Congress members spent money raised on paying their families for this that and the other – well colour me surprised! NEPOTISM openly and blatently – but that is merely the tip fo the iceberg. How about when $$arah Palin was given money by McCain to improve her appearance and she and her family got through I think $180,000 in about a day – there was a link to it at the Huff Post but though the link is there still my computer won't go there.

I knew that fast food sellers were underpaying their employees who worked hard in bad conditions for less than a living wage – but I didn't know it cost American taxpayers SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR! All so the multimillionaire owners can put that money they didn't pay their employees into their pockets. Vote against the GOP and reduce your taxes!

CREW report: While I knew that this was going on, the millions of $$$$ that "All in the Family" gets is astounding! UpWorthy: Very, very sad, as these workers are working and scrimping for their families, while the rich get richer. Cartoon: I agree wholeheartedly on that.!! I hope that your meditation and prayers are answered at the CEO today, I'm still in the back pew praying. Have a great day, Tom, and thanks.!!

While 60 Minutes is not quite as hard hitting in uncovering corruption and malfeasance as it once was known for, this story is well worth unveiling. Hopefully it will help momentum from the public to pressure Congress to get enough to change their tune (or risk losing elections) on ethics and campaign reform issues.

The way I understand it, open and blatant NEPOTISM and other abuse of the taxpayers dollars by congress is going to continue, because the majority is guilty of it and so know changes to this system are ever going to get enough votes. Even when you vote all Republicans out of congress, the Democrats are so deep into it that it's against their own interest to change it. Nice how democracy works, huh? These are the days that I can appreciate my own government just a teensy bit more. Not much, though, I'm disgusted with their incompetence to do anything about our economical crisis which is mostly self-inflicted through far too much austerity, but besides a few integrity hiccups which are microscopical compared to yours, I cant be dissatisfied about (non-political) integrity and honesty.

Question: Can Cruz and the rest of the Teangelists even read modern-day English or do they need a translation to biblical English with lots of Thou?

And you thought that fast food was cheap food, did you? Not if you add-up everything it costs to sell it. I hope the fast food sellers don't give their employees and their families an All-you-can-eat ticket instead of a raise, because besides poor they will also be dead soon.

Excuse the myriad of spelling mistakes and typos: so NO (not know) changes to this system, for instance

About the only way to stop this is term limits and banning super PACs and above all we need campaign finance reform with STRICT regulations. If you look at the voting records you will find that nearly all Republicans vote against it and most Democrats vote for it.

"Now that the government shutdown is over, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) plans to read the Affordable Care Act, he told reporters today.
“It’s definitely been on my must-read list for a while now,” Sen. Cruz said of the law often referred to as Obamacare. “Things have just been so hectic around here lately, I couldn’t get to it.”
The Texas Senator said that he started reading the law this morning and observed, “So far, it’s pretty dry.”

Giving speech after speech against it, willing to shut down the government over it, willing to have the US default on its moral obligations to the world over it and the damn fool has NO effing idea what is IN it? Can someone from Texas, please save this story for that damn fool's next campaign? No, he wouldn't be the only one to have done so. I know both of mine have. Amy Klobuchar is a brilliant young woman who donated her Senate salary to the NIH during the shutdown and Al Franken, despite his comedic background, is also a highly educated man. There are many who know what is in it. That the simpletons who comprise the right wing don't, isn't surprising. What is surprising is the sheer stupidity to NOW admit that after all that puffery, all that hand wringing, the moron didn't have a freaking clue as to what he was talking about. So, then? Why the opposition? Could it be as simple as ideology over reason? This is, after all, the Republican's law, the one Romney implemented in Massachusetts. Are these dummies really prepared to admit they opposed it only because it was passed into law by democrats? And so stupid not to know just how really flipping stupid they sound? I always thought dumb as a box of rocks a bit of hyperbole, but I'm afraid, I think now, there are people in our government, in leadership roles, who are too dumb to remember to breathe on their own. Amazing, simply astoundingly amazing.

Doesn't Ted Cruz's failure to read the ACA just say it all? Cruz and his half-wit compatriots are finding it hectic opposing a law they don't understand, and dang, it's hard work trying to bring down the economy, throwing a giant fit over it.

We need to revisit the 1989 the Ethics Reform Act, and remove the Leadership PACS loophole. Nothing is going to change in Washington until we take action to eliminate the set-up for corruption that is destroying our system. Corporate welfare such as that McDonald's enjoys will continue to be the rule of the day.

If figures that Ted Cruz would wait until now to read what he's been against all this time. He obviously has no idea what he's doing. Now we just need to wonder if he'll understand what he's reading. As for our tax dollars going to feed and help those who are on public assistance; this is what the rabid Right has been fighting about for years, but they do nothing to help people get off assistance except try to cut the assistance. Like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Just crazy.... Thanks for the post, TomCat.

Puzzle — 4:11 No rose hip tea for me today.

Crew — Nepotism at the best of times is a fool's errand. In politics, it should be illegal. Were I a donor, I would be very annoyed and then some if my money were used so. Let family volunteer their time.

The New Yorker — I remember making a comment about a year ago regarding representatives and senators reading the bills they debate and being told that at best, it is trusted assistant(s) that read the bills. Question: So who really is my representative — the one who was elected or the assistant? How can anyone effectively debate the contents of a bill if they have not read it? At best a representative who has not read a bill is getting predigestive bites, not the real deal.

Upworthy — A living wage with benefits. That is all anybody asks for. It should not be too much to ask. With wages at the current low levels and employees forced to seek assistance, perhaps what should happen is a "special tax" levied against McDonald's, Walfart etc etc which is calculated based on the difference between the average wage for hourly non management employees and a living wage. That money could then be put directly into the SNAP programme etc. One way or the other, companies should be paying a living wage and not soaking the taxpayer. This is another face of corporate welfare.

Cartoon — Isn't HUAC alive and well living in the Republicanus/Teabagger ranks and showing up in some of Issa's hearings? I'll bet Republicanus/Teabaggers would love to have "Low-blow Joe" McCarthy back with his Red Scare and Lavender Scare rhetoric! He was before his time.

Congress needs to raise the min. wage to a "living" wage level. Fast food employers/corporations make huge profit. They could be paying a living wage....but...no..it would cut into that profit ! And, we know they just don't make enough profit ! God forbid we should deny them more $$$$. I guess they think the only people who need food(?) are their customers.

Excellent post, Tom!....(if you want to move to Washington, my "nicest" apartment is opening up at the end of the month!!..close to bus, mall, vets, hosp, park...least rent and no-more yahoos allowed and I have turned over half the property..no more heroin, crack, crystal meth..all gone!..but..the "civil war" between the 3 1/2 oldtimers..my age! just sit home , get high and drunk , everyday, all day..but just pot..and now HAVE GONE INTO BIG BUSINESS..and one of them, ..I got rid of 3 of their crack- head kids, (he said ,"Great! Thankyou!"..but girlfriend across the street(her family...oooh!PO)...oh, but now just pot!
I will defend all rights, with respect to all peoples..especially where you live..........well, now it is fall, getting cold, so doors and windows closed..(I did not wake up with my bedroom full of skunkweed, because of my neighbor and my window open, and the owner's coming in 2 hours to pickup rent , for 1 1/2 months!...So, I am going to FIGHT AND DEFEND A CIVIL WAR!!!!
these people are bored out of their minds..they need to work....(and if there were JOBS, I woulds be so petitioning my State Gov as well as our Feds...but there aren't any jobs;.. they have worked the system....and I would never hire them myself...they have been druggies for 20 years, think they own everything and everyone......until 5 months ago...I started enacting and upholding the common sense and common good policies of our rental agreements...the "bad guys" don't like me!.......I DON'T CARE!!!I WORK FOR THE GOOD GUYS!!!= US!!!.....POINT IS=OUR GOV NEEDS AS MUCH "GUTS" AS I AM SHOWING, ..I am and have restored a small community, by working with other managers, people , the kids, some parents, the police...and the only civil war on my property, (THIS IS WASHINGTON!=NEW, NOT ESTABLISHED POT LAWS)..BUT THE OLD-TIMERS ARE /HAVE DECLARED war ON ME, BECAUSE I TOLD THEM, "sIT INSIDE AND CLOSE THOSE WINDOWS WHEN YOU ARE SMOKING YOUR POT..YOU MUST BE RESPECTFUL OF OTHERS."..."f>>>y>>b>>>>!"....1 ASSAULT, 2 ATTEMTED ASSAULTS................
so what is so different, in our government,..the house teaparty bullys and these stupid old people that still live here (because, I haven't given them bullies, their 20 day notice/ no-cause to vacate..yet..because I am truly afraid...of their violence towards me and mine,......the gov and my life smacks of the same........I really need to grow some "girl-balls"...I am working on it.....(oh , doesn't that sound familiar!)
