As Obama's listless, meaningless support of the homeless is concerned, hopefully this will change in the next election.

the only reason the government and the money that pays for it does not fix poverty and homelessness is to ensure the slaves all keep working and don't cause to much of a enough to work the machines not smart enough to own them, lets wake the sheeple

Some homeless people need behavior modification as well as education. Unfortunately, there are some who are into drugs and alcohol so much that homelessness is an accepted lifestyle for them. Also some are mentally ill. So, education and training are a good start, but are certainly not a cure all. You have to offer the homeless a complete package or many will relapse.

HUD does great work. Seems like anything that works in Government and/or helps those in need is on the chopping block for Republicans. Had to understand their logic of giving billions and tax breaks to oil companies and the 1% wealthiest people.

There is a disgusting AD on this thread, dated Sunday April 22, 2012, 7:41 pm, by SdbreyreB.

When you see such ADs, please be a Good Care2 Citizen and click on "flag as inappropriate" -- it only takes a moment!
Such disgusting ADs are often for PORN sites or for sleazy "dating" sites.
But, even worse than that, they may contain VIRUSES that could really mess up your computer!

Unfortunately, when I clicked on this AD, "flag as inappropriate" -- nothing happened! I understand that Care2 has been experiencing some technical difficulties lately.
Usually, tho, Care2 responds to my click with a statement that the problem is being taken care of.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO TRY TO GET THE ADS OFF OF CARE2. PLEASE INFORM MANAGEMENT OF THE GLITCH. {The other threads where I try to click on the ADs, don't work EITHER -- just starting today! It always worked before now!}

My dad taught me how to bait a hook, how to watch the bobber, and how to reel in the fish. However, to this day, I still have not been able to catch a fish. Seriouly though, there are many reasons a person will find himself/herself homeless. Not just because of drug use. Sometimes, it's mental health issues. A person who has a mental illness and is not on medication, or doesn't reliably take the meds are often homeless. Years ago, I researched the subject of homelessness in the United States for my Bachelor of Science degree. So, I do understand the difficulty in knowing what to do or where to start. There is more to it than "teaching life skills and training."

I have a problem signing anything that is poorly written or has grammatical errors.

In addition, the concept is seriously flawed. There are not enough jobs for all the people who want to work. Adding more people to the workforce will not create more jobs! It will just create more competition for an already too scarce resource. Every homeless person who gets a job will be taking it from someone else.

What we need is more opportunities -- more jobs, more opportunities for people to start a business, or more opportunities for people to start a farm. Then it would make sense to provide the training, when there are opportunities for everyone to make a decent living if they are willing and able to work -- and most people are.

I would advocate a universal employment program, with the government as employer of last resort. Most of these jobs would be minimum wage, encouraging people to seek better jobs in the private sector, but allowing them to have a job if nothing is available in the private sector. If everyone is earning money, we can get rid of most non-productive welfare and the social stigma associated with it. In addition, all these new workers will have money to spend, thus providing a real stimulus to the economy. A strong economy means money is flowing. Tax the rich and corporations to pay for this. (They will get the money back anyway as the people spend it.) There are plenty of jobs that need to be done. Reforestation, infrastructure improvements, cleaning up cities and parks, taking care of children and older people and disabled people, fixing up low income houses and apartments, and I am sure others could add dozens more useful types of work.

''SIGNED''......I agree with teaching the homeless people a work skill. Give them a chance to learn a trade, so they can have a better life and get off the streets. Obama needs to do something to get jobs for the people everywhere. Get the economy back up and running again. It's been way too long. And STOP sending jobs to other countries. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
