Humans are animals too so why some humans think they are the only one animal who can have emotion. Many humans are so ignorant. We don't need any "scientific evidence" to confirm that animals have emotions. Anyone who has dogs or cats can tell right away, just trust own feeling! I think that the person who try not to believe that animals emotion do so to avoid feeling guilty and to justify the way we are killing/abusing animals!

I believe that, most definitely, animals have emotions--humans are sometimes simply too blind to see.

great article! thank you!
my cat who has been raised by me since her 1st day of life (she was dumped in a garbage bin and rescued) doesn't know how to "meow", instead she tries to copy the sounds I make. I can understand what she means by every sound, so I think they have the ability to speak, only that their universe is not that large: she can't sustain an academic thesis on the origin of the universe, though I suspect she might understand and know more than me on the topic

Thank you Deb! Truly a great article! I really believe that my cats have emotions just like I do or any other human being. By the way, I signed all the petitions!

as long as any being lives in fear and death at the hands of man so shall all men live under this same threat
scientific research shows that many animals are very intelligent and have sensory and motor abilities that dwarf ours. the universe is our shared country and the earth is our shared home and to do good should be our shared religion and under the fact of evolution all beings are our family
life has value beyond measure
Peace and Love

Thank you Deb - "People are animals too! " - That sums it up for me, and it's always amusing that some people don't want to recognize this - and on the dark side, as Elsie points out - it's easier to justify harming something that you believe is not like you. Thank you too Nancy for the "The Orangutan and the Hound" - a beautiful testimony that animals love, feel pleasue and joy, capable of altruism, ad infinitum.....

thanks Deb. Beautiful picture of an albino gorilla. When I was young I just knew that animals could think and feel. As I got older and started reading books by various experts they confirmed this opinion and that we too are part of the animal world.

Nobody could doubt it...its a fact, I doubt that they wonder if we have emotions, they know we do, just like we know that they do.

Non human animals clearly have emotion but it is not human emotion as so many believe it is.

Humans have the ability to temper most instinct.

While I may agree the male lion cares for his cubs and often displays what could be seen as love I can not discount the fact that same lion will kill and eat a cub from a rival male.

Emotion is very complex and intertwined and not just the single event we see often in images

Why is it we do not get the fact non-human animals are as unique and diverse within their species as humans; why do humans insist they be like us? I want the dog that lives here to smell like a clean dog not vanilla-bean foo foo or Polo.

Humans are the only animal I know who believe to live they must be happy while what apparntly makes non-human animals happy is to just be.

Animals have true to life feelings, motions, hurts and everything that a human has and no different than the other. And those who don't think they do are fools. If human kind learned the peaceful ways of animals, we just might experience World Peace for our animals are our true peace makers. We are animals in the eyes of animals.

What a silly question. Of course they have feeling, all in all, within their natures, they are far more inteligent
than man, and they have a lot more common sense and sensibility then we do.

No doubt, animals are emotional beings! Also there is no such thing as a dumb animal, they can often outsmart humans.
However, more complicated question is can animals be moral beings? According to many scientific researches - animals are moral beings. All animals know right from wrong and they live according to natural moral code - wild justice.
Animals are amazing beings with different personalities, with respect for other, compassion and dignity. Not like humans!

Thank you Deb, very interesting article.

Thanks Deb- Of course animals have emotions. They show it everyday even if we as humans do not always recognize it. My cats speak to me, tell me what they need & help me when I need soothing. Why humans think we are the only species that can communicate & feel is a very shallow view of the world & it's wonderful creatures. I believe it is many of our own human species that do not feel emotion or we would not do the things we do to our fellow animals or to each other.
