Oh happy days, the poor girl gets to wait 3 years with this barbaric punishment hanging over her head that will scar her for life.

I hope she can find some way to leave her Country before that time comes alone for her, however I feel it would be highly unlikely as I'm sure her every move is watched.

As John Trudell speaks in this poem See The Woman.......many are still_____________
well listen to his words that I left to Honor Women......that some Countries and Societies still fail to do.
See The Woman

"While the government of the Maldives has said it does not condone the punishment of an abused minor, it has claimed to be unable to intervene in the judicial process."

Well, there is a government unworthy of the name. If the government has no ability to protect its children then what good is it? This a human rights violation and is one of the things that make me wish we did have a global government with a police force capable of protecting children, people, from outrageous and barbaric violations of their basic human rights. This "sentence" rapes her again. Just about as ugly as the religion of "peace" gets when it comes to girls and women's rights. Ick.

The persons responsible for the rape of this 15 year old girl should have been arrested,
given the lashings and sentenced into prison.

Signed. One could become very depressed hearing of more and more of this type of thing in our world. Is it just because of satellite TV and the internet that we hear so much more news of abusive treatment of human beings by other human beings? Or is it actually increasing in this 21st century? Oh how I wish that people could be kind to each other!

No wonder more victims do not come forward.

Punish the rapist and not the victim. Such stupid ways of thinking.

If you are a man would you want your future wife to have gone through this? Or what about your daughter?

Petiton signed. This is disgusting to read how these foreign countries still practice these horrible acts of violence to young women. I agree with Jim 100% that the creep that raped her should be arrested. If them are that sick minded to want to lash, the one who raped her should get it. Thanks Rose

The government of the Maldives is "unable to intervene in the judicial process"? What sort of a government is that?

We can all grumble and complain when our governments do stupid or mean things, but we should be grateful we live where we do, protected by human rights and fair laws - we are so lucky.

We must act with determination and perseverance in order to respect human rights for women in cultures where it is seen as mere objects. Culture change a culture is not easy or simple thing, however is very complex. Despite this we help you create in those places the sanction of laws to protect women. This is happening to this young girl is atrocious, being raped for denouncing the rapist, she is who she is brutally repressed and punished.

This is typical Muslim behaviour. The father may take his daughter and kill her if he believes that she has had sex. It is extremely common for immediate family to rape the girls in there. In other countries such as Pakistan, the Muslims will rape little Christian girls and there is a brothel where may are taken and the parents may not have them back.

The number of times that I have put such stories up and no-one cared, I am glad to see such a response to Rose's petition.
