Once upon a time, the citizens of North Carolina enjoyed the benefits their state had to offer, but they believed Republican lies and allowed their state to be overthrown. It is now the Totalitarian Racist Plutocracy of McCrorystan, led by TEAfuhrer Pat McCrory. In typical Republican fashion, the TEAfuhrer has harmed residents with his corruption, but a federal investigation is giving him a pain in the ash, more precisely, the coal ash.

Thanks for the post Tom.
Great article from Raw Story by Mr. Ferguson, along with the great segment from Rachel.exposing Gov. Pat McCrory ties with Duke Energy. I hope the Federal grand jury probe bear fruit.

Well, for one thing, we here in Minnesota are well acquainted with the "where did you tow my car" issue. Happens after every storm in the two big cities, despite warnings of every kind, people somehow seem to think they didn't apply to their car. Both cities claim this is a money losing operation, but I'm pretty sure it is a line item somewhere in their revenue budget stream and I darn sure know it is in the towing companies as they circle like modern day mechanical vultures waiting for the moment to arrive when they can pounce.

As for North Carolina, well, this is what happens when you elect a republican governor. It is to be expected as certainly as car towing here that sometime during that governor's term of office, a scandal of this kind will erupt. Not all resulting in federal criminal cases, no, but many, and many go beneath the radar. I fully expect issues like this to dominate state gubernatorial races this fall as all those 2010 Tea Party republican governors are up for re-election. Citizens of those states know by now just what kind of people they put in power and in many of them I am thinking the Tea Party has worn out its welcome. Drinking from the river is safe, but don't touch it, don't eat fish caught in it. Uh huh. Sounds like they've got it all under control doesn't it? This will be interesting to watch unfold, as it will across the nation, this summer and fall. I hope they all get what is coming to them and that is NOT short stretches at federal camps for white collar criminals. They've earned real time, let them do it. Could be a new reality show - Tea Party governors in Lock down. Might even run on the weekends on MSNBC.

And the tea party thinks that the world is only 6000 years old and was "created" in six days.
nothing about them surprises me after that retarded statement, no offense to truly retarded people, I have worked with them for charity .

As usual Rachel doesn't beat about the bush. First she tells her audience that he's been subpoenaed by the Feds, something he deliberately tried to keep out of the press, then she warns McCrory that reporters around the state of North Carolina are going to keep looking into this and how he handles things in his new job where he is positioned to do way more for Duke Energy than what he could do when he worked there directly. Which of course means she'll be hot on his tail too to make sure he gets what he is due.

She'll make sure that he's one of the first guests in your reality show federal camp for white collar criminals, Gene! PIGnocchio is warming up on the sideline and many more GOPers and Teabaggers are on our list.

"Tea Party Governors in Lockdown!" Yes, that could be a long running show with lots of profiles to feature. However, I'm not so sure about the ratings as we normal people are all pretty sick of the entire Tea Party bit.
We might have to call it "Blatant Fools Who Should Never have been Elected to Office in the First Place.

Good piece by Ms. Maddow, and I hope this subpoena does justice for the citizens of NC. What a horrible thing to happen to this river.!!! I hope that McCrory/Duke energy is held liable/responsible for the mess they've made.Shame on them.!!! Thanks, Tom for this.

Here in NC McCrory has managed to piss off just about everyone and every group. Hopefully this incompetent will have a SHORT ONE TERM.

I wonder how well people are enjoying the great benefits of no regulations and no inspections. McCrory is just a front man for the business groups (to include ALEC and C of C) that bought his election. Toxic waste in waterways does not just suddenly disappear. Over time and with sufficient rain water to help clear the water the toxins move on down river. The water contrary to public statements should not be used for human, animal or plants consumption.

I get it, these people need something to hang on to, there is poverty as we have not seen since the great depression, most jobs are tenuous at best and pay checks are not meeting the most basic needs., So these people hang on to the lies proffered by the business groups. They vote, all too consistently against their own best interest. Americans love to think that any day they too will a part of the 1%, they will somehow find those streets of paved gold. Meanwhile, the Powers That Be are taking that gold from their teeth.

Thanks TC - hope you feeling much better.

I don't have cable, so I do sometimes get news after everyone else. I certainly hope the grand jury and the DOJ do their job on this!

Like the banks though, addressing the problems company by company is like wading in quicksand. We need to break up ALL the banks, and ALL the energy companies. Which would give sustainable energy a chance to shine (pun intended).

Gene J - loved your comment: "Tea Party governors in Lock down. Might even run on the weekends on MSNBC". You made me laugh out loud.
I NEVER miss MSNBC - especially Rachel Maddow but I watch all the shows. There are some VERY SHARP young newscasters on MSNBC these days! McCrory is following in the doomed footsteps of fellow corrupt Gov. Christie. Both of them are "toast".

NC might come to its senses, but gerrymandered voting districts, Koch $$ and ALEC tactics will make it very tough to undo the damage. Good luck, Tar Heel State.

Takes me back to the Watergate scandal, and many did indeed serve time for criminal activities from that. It was the beginning of (mostly) televised hearings capturing national attention. Sure hope similar level of media attention is given (like Gene's suggestion would help garner). And is the background for why the faith community's Moral Mondays folks got 80,000 to show up to protest legislation and policies that hurt the poor.
Thanks for bringing the new information to our attention TC!

The delights of wholesale gerrymandering combined with zoning districts that defy Riemannian geometry and proving the well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made Governor should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem especially people who see politics as a way to make money without doing any real work. See - Sarah Palin & underestimating the ingenuity of complete fools.

I agree with Robert B. I too live in NC and even though I can say I didn't vote for him, some Democratic friends did and are now having "buyers remorse." What is not being said is he is the puppet of Art Pope who is a major Kocksucker and has been wanting to get his hands on this state for a very long time. He has it now and he, McCrory and their Republican Congress are determined to have us hit rock bottom of the 50 states. I can only hope he is somehow connected to this disaster and is in prison by next year at this time. He has gone against every one of his campaign promises and added more destruction to them. He gave his top aids a 12% raise while not giving any teachers with seniority anything at all. He's refused the Medicaid that would help the citizens with health care and said if unemployment benefits were voted to be extended, he would refuse that money too. He has no interest in the middle class or poor and doesn't even try to hide it.

Can we just bag um and tag um? I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo SICK of Bagger/Fascist Governors I could Linda Blair for the next DECADE....but then my head would fall off and I would never be the same again.....
They cannot win by fair means, that applies to TX, NC, SC ,LA, GA, FL, MS....need I go on? Baggers are not like a box of chocolates...we know exactly what we are gonna get when we bite into one of them. Voting against their best interests, and in turn, causing the sane people to live with their gerrymandered heavy Bagger voting against best interests, the sane have to survive the insaniTEA for however many years......they must be closet masochists or brain-dead. I just do not get it, and I am beyond tired of surviving this craziness.

OK, my rant is over. I hope against hope that NC will miraculously wake up enmasse and vote this corrupt POS out of office if he isn't charged, convicted and carted off to prison first. Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, who am I kidding other than myself.....they won't as they apparently LIKE living in Hell.

Good on Rach for speaking up and out about him, the Fascist Basta*d.

Looking at the picture of McCrory on Rachel's video, he appears to be a "brownshirt".

If there is a hint of trouble, usually there IS trouble. Perhaps McCrory should go swimming in the Dan River to prove eveything is ok. Putz!

When a corporation commits this level of pollution, every principal in the organization should be jailed, the corporation should be fined, at a minimum, 20% of its; gross worth and should be held responsible ffor 100% of cleanup costs until NO pollution from the action remains and they should not be allowed to declare bankruptcy.

Unless taking shortcuts causes severe damage to a corporation they will never do the right thing.

If I had my way, every corporate scumbag that allows this kind of thing to happen should be in a maximum security prison for life.

I don't think I can add much more as the comments above clearly spell it out. I just hope Rachel is allowed to keep her job, you know Corporate Media. Seems like when they become too good at it, they are let go, remember Keith Olbermann?

Our Progress Energy, here in Florida, has now become Duke Energy and also raised our rates too. But with a Tea Bag Governor Rick Scott in Office, doesn't surprise me we now have Duke. They all wash each others backs. For what it's worth if you could sign this petition, if you haven't already done so I'd appreciate it.
Tell Duke Energy To Dump ALEC

Yes, I know, a long shot.....but we must keep trying......what other choice do we have.

Some times it just so much fun watching the things that crawl out from under rocks to do their masters bidding find that they no longer have rocks to crawl back under. And in this case it looks like Gov. Under-rock has discovered that there are people with full salt shakers who want to know just what is under all of that slime.
