The EV1 was a great car! It was very practical for driving to work or shopping for the day and recharging in the garage at night!

Most people could have used these for commuting to work. Once this technology is no longer suppressed the science will improve dramatically. Much better batteries are already available than were used in these cars. Some electric cars have a 300 mile range before recharge.

Again these were very popular commuter cars that were recalled and crushed!

I have been hearing about this story for some time. Some decades ago I realized an electric vehicle would make electricity when it was decelerated. In fact, America has enough electricity to provide for about 84% of all vehicles if they were plug-in hybirds and charged at night.

You are right - batteries are improving rapidly.

What can we do? My batteries are all rechargeable - I keep them for years, and my next goal is to buy a solar panel and charge a deep-cycle battery to charge up the batteries. Then they will be charged off the grid.

Solar electricity has made dramatic improvements recently. For several decades it was stuck at five dollars a watt, making it too expensive. It has recently achieved parity in Hawaii.

The best automobile is an electric with engine back-up. This allows the driver to use elecricity and never worry about running out.

Also, consider that a hybrid vehicle has the power to run a household. Think about it - some people have generators for when the power goes out. The generators are typically one to five kwatts.

An electric car produces perhaps a hundred kwatts. That is twenty to a hundred times what a small generator will produce.

The bottom line is getting in touch with nature. In the future I see electric panels on every building and a windmill on every home and an electric car in the garage.
