From this article --

Besides pushing ahead on specific measures to expand stem cell research and funding for HIV/AIDS research, Kennedy also pushed for funds to be directed to the National Institutes of Health for biomedical research in 1993 and again in 2003. A provision in the 1993 NIH bill he co-authored was that women and minorities could not be excluded from that medical research.

Now, the NIH Web site instructs grantees that, unless they can illustrate a compelling scientific reason for exclusion, research studies and clinical trials must include women and minorities in their pool of subjects. For a senator who spent most of his career working for a more inclusive approach to health care, I can't think of a better legacy.

Kennedy was a true humanitarian who did so much for the quality of life for all Americans, especially the poor and middle class. He left this world a better place because of his life.

Kat thank you for sharing Ted Kennedy's Real Legacy on Women's Health. As i watched CNN today i heard so many stories... apparently there wasn't a bill that he didn't know about ... i'm in tears now ...at 2a.m. just thinking about this man who rose above mistakes declared in favor of being a champion of many causes to multitudes of lesser wealth...you know... the homeless, the immigrants... standing up for equality for African Americans...you know when he quoted his brother Robert Francis Kennedy i almost felt my heart stop ... here's the quote:
" some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say why not. "
so all i have to say is: let's carry the torch, be the flame, ignite the world with a consciousness so filled with Light that it will be unmistakable, undeniable and incredible. We strive each day to be the change we wish to see in the world ... Senator Edward "Teddy " Kennedy did this with humility and grace... boisterous in the Senate he needed no loudspeaker said a fellow colleague ...health care reform for the poor rang in everyone's ears! today the bell tolled 47 times for each year he spent in the Senate doing his best to make things a little better for someone else... oh yes, he will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Teddy you deserve to now!
