When Dorothy Spourdalakis took her 14 year old son Alex, who has autism and is nonverbal, to the hospital for severe gastrointestinal distress she expected help - instead he was restrained for 20+ days and has yet to receive treatment!

I wish I knew some "courtesy" attorneys ---they would take this hospital down if they were good and mean and who couldn't be in this situation. Signed petition. Wish there was more I could do. Thinking. Thanks Joanna
I am furious. What kind of hospital is this?

As a nurse and a mother of a child with autism I find the level of care that Alex has and is receiving offensive!! Nobody would present to a hospital ER for gastro problems and find themselves restrained and sedated. From trading the supplied information this child has not had a proper medical assessment for the issues he presented with or any pain relief despite his mother stating he was in pain. There is no mention of bloods being taken or urine or poo samples being taken. Very simple tests for gastro problems!!! I wish Alex and his family the best in sorting out his problems! I personally would discharge him as he is not bring cared for or treated properly due go his disability. I would then make an urgent appointment with his own paediatrican! This way he is more likely to have the tests he really requires ordered. I wish you the best and God bless. Megan. 🌟🌟🌟💜💚💙

this is something that effects all autism parents and others that hear of this story.
This is truly heartbreaking and my thoughts are with Alex's family.
I feel that Loyola Medical Center are breaching not only human rights but disability rights and the code of conduct.

this hospital should be sued for every dime they ever hope to have. I was always told when my aunt was in a nursing home & we reuested she be restrained at night because she would try to get out of bed & fall was it was illegal to restrain anyone in a hospital, nursing home, etc. This makes me sick ,& where are the parents? I would have taken my child out of there in a heartbeat. Whats wrong with people today ?
