Sarah Palin and Big Oil
Energy Wire talked to Gov. Sarah Palin in May about her views on Big Oil, offshore drilling and a long-awaited, expensive and controversial natural gas pipeline for which she has been pushing hard. With McCain's announcement Friday, suddenly her comments seem a lot more interesting.

Many environmental and Democratic activists attacked her yesterday for being too close to Big Oil. They dislike her support for drilling in environmentally sensitive areas, her skepticism about alternative energy sources, and her opposition to listing polar bears as an endangered species. "Sarah Palin reinforces John McCain's plan to continue the Bush-Cheney big oil energy policies," said Daniel J. Weiss, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. "Palin may be new, but her big oil energy agenda is very old-fashioned."

Another interesting connection. Most if not all of the policies of Republicans are tied to the PAST.. Green Party is about future and NEW ideas coming from the FUTURE.

Oil---- ancient sunlight... millions of years old, toxic, poisonous, danger.

Patriarchy ---old obsolete power structure

Good old boy network --- old ancient oligarchy

Corporate Monopolies - old power structure based on illegal and immoral gains; oil, sports, railroads, drugs, doctors, huge global corporations like Monsanto, trying to keep and hold onto profits and power at any cost, even if it means killing everyone and poisoning everything.

Old Testament ---- ancient past, does not apply to today, but people who base their lives on this are White Christian Fundamentalists --- old belief systems based on past and mostly unproven theories (Earth only 2,000 years old, etc.), it is a tiny minority of globes population trying to represent EVERYONE by FORCE and LAW..

I see many people just don't get it, or refuse to believe it. The time is now, not later. This election is that important. Palin is about money and herself. If she were educated (doubt she can be) she would plan for her children and grandchildren. She would protect her state and wildlife and lands. Alaska is very unique and she is plundering it for her own use. So Sad because we will all have to live with what polititions do

Mari Basque (1243)
Sunday September 14, 2008, 12:53 pm

Judy,

Thanks for the note judy but please listen...

That has nothing to do who Human Caused Climate change now. Yes you are correct that the earth changes but that has nothing to do with this.

The question is can CO2 change climate?

Actually, we know for a fact that CO2 can change the climate. This certainty is based on two well established facts:

1.) The temperatures on Earth are due to the Greenhouse effect caused by our atmosphere. If this wasn't the case, temperatures on Earth would be the same as temperatures on the Moon, (and they are not).

2.) Carbon-dioxide is a Greenhouse gas. Carbon-dioxide is a gas that traps heat. That is a well proven scientific fact. In fact, carbon-dioxide is so good at absorbing radiation in the infrared, they use it to make lasers that can burn through metal. Carbon-dioxide can trap heat, plain and simple.

So, since we know that the greenhouse effect exists and we know that carbon-dioxide is a greenhouse gas, we know that increasing carbon-dioxide will increase the greenhouse effect. Since the greenhouse effect provides the heat for our climate, increasing levels of carbon-dioxide will effect our climate.

If Judy lived here in the USA she would see the real CONSPIRACY theory (Scam) thrown out by Bush & Co the Oil loving Republican party. However, since she lives in Canada, where the government openly admits there is human caused climate change, Judy is convinced that the Canadian government is part of a CONSPIRACY theory (Scam) when it isn't.

Please Judy, wake up. Instead of reposting what you have already posted 1000 times on Care2 you really need new evidence on your side, (and honest, accurate evidence from you would be nice for a change).

NASA clearly has real evidence of human caused climate change. Which has nothing to do with solar or earth activites.

Judy is somewhat correct in believing that there is a conspiracy involving global warming. However, its not the Canadian government that is perpetrating the conspiracy. It is the current administration of the United States. The Bush administration has clearly been conspiring to cover up any and all evidence of human caused global warming. There is a conspiracy, but instead of uncovering it, Judy is being duped by it because she lives in canada.

http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/images/stories/papers/monckton/monckton_what_hockey_stick.pdf
Conclusion
The continuing affair of the “hockey-stick” graph is a microcosm of the profound collapse of the rigor, objectivity, and honesty that were once hallmarks of the scientific community. The need to look to the State for very nearly all science funding has inflicted upon the scientific community a dull, dishonest
uniformity, so that the deliberate falsification of results to support the current official orthodoxy has become commonplace, particularly where the climate question is concerned.
It was bad enough that one of those behind the “hockey stick” affair should have told a fellowresearcher,“We need to get rid of the medieval warm period.” It was worse that the authors of the bogus graph attempted to do just that, by ignoring, undervaluing or even suppressing proxies for northern-hemisphere temperature that did not suit the result they wanted; by falsely stating that they
had used data they had in fact replaced with “estimates” of their own that gave them a less inconvenient
answer; by overvaluing by many orders of magnitude the contribution of datasets that suited the result they wanted.
It was worse still that the IPCC, several leading journals and numerous former co-authors of the three fabricators of the hockey stick should have continued to cling to it as though it were Gospel even hough it has been justifiably and utterly discredited in the scientific literature, and should have gone through an elaborate pantomime of rewriting and publishing previously-rejected papers with the
connivance of a dishonest journal editor, so that an entirely fictitious scientific support for the false graph could be falsely claimed by the IPCC in its current Fourth Assessment Report.
The IPCC might have regained some of the scientific credibility that it lost by its publication of the 2001 graph if, in its 2007 assessment report, it had had the integrity, honesty, and common sense to apologise for the failure of its soi-disant “peer-review” process to identify the multiple and serious scientific errors that led to the publication of the graph.
As it is, the IPCC, rather than apologizing, has chosen to participate in the falsification of subsequent results purporting to uphold the original graph, and altogether to ignore papers such as those whose graphs are shown here, confirming the well-established historical record of the existence of the
medieval warm period. No serious scientist, therefore, can any longer take any of the IPCC’s conclusions seriously for a single moment longer. As Lord Lawson of Blaby has long argued, the IPCC should now be abolished. It cannot serve any useful purpose in future, because it has dishonestly lent its support not merely to the falsification of scientific results but to the persistent maintenance of that
falsification. The IPCC is finished.

Was there a medieval warm period? Yes. Was that period warmer worldwide than the present? Yes.
Are today’s global temperatures exceptional? No. Have the past ten thousand years been generally warmer than the present? Yes: much warmer. Is there, therefore, the slightest reason for the childish panic that the environmental extremist movement and its servant the IPCC have attempted to whip up?
No. Should any government devote a single further penny to the climate scare? No. Even if humankind is contributing significantly to warmer weather (which is highly unlikely), adaptation to warmer weather as and if necessary would be orders of magnitude cheaper than the measures to reduce carbon
emissions that the world’s extremist politicians are now so eagerly but purposelessly advocating.

The real cost of the flagrant abuses of the scientific method surrounding the question of climate that are so well illustrated by the affair of the “hockey stick” is a terrible, unseen cost in human lives. Thebiofuel scam that arose directly out of the climate scare has taken one-third of US agricultural land out
of food production in just two years. Similar economic disasters have occurred worldwide, not because of “global warming” but because of the catastrophically bad policy-making that the “global warming” scare has engendered among politicians too ignorant of science and too lazy to do other than swim with
the rising tide of pseudo-scientific nonsense.

The environmental extremists, who have already killed 50 million children through malaria by their now-canceled ban on the use of DDT, the only effective agent against the anopheles mosquito that spreads the infective parasite, are already eagerly killing millions more through their latest scientifically-baseless scare – the “global warming” panic pandemic. Food riots are occurring throughout the world among the poorest of the poor in many countries: but the desperation, starvation,
disease, and death that accompany the sudden famines that the biofuel-driven doubling of world food prices has engendered are scarcely reported by our news media. In Haiti, they are eating mud pies made of earth, water, a tiny knob of butter, and a pinch of salt; or they sell the mud pies to less fortunate
neighbours at 3 US cents each. Has any Western news medium reported this, or the hundreds of other agonizing stories of famine and starvation all round the world? No. Instead, every icicle that falls in
Greenland is paraded as an omen of imminent doom: and, as for the crooked pseudo-scientists who invented the hockey stick, supported it, and continue to parade it in the mendacious documents of the IPCC, no journalist would dare to ask any of them the questions that would expose their self-seeking
corruption for what it is. These evil pseudo-scientists, through the falsity of their statistical manipulations, have already killed far more people through starvation than “global warming” will ever kill. They should now be indicted and should stand trial alongside Radovan Karadzic for nothing less than high crimes against humanity: for, in their callous disregard for the fatal consequences of their
corrupt falsification of science, they are no less guilty of genocide than he.

"The biofuel scam that arose directly out of the climate scare has taken one-third of US agricultural land out of food production in just two years."

Wow! Your penchant for making ridiculous and inaccurate claims knows no bounds! The widespread use of biofuels in the last few years has not been due to global warming. It has been due to the new found economical viability of biofuels caused by the increase in oil prices, (and also partially due to the discovery that the additive MTBE contaminates ground water). The primary driver for the increase in oil prices has been a rise in demand for oil in China and India. Your feigned righteous indignation is as poorly thought out as all of your other misbegotten rants. Lame and sad, truly lame and sad.

For all the nay sayers. Regardless of which side of the fence you sit on GW. The plain and simple truth is this....Humans are parisites on this one and only home we have! There are WAY too many of us sucking Mother Earth dry! We can only suck out her life blood for so long and spew our waste back into the air we NEED to breathe for so long. We have contaminated her life giving waters. If it's yellow let it mellow! Keep a bucket in your shower, use the water for plants, washing out cat litter box, rinse out you trash cans! They shouldn't be that dirty if you compost! BE RESPONSIBLE! Buy less. Buy or even better, barter for ONLY what you need. Learn the difference between what you NEED and what you WANT then make better choices! Walk,ride...bikes, public transportation, car pool whatever, whenever possible!REDUCE, RECYCLE,REUSE! THose are three more 3 -R's that must be taught to our young! We are too WASTEFUL! Compost! Eat less meat or better yet go vegatarian! Grow your own food or buy local when you can! I trade foods with my neighbors! Unplug things when not in use. CALL your REPRESENTIVES and tell them NO DRILLING. IT won't help us! For those who argue that it will lower prices...You are WRONG!!! OPEC will just drop production to keep the market the same! Don't be fooled! BIG OIL WANTS YOUR MONEY! Thank you Mari for your news and all the links!

Let's be realistic. Population is exploding. People have only this year abandoned giant SUVs. People continue to eat meat, three meals a day.

I eat meat sparingly, or as the doctor prescribes. I have no children, and have made the commitment to family planning - I want one child and adoption. My biggest use of petroleum is my pet - he affects my driving habits.

Solar has achieved parity in Hawaii, it is now as cheap as coal, and remember Hawwaii is 22 cents kwatt hour so it will take time for solar to achieve parity in general.

Question: when Clinton was president in 2000 and gasoline was a dollar a gallon, the cheapest price in seventy years, why were you silent about global warming?

Martha A. (8)
Monday September 15, 2008, 1:43 pm
We cannot do anything to stop global warming as it is cyclical. WE need to start sometime to drill for oil, and if it is found in abundance it will make the price of fuel decrease if we have the refineries to refine the oil...I am so tired of this topis; you guys talk about this all the time and even if we could do anything to affect the climate it would be negligible and would only be apparent after thousands of years.

RE: Martha

We are not talking about Earth activity or natural earth changes. What the video is about is human activity and man made climate change. Two differnt changes and two different activites.

Its pretty much gotten to the point where only oil executives and mentally ill people still believe that the current climate change is not due to human activity. The scientific community has overwhelmingly come to a very public consensus on this issue. Believing that global warming is purely natural is pretty much on the same level as believing that the Earth is flat.

The media had been spreading warnings of a cooling period since the 1950s, but those alarms grew louder in the 1970s... In 1975, cooling went from “one of the most important problems” to a first-place tie for “death and misery.” The claims of global catastrophe were remarkably similar to what the media deliver now about global warming (source: Fire and Ice).

What the science says...
1970's ice age predictions were predominantly media based with the majority of scientific papers predicting warming.

Question M:

How many of those concurring organizations polled their MEMBERSHIP.

I saw how that works during the 1980's fight against food irradiation. Committees make policy and committees are easy to control if you plan your moves. There it was the World Health Organization which was supposed to have given food irradiation the OK. Actually, it was a joint committee that was made up of FAO, WHO and the International Atomic Energy Commission.

The IPCC was just another front paid for by Ted Turner through his UN Foundation. Just because he has a great film library does not mean he is your friend.

The moves on "Global Warming" were planned long ago at the Club of Rome in the 1970s.
“In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill…The real enemy, then, is humanity itself….Bring the divided nation together to face an outside enemy, either a real one or else one INVENTED for the purpose…”

- The First Global Revolution: A Report by the Council of Rome

The entities here who are cheerleaders for the scam have very little to offer in the way of evidence that CO2 can cause climate to change and there is a mountain of evidence on the other side.
Seek it out.

OK, I decided to do a web search and see where you got your "Club of Rome" quote from. There were a whole bunch of sites that had that quote and they all had something in common. Here's a list of some of the websites:

www.rumormillnews.com

www.conspiracy-times.com

www.truthnews.us

aftermathnews.wordpress.com

www.crossroad.to

truth-is-authority.tumblr.com

www.rense.com

www.thepropheticyears.com

www.conspiracyarchive.com

www.overlordsofchaos.com

The thing that all of these websites have in common is that they are all hard-core, ultra-paranoid conspiracy theorist sites!
Its no wonder that everything you post is BS. Your info sources are all mental asylum inmates! No CNN, no New York Times,
no Washington Post, no National Geographic - nothing but conspiracy websites! The only legitimate website that shows up in the
list is Care2, and that is only there because some conspiracy freak named Judy Cross comes to Care2 and posts a bunch of BS
she cuts and pastes from conspiracy websites.

Before anyone can accuse me of engaging in ad hominem attacks, I want to make it clear that it is vitally important to point out when "information" is coming from unreliable sources. Anyone can go and find a "mountain of evidence" to back up any ludicrous notion if they are willing to quote freely from disreputable and insubstantial websites that post paranoid fiction.

Judy,

Here is a word directly from Rome...

Vatican Tells Vacationers to Mind Mother Earth

Mon Jun 23, 2008 7:31pm

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Thou shalt not harm the environment during thy vacation.

The Vatican sent out this message -- in effect -- to summer travellers, issuing a set of suggestions to help tourists minimise or offset environmental damage caused by their pursuit of rest and relaxation.

"One can choose to be a tourist at odds with the Earth or in favour of it," said the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, according to excerpts published by Italy's ANSA news agency on Monday.

Tips included taking less luggage on gas-guzzling airplanes and cars, planting trees to offset tourists' carbon footprints and choosing vacation spots in closer harmony with nature, ANSA said.

Under Pope Benedict and his predecessor John Paul, the Vatican has become progressively more "green", including by installing photovoltaic cells on buildings to produce electricity.

Last year, the Vatican hosted a scientific conference on climate change to underscore the role that religious leaders around the world could play in reminding people that damaging the environment is sinful.
