In 2008, the 10-year-old made an appearance in a Sana'a court, demanding a divorce from her husband, a man in his 30s.

Good for her. And very brave for a 10 year old. I hope she stays safe.

Good for her. I just hope some masked gunmen do not do to her what they did to little Malali for being outspoken. Her actions are not against Islam but against injustice and brutality.

Although she has won her divorce I am sure her ex-husband will not be charged for her rape or her in-laws for assault.

Good for her! This business of young girls being forced into marriage with older men is disgusting. What a horrible, backwards society. Keep them out of North America.

Although I did note, I am curious as to why an article from March 2011 would be brought to our attention now.

"“Those countries also tend to practice polygamy and have higher death rates for girls,” Kristof wrote. “That eans fewer marriageable women — and more frustrated bachelors to be recruited by extremists. So educating Nujood and giving her a chance to become a lawyer - her dream - isn’t just a matter of fairness. It’s also a way to help tame the entire country.”

There's the truth of it. The entire country, indeed region, needs be "tamed". Any society or religion that allows this kind of "marriage" is nothing more than legalized pedophila and clinically disturbed. No such marriage should be recognized anywhere else. I'm glad this child "won" her freedom. And hope she never gets entangled in such again - this had the complicity of her family or it wouldn't have happened.

Sheila, I got to another news page with a link to this article and missed the date of its print. Just wondering, if this world record was over-done since then.
