretty kitty. Always enjoy your posts. Thanks, TomCat.

Puzzle — 3:13 Pussy cat, pussy cat, I love you, yes I do!

Esquire — Damned if I am not a flaming bluer than blue liberal bleeding heart! I am not in the New American Centre and not because I am a Canuck!

Upworthy — Talk about Teabuggery! Talk about manufacturing a crisis to suit ideological purposes and engineering its continuatiion. Talk about forethought and planning. If ever there was evidence of the seditious intent of the Republicanus/Teabaggers, this is some of it.

The New Yorker — Well, I'll agree with AB's Rand Paul on this part of his statement:

“Sometimes, you have to put politics aside when there is something more important at stake, … "

However I disagree with the second part:

"…and I think any reasonable person would agree that there is nothing more important than getting to the bottom of Benghazi." It should read:

"… and I think any reasonable person would agree that there is nothing more important than getting the government opened up and the debt ceiling raised so that the American people can try to return to sanity."

Cartoon — Well looky there . . . it's the innerds of a Republicanus/Teabagger . . . a toxic waste dump!

@ Lona --- Like you, I am more left than Canada's Liberal party which is centre left. I am a New Democrat, a social democrat. The American far right like to call us socialists or even communists. Over used terms. Joe McCarthy is still alive and well in some places. Somebody needs to tell the US far right that the cold war is over and Joe McCarthy is dead!

Thanks every one. If they called one end "bleeding heart liberal", they should have called the other end "brain dead goose-stepper".
