I am so angry and im at a loss i simply can not believe the attitude of this college they WILL NOT LISTEN TO REASON! They came right out and said we can have an opinion and even voice it but it WONT MATTER they are still going to slaughter bill and lou the 10 and 11 year old oxens they WONT even consider giving Bill And Lou to Vine sanctuary who has been contacted the college sonce this first began i really had hope because so many people were speaking out and signing petitions but this college just WONT BUDGE they even seem mad that we even dare to question their decision just heartbreaking i must thank Tony Zadel for sending me this info im devestated as im sure you are there is NO HOPE to save Bill and Lou but i will NEVER forget them or green mountain college for their treatment of two oxens who served them for over 10 years

They are really attached to each other,” Dube said. “Their well-being is important to us. We wanted them to die together. We are pretty certain that it would be detrimental (to separate them).”
VINE Sanctuary in Springfield has already offered to take them as rescues at no cost to the college.
Awwww......How sad that they (the staff/students) are NOT listening to reason, nor the thousands who have signed this petition. Most unfortunate for Lou and Bill who have been mascots for more than 10 years.!!!

Disgusting!
Let them go together to the sanctuary that has offered to take them.
The solution does not have to be the death of these creatures.

This just proves the disgraceful mentality these people have, these oxen have worked, tirelessly for 10 years, they have never complained, never phoned in sick or gone on strike, yet once one of them falls ill, their hard work is forgotten and their lives are easily sacrificed for a measly months supply of meat.

I wonder how much food their work has fed these greedy people over the years! Do they remember that?

WHAT KIND OF "COMMUNITY" KILLS WHAT IT NAMES!? TO NAME SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS TO CONNECT WITH THAT BEING ON A DEEP AND INTIMATE LEVEL. ANIMALS ARE MY FRIENDS, MY COMPANIONS, AND MY SAVIORS. I NAME THEM. I LOVE THEM. I CONNECT WITH THEM DEEPLY. ANIMALS ARE MY FRIENDS. THEY ARE NAMED AND THEREBY GIVEN RECOGNITION AS INDEPENDENT SOULS. I DO NOT EAT WHAT I NAME AND WHAT I LOVE. THEY NAMED THESE BEINGS, MADE THEM MASCOTS, USED THEM UP, AND NOW WILL EAT THEM. VAMPIRES. NOT HUMANS, VAMPIRES.

Ask all the students to go meat free for a month and "buy out" the contract on Bill and Lou's lives.

This is truly a difficult one to process. Any time an animal is involved, the emotional, sometimes irrational, part of our being becomes fully engaged. I imagine, thinking about my own reactions, it’s because I know animals have no voice so it is up to me to speak for them. If they are in my care or any other humans care, then it is my duty. Many of us, probably most of us, have had to put down a pet and know how heart-rending the process was and never forget how difficult our decision was. I believe the college is, at the very least, missing a huge opportunity for creating corporate goodwill. After all, that is the best asset of any business. Only one animal, according to the college, needs to be put down so I wonder about their decision to slaughter both. My final vote goes to Vine sanctuary.
