Excellent ~ thank you for posting ! ~ Yes, shared this. And voted. I hope that people can vote once a day. This is wrong ! I am thinking that this not a true reflection of what the majority of the people feel at all. Foie gras is banned in our state, and thanks to the people. I am just thinking this poll got to his friends and industry first. So here's to hoping the tide will turn ! !

Thanks for sending this my way, Constance. I honestly have never tasted this and have no desire to do so, just knowing how it is made is enough to churn my stomach. Voted! I think the Chef could find a way to make an outstanding veggie burger, should he do so I would be interested in his recipe.

I am with you Kit, I have no desire to taste this inhumane "delicacy". I'd like to shove a tube down this chef's throat and feed him his own liver. Thanks James.

I think some people many have voted incorrectly. How often can we vote? Or if you vote again does that cancel out the original vote? Please advise. Thank you James. If people must eat meat, why can't people just eat normal meat? An animal should have a good life, especially if it is being raised strictly for food for humans. They deserve to be treated like royalty since they are providing sustenance. Thank you for sharing, Constance. I had never even hear of this before. voted NO

Deb don't fool yourself. There is absolutely NO such thing as humanely killing an animal so you can eat it. We don't need to eat animals. Those who do so do it purely out of selfish reasons. Wake up, go Vegan.

Incidentally, voted no, noted and shared.

One time, I met a person who loves to eat Foie Gras and he told me that he knew all about how the geese was raised but for him, he still like eating it. So I told him bluntly that he was eating diseased liver. He told me that I was terrible and just killed his appetite for this.

My doctor told me that my slightly 'fatty' liver could become a serious health risk if I didn't do something about it.
For Foie Gras - not only do people deliberately create an unhealthy liver in these poor creatures, they then eat the damned stuff and say yum!!
Unbelieveably obtuse!!
One day it will come back on them, when their own health starts to fail.

The poll asks: "Should La Toque executive chef Ken Frank be allowed to give free foie gras to his customers?"

In my opinion, only if the consumer agrees to watch a film depicting what a duck or goose has to endure before its liver ends up on his or her plate. Afterward, they won't have much of an appetite for anything...

Voted NO on the issue.

I was surprised to see this article on foie gras is actually being done in my neighborhood
considering the fact foie gras is outlawed in California.

I live right in the area between Cotati (used to live there) where the lawsuit was made, filed by the Cotati-based Animal Legal Defense Fund and Napa in the opposite direction. Sonoma is in the middle of these two towns. I've been to the restaurant with biker friends years ago in a pit stop to pick a passenger.

I'm always surprised to find out about things going on in my own neighborhood via Care2. lol.

There is no way to humanely "force feed" ducks to produce foie gras.

Ty, James & Constance.

Of course a fellow foodie commented on there that their natural migratory feeding makes the liver fatty, so what's the big deal? Brainwashed liar. If that's the case, then it is unclear why they would need to shove massive quantities of feed down their throats instead of just using wild ones. We aren't that stupid. I have heard the stuff is beyond delicious. So is bacon gravy and gummy bears, but I will never touch the stuff again. These gluttonous, selfish morons will convince themselves of anything to absolve themselves of the fact they are supporting blatant torture. It is banned in 10 countries, I believe. Migratory feeding simulation my ass.

Voted No and I was certainly glad to see that the judge refused to dismiss this lawsuit against a celebrated Napa chef who has continued to serve foie gras. Good for this judge! Anyone who would serve a food whose whole existence is based on terrible cruelty to the animals deserves to be put out of business!

A horrible practice!

As a young child, I stopped eating lobster, which I'd loved, as soon as I heard that they were boiled alive, realizing that simply liking a food obtained through such unimaginable cruelty wasn't worth it... sometimes, we need to rethink our priorities, and at least try to avoid encouraging the most disgusting cruelties,

This is just too awful. I hate what these people do and I am so against people who eat this. It is disgusting to put these poor birds through such torture - the people who do this should have the same done to them. I have voted NO and I hope the NO's win, for these abused birds. Mnay thanks James for posting this. Noted, voted and shared.

Biblical law states that foie gras is not to be eaten, but I think we should try to help people understand what they are doing if they eat it and not judge them for eating it. We are able to judge for ourselves what kind of person would do such a horrible thing to an animal, but that is between us and God.

I am so sorry.I cannot get the poll to load for me and I will continue trying for quite awhile. This is something I am so against in this world. We have enough food and the way they torture these poor babies makes me hate (A strong word) . I do hate that people can actively do this and pay for this as part of their meals. I have not gotten to the poll yet but to know people are voting FOR this is twisted!!!!!!!

TY for posting & I will continue for quite awhile to get to the poll.

I am personally being tortured seeing this photo and knowing exactly what is done for this process. So I really can't imagine how bad they hurt. OMG!! I can't stand that I am unable to fix everything in this world. I know the statement is absurd but I would like to go around and kill off every one of these people who do harmm in any fashion.

Of course I voted NO that a chef should not be serving this-- even though I do not know exactly what the law says. I do know that THIS PRACTICE SHOULD BE ILLEGAL EVERYWHERE!!! There is way too much blatant cruelty to animals t6hat should be stopped. It would be great if anytime there is an event serving this stuff, some activists came in with huge pictures to let people know the truth. Cruelty is not a way to celebrate afluence---- doing good for the world is the way to use wealth.

Janice S. (94)
Sunday July 21, 2013, 8:05 am
I understand why we are all so riled up about this issue--- I do find it interesting that all the comments are from people voting NO--- So where are the ones who voted yes? If any are reading this can you tell us WHY?

My other question is what effect if any will this poll have?? Shouldn't there be a pettition instead?

Janice S. (94)
Sunday July 21, 2013, 8:26 am
Ok I now have read many of t6he comments on the news page. It is true that I have not seen any of the "farms" myself but have only seen pictures--- If there are infact humane ways to raise the geese and still creat this "delecacy" then those who are determined to eat it-- should prove their point in court or take action to get the law changed.

*** I am very relieved to see that the yes votes are not coming from care2 members!!!!

At a high class restaurant, I called for the Chef, and asked if he was aware of the cruelty involved in the making of the enlarged livers of ducks and geese, and serving foie gras. He had no idea! He said if I could send him the literature, he would take it off the menu. So PLEASE if you know any restaurant serving foie gras, call the chef, this is another way to stop it!

Voted NO! again. Glad to see the "no's" are still ahead. I hope this is never produced again. What is it with wealthy people and all the weird crap they eat, foie gras, caviar, frogs legs, etc. And in China, ivory is a 'status symbol'??!! And all the stupid 'cures' and 'age fighting' things they gather from the inhumane treatment of animals, rhino's horns, elephant's tusks, bear's bile??! WTF! This has got to END! Why can't the wealthy put their money to good and proper use? They should be donating to animal shelters, food and medical care, etc. And they should be donating to help those less fortunate, people, for their food and health care. They will never spend all the wealth they have in their lifetime. Why can't they get a great feeling from doing good for others instead of all this 'status' CRAP?! What a warped world we live in. Thanks, James and Debbie.
