Israel since its inception has economically been between a rock and a hard place. Most Israel's economy is tied up in the military - and the people know this.So much money is being lost on social programs, that

As most of Israel's economy is tied up in the military, it is not surprising that periodically the population protests.Israel has always been stuck between a rock and a hard place. It knows what its people need, it just does not have the funds.
Keeping Gaza secure, is costing Israel a fortune, but what is it to do? Sadly, the vast population understands this(those over 40), and they have come to terms with this.

All they have to do is live in peace with their neighbours, give back everything they stole and pay reparations and allow the RoR for all Palestinians. Then they would have no need to spend so much on arms and could devote their money to social programmes. They'd even be able to do without the $3 billions a year that the USI gives them and even the soft loans that they never repay.

John and Bruce do you really understand what is going on and the history? I don't fully either but it is a very long saga. Israel is far from perfect, don't get me wrong. The land was given to the Israelis (the Jews) after the Holocaust and in my mind it was done very poorly. The UN decided to do this and there was no discussion with the Palestinians, the land was just taken. The Jews have been harassed since the beginning of time. The British after the was were underhanded which did not help things. THe Israelis have taken way too much land and now need to give some up. After concessions and eace are made they can work things out. There are extremists on both sides though who sabotage every attempt at peace and both sides need to look past them and continue the peace process. the violence they incur is done to incite more violence. There needs to be an Israel, there needs to be a Palestinian state. Many Israelis want peace and are willing to do what needs to be done. I think the same goes for the Palestinians. I hope someday they can work things out as 63 years is way too long for this to have been going on. I realize this is somewhat simplistic but it's a long history.

I don't think many people have a handle on understanding the Middle East situation. Israel is a country in it's own right. It was created by the U.N in 1947 and, whereas countries the world over have taken land that did not belong to them - Israel did not. It is legitimate. The country of Israel is very small - and is dwarfed by the surrounding Arab countries. However because of the Arab mindset - like dogs in a manger - the Arabs want ALL the land. I ask you - what have the Arabs ever given to the world - apart from OIL - which draws billions upon billions of dollars into their greedy. grasping hands. What do they do for people who are less fortunate than themselves - like the people dying of starvation in Africa? Israel - to it's credit - supplies medicines, gives aid and succour to those in need and the list is endless. Time you - Bruce and John- did a bit more investigating into the truth of what goes here.

Israel drove out the Natives there, as if they were living in the days of Joshua.

Kate Kenner

I do appreciate ypur comment, but this worries me:--

"The Jews have been harassed since the beginning of time".

So what? Did this mean that they were to be given someone else's country?

Palestine was a homeland for people of all 3 religions, including the 3% of the population who were Jewish before the Zionist colonisation began in the 19th century. This is what it should revert to. "The Jews" don't need a state - which other religion has one? Jews are citizens of where they come from and the huge majority realise this and don't move to the Zionist Entity.

"Israel drove out the Natives there, as if they were living in the days of Joshua. "

And they're trying to drive out the rest by stealing their land and making life unbearable for them.

clearly, the funding of military is not working for Israel. How did the people "come to terms" with insanity?

No keep the settlements going in JUDEA and SAMARIA.

the settlements create employment, and infrastructure, and a happy invironment, for the Israeli pouplation,
and also creates opportunitys for every one, willing enough to grasp the opportunitys.

I don't usually reply to poorly spelled messages as they are an indication of the confusion of the thought processes of the writer. Are you saying, truly, that land theft and forced removal of Palestinian people from their property is a good thing? Simply to make Zionist Entity Jews happy?

If so, you are a racist, pure and simple.
