Sarah went into surgery at 11:30AM this morning east coast time. The transplant comes from an adult donor. Surgery is expected to take 6-7 hours. Sarah's outcome is tenuous until she stabilizes after surgery. The Judge who intervened gave a 1 year time line to allow HHS (Secretary Kathleen Sebelius) time to research the viability of the Juge's transplant rule change for adolescents under 12 years old. We all will be watching and praying for Sarah's recovery. One thing for sure her outcome will effect the Judges decision to put Sarah on the adult transplant list confirming whether his intervention was good and lasting or not.
I will keep you posted.

While this is good news, it is too early to celebrate. Even if the surgery is successful (not in anyway a sure thing), she has a long and painful road to go. The 5-year survival rate is about 55% and she will need constant treatment for the rest of her life. Not an easy thing.

I hope the surgery goes well and that finally the these arbitrary rules will be reviewed. I have read that some doctors and hospital are finding that the many drugs used after a transplant hinder rather than help the patient. She is only 5 years old, let's hope she has long and happy life ahead.

At least now she has a fighting chance. I'm sure that all the signatures the petitions were getting helped. I'm sure there were other things going on as well be it phone calls or political push.

This is a painful reminder that there are too few organs to go around. So please, if you have not done so, consider organ donation.

Sorry Sherri - can't send you another star for this (I just tried!) - thank you for such good news .

"The move came days after a federal judge ordered Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to direct OPTN to place Sarah in line on the adult list, while at the same time maintaining her priority on a pediatric list for children younger than 12.

"Under U.S. District Court Judge Michael Baylson's order, OPTN added Sarah on the adult list as of 10:34 p.m. June 5, according to a letter from Sebelius.

"The Murnaghan family took pains to thank the organ donor's family.

""We are elated this day has come, but we also know our good news is another family's tragedy," they wrote. "That family made the decision to give Sarah the gift of life -- and they are the true heroes today."

Noted. I was thrilled to get the news the other day. Neat to read the story and see the videos. Many thanks and thanks be to God! Kinda fun to hear folks discussing prayer on the news as its so unpopular for many these days.
