Noida, Jan 25: Two Pakistani terrorists were on Sunday killed in Sector 97 of Noida in a pre-dawn encounter, a day before the country celebrates its 59th Republic Day.

"Two terrorists have been gunned down by our team at Noida and we are collecting the evidence and trying to figure out what they were up to," Inspector General, Special Task Force, AK Jain told reporters.

According to reports, Abu Ismail and Abu Ahmed hailed from the Pakistani cities of Sialkot and Rawalpindi. A Pakistani passport has been recovered from the Maruti 800 car in which the duo were fleeing from Bulandsher to Delhi.

Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Law & Order Brij Lal stated that the slain men were terrorists. Two AK 47 rifles, five hand grenades and a bag full of documents were recovered from them.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Navin Arora, an identity card of one Sameer Chaudhary was also recovered from the car, adding the ID may be fake. "We are investigating. We have to see what IDs etc do we get...," Arora said.

The 30-minute encounter was a joint operation of the Noida police and the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). A constable of the UP ATS Vinod Kumar was also injured in the encounter.

Arora further revealed that they had information that some persons were on their way to Delhi in a white Maruti car with arms and ammunitions.

The ATS started following the car after receiving information from the Noida police of Sector 97, Sector 39 and Sector 49.

As the terrorists entered Noida through Model Town out post, the team informed the city police, who joined them, he said, adding the ultras fired at the police team, leading to exchange of fire between the two sides.

"Two criminals who were critically injured were rushed to hospital where they were declared brought dead," Arora said.

As per the reports coming out of the encounter spot, a bomb disposal squad has reached the site to defuse the grenades.
