For the second time, President Bush has vetoed a major expansion of the children's health insurance program, making it clear that the debate will linger as a political issue throughout 2008.

Noted Thanks Emily. Surprise!surprise!suprise! ....NOT! It is very clear to me that the "ONLY" thing that this man is qualified for is lingering. Lingering and dragging on with procrastination on the very issues that need to be addressed yesterday. He is supposed to be helping our children, not hindering them. I dont know why he thinks he is the only person that deserves to have a life. This is just right up his alley, he can no longer fight against those of us who sign the petitions and try to make him responsible for his own actions, so what does he do? takes it out on the innocent little ones that cant voice their opinions. He is one of the most sadest, disgusting people I have ever seen in my life. He is beyond shame.

House conservatives uphold Bush’s SCHIP veto. Conservatives in the House blocked Congress from expanding children’s health insurance today. The House fell approximately 15 votes short of the needed 2/3 majority needed to override President Bush’s veto. Rep. Steve King (R-IA) called the SCHIP defeat a “victory” for “kids” and “taxpayers.” UPDATE: DemfromCT has more on the role of SCHIP in the ‘08 elections, and The Gavel has a sampling of newspaper editorials nationwide supporting the SCHIP bill. 1:10 pm | Comment (60)

Blunt brags about blocking health care ‘for more kids.’ Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference yesterday, House Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) bragged about the “accomplishments” of conservatives in Congress in 2007, including the blocking of “an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program,” which he complained would “expand from a program for poor kids to a ‘program for more kids‘” (sub. req’d).
