Two US aid workers are also being treated for Ebola in Liberia, including Dr Kent Brantly, who was the medical director at one of the country's two treatment centres run by the group the Samaritan's Purse.

It is extremely difficult to help people who refuse to evolve out of self-destructive habits. The Ebola and HIV viruses are passed on to humans by the "bush meat" trade. In other words many West Africans consider the meat of primates an epicurean delight in spite of having been warned repeatedly of the health risks.

Maybe if we didn't destroy the rainforests ....deforestation in general....... we wouldn't have such a problem. Everything created on this earth serves a purpose and should be respected. Thanks for sharing Alexandra.

Barnard, your are partially right, but Ebola is thought to come from eating bats.

Yes bats AND PRIMATES. The other disease passed on to humans by eating and killing primates is AIDS and there is no "thought" about it as research has gone on for at least 15 years. The problem is that people like the ex-UN president Kofi Anan caused endless mischief by trying to blame US biological warfare on both diseases. (In spite of the fact that they were around long before the expression "biological warfare" had been coined) It is time West Africans started to take responsibility as adults for their problems most of which are related to runaway birth rates. It is also time the West stopped behaving as indulgent parents and allow Africa to start taking responsibility. After all, West Africa in general is so blessed with minerals and resources that it should be the richest place on earth. Across Europe and the USA are thousands of trained medical practioners from West Africa. Why are they not returning home in droves to care for their own people?
