Day 94, still going strong and so much achieved yesterday too.Kudos. I hope your big meeting with your boys went just as you wanted it to go, TomCat.

Daily Kos: Actually the whole world was silent on this topic, TomCat. It is impossible to acknowledge for a lot of governments and media they were in the wrong and diplomacy after shaking the offered hand of President Hassan Rohani was enough to make Iran curb its nuclear program. Eating grow is the last thing Republicans will do. It would be an never-ending task.

The New Yorker: Ouch, Andy! Taking both Dubya and Rick Perry down a notch in one tiny article, that must have hurt Republicans something bad. Let's not exaggerate: those Republicans that can read and of those that can understand the allusion to Republican presidents and Dubya in particular. Sorry, on second thought not that many got hurt. They hardly ever get upset by anything Andy writes, do they? Makes you wonder why.

Huffington Post: Again!?! Really, another botched execution? There is no "may be" about it, torturing somewhat to death for two hours IS a botched execution, besides inhuman, inhumane, unconstitutional, disgusting, revolting ...
I hadn't seen anything on our news about it which is unusual, but then MH17, a national day of mourning, Gaza all in cucumber time, had drawn attention away from all other news. Too bad, the US could do with some international pressure on the way 'justice is served' there.

Cartoon: Please don't! A Republican could end up there and they do not need any more martyrs; look how they misuse the 'last' one.

Wood might have found crucifixion kinder than the agony AZ inflicted. Seems courts for other states should be joining in rulings like CA's once again. The systems do not, IMO, do death penalties in ways that conform to our constitution and may be unable to do so at all--which should lead all states to join in the cost-effective alternative of life in prison instead.
Iran is indeed a major victory and achievement deserving major press coverage by an informed media--does the absence tell us how much the media is controlled by people profiting from war?
Andy is spot on, sadly. Do the war mongers realize Perry couldn't have done that if they'd been called up for Iraq and Afghanistan like Dubya required?
Glad personal business is under control and hope the meeting went well.

Huffington Post:
Rachel Maddow 07/23/14
Witnesses describe two hour ‘gasping’ execution
Mauricio Marin, reporter for CBS’s Tucson affiliate KOLD TV, describes the execution of Joseph Wood by the state of Arizona, the latest in a series of botched executions using experimental drugs of undisclosed origin.

4:30 My, what big eyes you have!

Daily Kos - In all fairness and balance (snark), had the chicken hawks on Iraq not started rattling sabers and had the Malaysian flight not been downed before this transpired, we might have seen it on, say, page 43 of the New York Times. But American attention spans ...

New Yorker - Once again, do click through so as not to miss the punch line. Good grief.

HuffPo - This is truly outrageous - even more so, in my opinion, than Oklahoma, which at least tried to halt the execution when it became evident that it was botched. And isn't the victim's sister a charming human being.

Cartoon - Actually Wood's execution appears to have been much like a Crucifixion in that the ultimate cause of death was anoxia. One had to raise one's body to be able to gasp for breath, but couldn't keep it up for long so would sink back. Which is why, if it was taking too long, the soldiers broke one's knees, after which it was over within minutes.

Have a great volunteer day! You and your work give me hope.

I hope you have a good day with your guys. I don't know how you manage all that you do.

Daily Kos: Yes it is sick that the media is not covering this. We have too little real news, based on fact, and too much sensationalism to get ratings. Real reporting and journalism is a lost art.

The New Yorker: I agree with your last statement. Instead of satire, this sounds like Republican based policy.

Huffington Post: Capital punishment must end. Yes, this was cruel and unusual punishment. It is sickening to me that this country is still so depraved to continue this.

Cartoon: I think they might if they thought they could.

Arrggghhhh!!!!! I just lost my entire rewritten comment . . . that makes twice! Third time a charm?

Puzzle — 3:01 Not fast enough to catch that raptor puddy tat!

Daily Kos — Why would anyone want to report a success that has not "blood, guts, and tears"?

"A major foreign policy success. Iran is ending its nuclear program. All without a shot being fired. . . .

Because if we aren't dropping bombs on someone it just isn't possible for a policy to succeed to the "smart" people in Washington."

And the "smart" people in Washington? Those would be the hawkish and neoconish Republicanus/Teabaggers! Their blood lust is inexorably high!

The New Yorker — There is one website that says it all! Asshole of the Day 24 July 2014 . Take a look at 23 July 2014, 2nd one down. You'll love it and I am sure will agree.

Huffington Post — This is possibly the best time to say "It is time to do away with the barbaric capital punishment." It is absolutely unacceptable that these "glitches" should happen. In another article in the Huff Post, Judge Pushes For Guillotine, Firing Squads

"Kozinski [Chief Judge Alex Kozinski of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals] first wrote of his distaste for lethal injection in a decision Monday, even while arguing against delaying the execution of Joseph Rudolph Wood III in Phoenix. "

Now Kozinski argued that the guillotine or firing squad would be much better for capital punishment. He doubted that there would be appeal for the guillotine, but there will never be a shortage of guns nor bullets in the US like there is currently of lethal injection drugs. Oh how humane!

It is time for capital punishment to go the way of the do-do bird and a more civil society to take hold!

Cartoon — I can see the Republicanus/Teabaggers bringing crucifixion back . . . it would serve their blood lust . . . they'd probably try to sell tickets.

There is another petition on Daily Kos for the Detroit Water situation that you may or may not have seen. Here is the link:

Declare a public health emergency in Detroit

I hope everyone will sign it for the people of Detroit!

New Yorker: Perry's decision on Monday to send troops "somewhere for no reason “ready and willing” to use troops without a defined objective, mission, or exit strategy"....yep, he's got that down pretty good.
HP: Unreal, so unbelievably sad, and very painful for this man. This means of TORTURE must stop.!!!!
Cartoon: They continue with executions, and now want proposed crucifixions for the daily Specials. (sick.!!)
So glad to read that your meeting went well. You are an inspiration to your guys. Hope that you get your much deserved rest. In the meantime, take care, kudos on your counter, have a great day, and thanks, Tom.
