you can tell a lot about a person or society by the way it treats the beings it doesn't think it has to treat well
as if its not bad enough to be homeless and with out.. stop religion of anything before it kills us all

and as we united in outrage last december, in solidarity with those forced into the 'rehabilitation camps', so shall we united in outrage now, in solidarity with this couple. the idea of punk has turned mild in the united states, but this proves that outside the 'west', it's still a threat.

I have had the "punk social disease" for 34 years now ... sad that punks are still persecuted after all this time.

As I consider sharia a crime and attempts to enforce it felony assault, I'd have shot those phony enforcers and given the couple free transport out of the area along with free clothing of their choice as we burn the pseudo-Islamic garbage.

Note how "open" this Islamic Sharia society is. The effing "cop" has his face hidden. Some open society that is. Barbarians are what civilized people call people that beat other people for a living, or for just living their lives the way they choose, not the way some religious punk likes. Those are the real punks here, those who would tell other people what to do, when to do it and beat you if you don't agree. At best. They're lucky they still have their appendages, including their heads. Although that could change next week since Sharia law can be amended at any time by any man with a beard who decides he is an imam, there are no other qualifications and he doesn't like what his neighbors are doing and issues a fatwah against them. That is barbaric. And so is this "society".

Sex in Public?

Sunday April 22, 2012, 6:21 pm
Were there any small children watching them while they were having sex? Because if there were, then they did deserve a butt whipping. It would seem, as adults they are supposed to know better.

And do you take offense, Frank, at having little children watch people being caned?

Is watching caning and/or other forms of corporal punishment cool for kids, but sex taboo?
How much healthier is it to show children physical pain being inflicted as punishment on suffering people against their will, as opposed to letting them see people enjoying physical pleasure of their own free will?

I suppose the couple should have found a more private place, but perhaps they didn't expect to be discovered. The punishment seems a bit harsh for not finding a big enough tree to get lost under, or forgetting that the public lighting goes back on at 6 AM.. I don't know the excact circumstances of the sex encounter, so I can only use my imagination.

Whatever children may observe, though, the important thing is for them to be able to talk it over with rational, mentally well-balanced & sensitlve grown-ups, so as to allay any possible anxieties that seeing the events might cause, or any misinterpretations or false conclusions about the proceedings that could interfere with their healthy psychological development, but could easily be smoothed over when & if grown ups don't get all wriled up about 'shameful' 'scandalous' 'beastlike' behaviour & seek only to convey a strict code of 'acceptable' behaviour & impress their sense of rigid morality on them, which will certainly preclude any open talk & fail to focus on what the kids actually feel & possibly fear in such situations. Don't know if kids will have much opportunity to find non-extremist, open-minded people to openly & honestly talk their feelings & reactions over with in a society practising sharia law or any radical religious practice, where, I think, 'think right' tends to dominate & it dominates feelings that end up repressed for lack of someone comforting to take them to & deal with them rationally & openly: if talking about pleasure causes guilt feelings because the adult has a negative, biased view of pleasure, (perhaps because that is part of the religious doctrine) well, it will be very hard to work that guilt or shame or fear out of child's emotional reaction to the scene he's witnessed & help him see it in a non-threatening, non-shameful way.

Only a total idiot would have sex would have sex in public. Try that here and see what it gets you? Arrested, jailed, fined, probably fired from your job for an overt act of obvious stupidity. It seems like they were probably trying to push the envelope a bit and it backfired on them, that is all! Of course, stupidity is not against the law.

sex in public, what, was the woman wearing a burka? you could probably hid 10 circus clowns under that garment. Betya the repubs are taking note of this too...things to come if they stay voted in and become the moral police. But, maybe it would be ok, if the couple wasnt (shock! cringe! blush!) using birth control! Oh the horror of it! all those potential little souls ending up in a latex glove only to be tossed away like some sort of body fluid!

RE: "Only a total idiot would have sex would have sex in public." -

You fail to take into account that the couple is homeless. Do you think they can afford a hotel room?
What are homeless people to do ? Abstain ?

And is caning appropriate, then, & justifiable -in your opinion- simply because people are 'total idiots'?

And sex, or sexual acts, in public is not sanctioned for 'stupidity' -stupidity not being a punishable criminal offense, whatever you might think- but for 'obscenity.'

For Western justice systems, criminalizing sexual acts is not to be based on moral considerations, but the idea of doing harm to society. While it can be, & has been*, argued that degrading and dehumanizing sex and "depictions of degrading and dehumanizing sex do harm society, and in particular, adversely affect attitudes towards women," we are several on this thread who think that a couple engaging in ordinary run-of-the-mill love-making pose no threat to society; nor are they engaging in anything reprehensible that calls for harsh & inhumane punishment.

If, as you argue, it is merely a matter of poor judgement or 'stupidity,' then the punishment seems all the more unjustifiable.

Police & criminal justice personnel would do better to devote their limited means to pursuing & prosecuting violent crime that harm people and put them in danger, instead of concerning themselves with the moral concerns of religions.

If caning were the accepted punishment for stupidity, just think of all those who'd be at risk on C2 comment threads.

People do stupid things all the time, what do you call DWI, or taking illegal drugs and then overdoing, or having sex without using protection and then giving a serious if not fatal STD to someone else. It was the personal choice they made that led to their sad situation. No one is to blame but themselves for having choosing to sex in public. Could they not wait until night, or go to a solitary place?

And what does the American justice system have to do with this? Indonesia is an independent nation whose justice system is not dependent on our opinions. They have their own laws and enforce them any way they wish. This could have ended up much worse, the Taliban would have had both their their heads!

One last thought, I grew up on the streets of several big city ghettos, considered the worst of the worst. During all those years, I have never seen a homeless couple engaged in public sex by night or much less in daytime!
