camels compete with sheep and cattle for food??? domesticated sheep and cattle aren't native to Australia either. if they're worried about climate change stop breeding them.

Don't mind them attempting to solve the camel problem, but the carbon training idea makes it repugnant.

Bill K. You said it. Introduced sheep and cattle are OK, camels are not? Oh, there is a money angle here somewhere. So, now the camels have to pay for human greed and ignorance! What else is new?
Disgusted with all government sponsored enviro schemes in Australia. And let us not forget about the nocturnal, clandestine decimation of kangaroos for sale to countries in the far east. I am sorry for "Waltzing Matilda" turning in her grave! When will Australians wake up??

I say that these people of S**t for brains!

People give out Nitrogen and trees give us clean Oxygen for us to continue living, so who on this planet is more of a threat?

People did cause the feral camel problem in Australia as they were not native to Australia. They must be suffering there as they are not native to the outback. They also do cause problems like vehicle accidents.

The problem Susan is that most people are stupid and self centered. The rest of the world, aside form the human species as a balance which we have totally upset. The flora and fauna then pay for ti because we can not leave well enough alone. There is a name for this and I think it is called murder for hire. I get tire of the euphemisms that are used. It is all just killing. Has Australia looked at their own part in the making of greenhouse gasses? I would guess it is much greater than what the camels create. Ah but then the would have to change their own habits instead of killing animals. How inconvenient for them that would be.

Australia needs to take a good hard look at their stupid ideas. If they follow through with this, every idiot will be taking a pot shot at these poor creatures. Imagine the suffering. What moron thought up this idea. How come it has not been widely discussed in our papers.

You all missed a key word-- FERAL camels. No one is ranching them. Yes, humans did cause the problem--some idiots imported them for transportation. IT didn't work and they were just turned loose. No predators. The camels adapted to the ecology (although perhaps imperfectly) and camels breed like... well, like rabbits, which are another of Australia's problems. ("Wikipedia--The cane toad in Australia is regarded as an exemplary case of a "feral species"—others being rabbits, foxes, cats, and Giant Mimosa. Australia's relative isolation prior to European colonisation and the industrial revolution—both of which dramatically increased traffic and importation of novel species—allowed development of a complex, interdepending system of ecology, but one which provided no natural predators for many of the species subsequently introduced. The recent, sudden inundation of foreign species has led to severe breakdowns in Australian ecology, after overwhelming proliferation of a number of introduced species for which the continent has no efficient natural predator or parasite, and which displace native species—in some cases these species are physically destructive to habitat as well."

Just because your ANCESTORS were total idiots about introducing foreign species to your country doesn't mean
you have to be an idiot to protect your natural ecology. Hey, if you've got a no kill way to elimnate invasive species, I'm sure the Australian government would be thrilled to hear it (and no, TNR will NOT work on these species).

And when you finish in Australia, come to the US. We've got more invasive species, many of them in water ways. We can't even blame most of it on ancestors. It's the present day ones who release their pet python to "live free" when she gets larger than they planned. Some how I think you all would be much less sympathetic to the python heading for you pet, than the wooly camel.

I am with you Fred Krohn!

Cutting Greenhouse gases by killing the camels - what a joke! Greenhouse gases stem from all that hot air between the politicians ears. Get rid of these bastards!

It's not the camels fault they are in this situation. We need to learn to co-exist. I'd rather see them neuter the camels first so they can't reproduce than to murder them just because we think they are in the way.
